Who's angry at the skin color? My argument is them sticking to the cartoon version (which this movie is based on) as much as possible. It would've been just as weird if Ariel was a guy obsessing over a woman. Any rational fan would want to see someone who resembles Ariel as much as possible, and this actress doesn't resemble her at all. If it was a cosplay, that's fine, but this is an adaptation of a previous work, so fans expect faithfulness and there's nothing wrong with that.

I was 8 years old when TLM was in theaters. I went to see it, had the VHS, watched it a thousand times, and know all the songs by heart. The only reason I was ever interested in seeing this live action remake was purely for nostalgia. I’m not angry about the casting choice but I won’t bother watching it. It’s now no longer a remake but a reimagining which won’t evoke the same feelings for me.
Also, I’m actually more disappointed in the casting of Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. It’s a missed opportunity to have a drag queen play the part when the character was originally based on Divine.
