He self-deleted before I knew what was happening. At first I thought the site had been hacked in some way. I removed those pin emojis because the first one I tried to open gave me an error message. Invalid characters usually being the cause of that error, I tried the first thing that came to mind.
Now that the smoke has cleared and I recovered from the minor heart attack, I know there is no issue with using a pin emoji in the title. Anyone who had one in their thread title can edit and add it back if they would like to do so.
The red pin should be used occasionally as a tribute to hownos. The board suddenly flooded with them last night was both startling and comical. It was like his version of the iconic dialogue, "...I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!"📌😄

I was thinking more along the lines of a thumb tack being a small prick. It wasn't that funny in hindsight but I had a bad day yesterday and was grumpy myself.

So many people have recently commented on the silliness of his underlying objection to the site allowing another poster to make a pinned thread. I wonder if that annoyed him because he has more posts than everyone yet did not receive that same ability.
Then he starts a form of protest yesterday with the red pin emoji on all his posts. I think Mod5 removed the emojis thinking it was someone hacking posts or a form of vandalism (if I’m reading Mod5’s comments correctly) and Hownos got annoyed at what he perceived as a lack of deference to his years of contributions to the site. He was apparently annoyed first that his seniority did not allow him to pin a thread and then he thinks his protest was being censored by the very site he helped to promote.
Then he makes an exaggerated reading of your innocuous quip and, poof he’s gone. It’s crazy.
It still doesn't mean that I don't feel bad. I try to be kind to everyone, even when we staunchly disagree on topics. It was a little crass of me.
I don't believe that I am the reason he left. I think he's been unhappy here for awhile, as I think he's been a lot more combative as of late. It just sucks that it went down the way it did. I'm sorry that he included tcrum, as I really thought she was chastising me for my comment and defending him.
You are a great contributor and nearly always polite and decent. And I’m someone who often disagrees with you. I feel terrible that Hownos’ parting shot was an attempt to make you feel guilty. That was completely adolescent and out of character for him. He was annoyed about other things for sure.

It’s like the observation I have made on forums. You get the forum member who has made a lot of posts been around for a while or from the start and starts feeling like they are unappreciated or that their efforts should be worth more.

I just mentioned that he probably has something far bigger going in his life and took it out on the forum.
I was thinking more along the lines of whatever was compelling him to make 116,000 posts on a fairly small site to begin with. He probably put a lot of pressure on himself to keep it up, and it has to take its toll on a person when are constantly trying to force more posts than the site warrants. Not everything was quality, he had a lot of birthday posts in there too.
Most people are saying that he should’ve stepped away and left the account for posterity, but if I’m right, the account would’ve been a temptation to go back to doing what he was doing. By deleting it, he may feel relief from that pressure, because now it’s over.
And if anyone thinks he didn’t care, he still bragged about his post count in his goodbye post.
Yeah I made a similar post here too. An observation I have made on internet forums is you get that member who feels they have to keep the whole thing moving and have been a member a long time/have a high post count. Then something happens and they feel unappreciated for their efforts or just feel that what they have been doing is really silly and they have a meltdown.
At least here his threads still exist albeit without the author name. I was a member of one forum where the guy who thought he was special and was also a mod went and deleted all his threads which in turn deleted everyone's posts within them as well as deleting some other things before deleting his own account.
I didn't get the birthday posts either, other than just increasing his post count. There is another thread here about who is the new or "second Dean" of Movie Chat it is again based on post count. Quality over quantity I say.
