There’s nothing wrong with a girl being sexualized as long as it’s in good tastes and she is on board with it.

reply

It's one thing to have the character being sexualized, but it turned to her as well. I mean think of all the interviews that Scarlett did where everyone was asking her about her underwear under the costume. She was not happy with that.

reply

Those were all asked by female journalists. Has nothing to do with sexualization, more the things that other women are interested in. I mean it is women who eat up fashion magazines and are obsessed with diets. I suppose that is somehow the fault of the patriarchy though.

reply

It wasn't just females. That was my point when I said everyone.

reply

Do you really believe a male reporter or even a male could or even dare to ask such questions? So it is not everyone.

reply

Here's one example of a male asking her that exact question

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHxzxgwJTFc

reply

Well, I can't believe he really had the balls to ask that, that was so sleazy and inappropriate. I think it would be different for a woman to ask similar questions.

reply

I think it would be just as sleazy for a woman to ask in the same way.

I think if the interviewer and Scarlett had been gabbing like friends, and it was brought up more like a statement of "that looks like it might have been uncomfortable to wear" and had left it with Scarlett to elaborate, then it might have been acceptable. Other than that, there really is no reason for anyone to ask that question.

reply

A woman asking that is less likely interpreted as sexual, more likely a curiosity and about comfort and welfare of actors, the question is likely phrased differently. A man asking that is just sleaze and perversion, there is no other interpretation.

reply

But was she totally on board with it? Seriously, her character was pretty underdeveloped, she was there to provide eye candy and a sexual interest, and had little dialogue and less action. She came off as tied for the least important member of the team, with Hawkeye, and perhaps Johanssen wasn't totally okay with it but didn't have any better offers at the time.

Perhaps it's a rule or at least a trend, that if there's only one woman on a team of heroes, she's just "the girl" and doesn't get developed much. It's only when you get two women on the team that they start to develop real personalities.

reply

> But was she totally on board with it?

Well, she’s signed on for movie after movie where she’s playing in the same role in variants of the same costume so, whatever her qualms, she must have made her peace with it. I’m sure Disney’s big checks make it easier to bear.

reply

Oh, I'm quite sure that Disney's big checks and a string of massive hits on her CV made it all easier to bear!

But that doesn't mean she was totally happy with how her role turned out, which is pretty common for actors. They all think their roles should have been larger and more interesting, or with fewer shots of their ass.

reply

remember the comments on Steve's ass in Endgame? Imagine all of the insufferable whining we would have to listen to if that had been done with a female character. Johnannson sounds like a narcissistic diva and I have lost respect for her.

reply

The term is "bandwagon". Everyone else is doing it so she is jumping on it as well.

Where are the countless articles of nearly every male hero doing scenes with their shirt off to show their chest?

That is right because men are never ever ever sexualised, it is only woman i forgot that.

Men can never complain about these things because as far as everyone is concerned it only happens to woman and only woman have to deal with it.

If men are not sexualised why are they all ripped?

Look at the witcher show, Henry Cavill is basically sexualised through the while series but no one cares, even he doesn't but it that was a woman their would be a hundred articles decrying it.

Until that is sorted who gives a shit what a multi millionaire actress thinks because she agreed to do scenes showing a bit of her bra and now is complaining about it. Have a backbone and speak up at the time.

reply

If a handsome, rich, famous male actor complained about being sexualized, everyone would immediately think "what an arrogant ungrateful prick". Would Scarlett Johnansson have the carreer she has if she was ugly? Obviously not. She is happy to profit from it when it is to her advantage, and cry victim when she perceives it to be to her advantage. It just shows bad character.

reply

Sounds like every actress once they make it big they cry about getting nude at 20 years old. she took the money. If she wasn't happy, she could have passed on the role or negotiated her contract. Portman ditched thor 3 and now shes back, money talks

reply

Like I said, it's normal for actors to be disappointed in how a role turned out.

reply

SO BECAUSE YOUR JOB GIVES YOU A PAYCHECK YOU MUST BE 100% HAPPY WITH THEIR BUSINESS?

reply

"At First" ???

reply

right?

reply

So stunning, so brave.(eye roll)

reply

^Incel.

reply

^Snowflake meltdown.

reply

You.

reply

why didnt she quit? oh because money...

reply

Why don't you read the article before commenting?

reply

I did, women and some men only complain when their career is established and/or almost over, look at Megan Fox, her career was destroyed by one ill fated comment.

reply

Of course men would never be sexualised, for example Captain America, totally not.

reply

never, like when Superman was brought back to life, all his clothes disappeared except for his pants.

reply

And his skin tight cloth, totally not about objectification of men.

