Why did Hownos leave?

Goddammit, hownos. You could've prevailed.

I replied on hownos's goodbye thread, and why that thread was deleted, I don't know (it had to have been deleted by a mod). The OP portion was reproduced by Kowalski near the beginning of this thread. I said (to the best of my memory)

I am shocked and saddened. hownos was never the same after he came back from his (10 days? 2 weeks?) break. The pinned thread thing seemed an odd hill to die on, and indeed he did come back. But he wasn't the same...and then the posts with all the red pins, which was tipping his toe into trolling, and we all know that if there is one thing hownos is not is a troll. The "I am officially trademarking the pin" thread was funny, but all the others seemed to be a bit of a temper tantrum. I liked hownos a lot, he was someone I thought I'd like to meet in person.

(back to the present) hownos did not confide in me his reasons; I knew he detested pinned threads, but I really didn't think much of it as pinned threads are a common message board thing, one just learns to look past them.

Well, that's surprising he actually deleted his account. If he happens to read this: sorry to see you go, Mitch.🫶

I didn't know him that well but from reading some of the comments this leaves me with the impression that:

He doesn't think his shit ever stinks.

He can dish it out but not take it.

He is a weak tit over something to do with not being appreciated enough and something to do with a protest of his with red pins and so he used them as a passive/aggressive response.

I dunno.
Seems like someone not to be missed if he had some kind of attitude like that.

I didn't see this until now. I really liked hownos a lot and am so sad he deleted his account. He was several years older than me and we were different in a lot of ways, but I thought he was great at initiating conversations and I enjoyed reading his postings. I used to jokingly give him a hard time about his "short clues" on tcrum's "Lyrics Challenge Game" thread, but it was all in good fun and I always enjoyed his contributions to that (We had similar music tastes).

I hope he reconsiders one day and returns with a new account, but it's his choice/decision and he needs to do what is best for him. He'll be really missed here if he doesn't return.

This is certainly sad and disappointing news. Sometimes this place can get to you. I'm sorry it got to him so much that he felt he had to D & D (Depart & Delete). I haven't been around as much as I used to be so I'm out of the loop on what was going on with him. Sad. Just sad. 😔😥