reply

OH...YOU MEAN CAPTAIN AMERICA WHO GOT THREE STAND ALONE FILMS AND SUPERMAN WHO IS THE GOD OF THE DC UNIVERSE?...THOSE GUYS?...YES...THEY ARE IN THE SAME POSITION AS BLACK WIDOW...A SIDE CHARACTER FOR ALMOST 2 DOZEN FILMS.

reply

And that is totally not about making a profit, we all know film industry and business people never cared about profit, they are only in it to promote the power of men.

reply

THE BLACK WIDOW FILM IS LONG,LONG OVERDUE AND WIDOW WAS A SEXUALIZED "PROP" MORE THAN A CHARACTER FOR MANY FILMS.

reply

And that statement is totally without prejudice, nothing to do with the fact both men and women love to watch good looking men doing heroic staff.

Nothing to do with subjective wishful thinking, and it supported by countless clear evidence, so clear nobody can see it other than the people with feminist agenda.

reply

ENJOY WATCHING BUFF DUDES IN YOUR CLOSET.👋🙂

reply

Is that what feminists say when they failed to come out with an argument, making gay insults? Of course that is totally not offensive to LGBT community simply because you are a feminist.

reply

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT...I HAVE A DICK IN MY MOUTH RIGHT NOW!...YOU ARE NO FUN TO COMMUNICATE WITH AT ALL.

reply

What a sore loser.

reply

WHAT WAS LOST?...YOU ARGUED MIGHTILY TO PROVE THAT MEN ARE JUST AS SEXY AS WOMEN...AND YOU WON...I KNEEL IN FRONT OF YOU AND OFFER MY..."LOYALTY".🙂

reply

Naaahhh, he argued that men are sexually exploited for their bodies in Hollywood just like women are, but no one seems to care about that, or feel that it is a problem. You responded by insinuating that he is gay and in the closet, and you clearly used that insinuation as an insult.

Then, when he rightly pointed out that you were making gay insults, you deflected by pretending that you had a dick in your mouth, and therefore couldn't possibly be homophobic.

But I do agree that Black Widow's movie is LONG overdue. She's awesome.

reply

Black Widow was a side character because she is a side character. Haven't heard Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, Ian Mackie, Don Cheadle or Elizabeth Olsen(yet) whining about being lucky enough to "only" have a side character role in the biggest movie franchise on the planet. They always sound extremely grateful.

reply

OF THOSE ONLY RENNER COMPARES TO JOHANNSON IN TERMS OF BEING THERE FROM THE BEGINNING...ORIGINAL AVENGERS MEMBER,ETC...AND HE WAS NEVER SEXUALIZED OR SHOT IN AN ASS A RIFIC MANNER.

reply

Some day Chris Evans will do an interview whining about his butt being called "America's ass" in Endgame.

reply

It is totally not degrading since he is a man. He should take it as a compliment, and that is absolutely not sexist.

reply

Or Thor, or Spider-Man, or Star Lord, or Wolverine, or every other male superhero that has an obligatory shirtless scene. Let’s not forget many of them also wear tight outfits.

Men are sexualized too, they just don’t bitch about it as much. God forbid them when they do though, like that time Kit Harrington brought it up.

reply

Or Thor, or Spider-Man, or Star Lord, or Wolverine

ALL STARRED IN THEIR OWN FILMS AND SEQUELS...ALL HAD A TON TO DO OTHER THAN LOOK "SEXY".

reply

Doesn’t matter that they had their own movies, they were still sexualized.

Black Widow may not have had her own movie until later, but she still appeared in a lot of movies, and she grew and developed with each one.
While it’s nice that she’s finally getting her own movie, not every single character needs to have one. Sometimes it’s fine if they’re just secondary characters, and it’s fine if they give fan service for men and women.

reply

I DON'T DISAGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT YOU SAY...BLACK WIDOW WAS AN ASS AND TITS WITH A NAME MORE OFTEN THAN ANY OTHER CHARACTER BY FAR.

reply

I don't really agree with this. Aside from Iron Man 2, which was more just an intro to the character than anything, Black Widow was given a lot of depth and character development. Aside from that, her looks and sexuality were never much of a focus unles she was using it to manipulate, which..come on, she's a spy. That's what a spy does Male characters could be just as sexualized but that's part of popcorn comic book movies. We know what we're getting into.

Some characters, like Black Widow and Hawkeye, were never meant to be more than secondary characters. Just because Black Widow is a woman doesn't make an issue of misogyny. Not every single character in the MCU needs a stand alone movie, nor were they to have one. The Black Widow film could be fun but it was clearly is nothing more than fan service in order to satisy the base. That doesn't mean it shouldn't have been made but more often than not I do find myself thinking...what's the point? Why give an origin story to a character that is dead and that we'll never see again?

reply

And he has to apologize afterwards, for saying there is sexism against men as well in film industry.

How could he have said that? There is clearly never and never will be sexism against men. We all know all women are totally without prejudice.

reply

SARCASM ON THE INTERNET?...WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO WITH THE REST OF YOUR SUMMER VACATION?🙂

reply

BW character sucks , at least the MCU version

reply

By whom? tbh I've never heard anyone claim that about Black Widow. I mean Scarlett is decent looking (I've never found her that attractive at all for some reason. She was innocent and fresh looking in Lost In Translation but she never was the "it" for me or anything appealing about her that way).

And if so, why didn't she quit?

These are all the modern double standard society. This thing irks me to no end. Women want more than equality and nothing is enough.

I don't think Scarlett should be making such ridiculous statements

reply

How about read the article before spewing shit?

reply

How about you stop spewing shit. Ironman has been defined as billionaire, philanthropist and playboy. Wouldn't that playboy moniker be sexist as well then? Shouldn't RDJ then complain that women and others call him that? But he doesn't. You know why? Because he is not being a douche. It's a fictional char and that's how he behaves. He objectifies all including Natasha Romanoff who later turns out to be Black Widow and his teammate and he doesn't repeat that.

But I don't understand what is so uber wrong about a guy expressing a desire for women when that is his character and how it was written.

Stop being a little flake. As a liberal Democrat, these sort of statements are irritating and takes away real issues.

reply

>Wouldn't that playboy moniker be sexist as well then? Shouldn't RDJ then complain that women and others call him that?

Did you seriously type this shit? Like, unironically.

reply

Scarlett complains a make believe char i.e. Black Widow was objectified by another make believe char i.e. IronMan.

Don't you see how stupid this is? That is how the comics were written. If she doesn't like it, don't act in those movies. Else she's a hypocrite.

And then they call Tony Stark a playboy and womanizer (which he is written as) in a totally negative connotation and call him egotistical.

I just don't get this whole pointless comment and line of thinking and thread. It is an utter waste of my time.

reply

Oh, so we can't criticize fiction now?

> they call Tony Stark a playboy and womanizer (which he is written as) in a totally negative connotation

I didn't know those could be compliments or positive traits to praise.

reply

That's the source material. That's how it is. Scarlett criticizing that is as stupid as saying Darth Vader was a genocidal maniac who also killed a bunch of children like that Sandy Hook killer

reply

Again, just because something's written one way, it can't be criticized. Wtf is that logic?

Dumb comparison, btw. Tony Stark is grounded in reality.

reply

SOMEONE DOESN'T HAVE ANY DAUGHTERS OR SISTERS.🙄

reply

? What an idiotic comment.

reply

NO...NOT AT ALL.🙂

reply

It's the first time you read his comments?

The first hint: he writes only in caps ...

reply

Oh, like Thor? Cpt USA? And a lot of other men?

If she wasn't onboard then she should have left.

It's like the prostitute would scream "rape" after charging you for the act ...

reply

Another idiot reacting to a headline. Typical.

reply

The same idiot replying to facts with bullshit.

You don't want people replying to headlines? Come with better headlines. Don't say something STUPID and then argue "but you didn't read the article which says something different".

But we can get her own words, if the headline is too much for you: "Johansson added, “All of that is related to that move away from the kind of hyper-sexualization of this character and, I mean, you look back at ‘Iron Man 2’ and while it was really fun and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualized, you know? Really talked about like she’s a piece of something, like a possession or a thing or whatever — like a piece of ass, really. And Tony even refers to her as something like that at one point. What does he say?”

Again: don't want to be sold like a piece of ass? DON'T FUCKING SELL YOURSELF LIKE A PIECE OF ASS. It's that easy, it's not like she was forced or coerced to play that part ...

reply

NOTHING YOU SAID WAS FACT.

reply

I only deal with facts, and you know this very well :D :D :D

reply

UM...SURE,CHAMP.

reply

You still missed the part where she talks why she was okay with it, dumbass

reply

NO dumbass, she cannot say she's ok with it and then complain about it ...

you're either ok with it or you're not. If you're ok than don't complain, don't even mention it.

But yeah, media is at a point when exaggerates everything as well, so even if she is ok with it now media will make a big deal of her "sexualization". But I know that you don't mind that either.

reply

You know people can change their mind as they become older, right?

I hope in the future you're not the immature asshole you were in high school

reply

WOW...JUST WOW.
