At this poing I'm watching because...

… I can't look away from a trainwreck.

Seriously, I have never seen a show go so badly off the rails at this point! Each episode is worst than the last, everyone is being written as out of character or just plain stupid, it's not fun to watch but I can't look away.

At this rate, episode 5 might be a 70/100 for apparently showing a battle in the daytime and the final episode a 10/100, especially if that spoiler I read is true. Time will tell, and I’m here to get to the end.

reply

I'm just watching because after all this time I want to know who ends up on the stupid throne, and god knows George Martin is going to go tits up before he ever finishes the books.

reply

I give the show's writers credit for getting much further into the story than GRRM, before fucking it all up.

GRRM did it back when Danerys was still in Mereen, and gave up, at least the show's writers are actually getting to the end!

reply

yea I had a friend die in his early thirties around 2011 and this new show game of thrones came out and it was popular, and now ive heard of GRRM and it is all lining up to be this epic show,

so it's personal, i want to see the ending

Hey, this is a truly awesome and extremely intelligent takedown video! Proof that "The Long Night" was the worst, most nonsensical episode in the show's history!

"Game of Thrones: An Unbridled Rage", on youtube.

From the characters' point of view they were doing the best they could do to fight the White Walker army. If they had exploited their resources more wisely perhaps fewer people would have died yet the narrative played out differently. In all cases the threat of the White Walkers was a huge one - even Jon made that clear when he said they were basically unstoppable and overwhelming in numbers which they were required to deal with.

reply

That 37-minute video is an outstanding analysis that explains the idiocy of "The Long Night" episode 3. The writers of the episode are complete morons, who should never be allowed to write another script for anything.

reply

There are plenty of shows that have worse final seasons.

Stop exaggerating.

reply

Oh, I'm sure there are, but I haven't watched them! I'm usually very quick to give up on a show if disappointed, but this one was SO good for SO long that well, it took me a while to realize things were falling apart.

And now there's only two episodes to go. I suppose I have to see how the story ends, and maybe some day I'll understand what they were trying to do with the last season. And failing to do.

reply

I think the reason why we are so critical is precisely because it was such a great show at one point. I hold it to a higher standard.

reply

Nope. Cant say there are. The Sopranos has always been my benchmark for sheer garbage finales but I can honestly say that at least the rest of the season was on par with the rest of the shows quality. What we have here instead, is one tumble down the cliff, after hitting rock after rock after rock. This is by far the biggest sack of shit for a final season in the history of TV.

reply

Explain to me how these four episodes of a season that hasn’t even finished yet is worse than the final seasons of Dexter, True Blood, Alias, The X-Files, Boardwalk Empire, Seinfeld, etc, etc.

Try not to exaggerate.

I’ll wait.

reply

What do you expect ke to say that hasn't happened in the show?

They prematurely killed off their main antagonist rendering their purpose irrelevant.

The night king is impervious to dragon fire, but somehow still weak against valerian steel? You realize the properties that make v steel so potent against the white walkers is that they were forged with dragon fire right? Try to defend such a monumental fuck up. It's like they didnt even care about their own canon

Then Arya barely makes it past a mob of wights, but effortlessly comes flying out of nowhere past an army of white walkers? That were SURROUNDED AROUND BRAN?!! WHAT?!

And why was it even Arya to begin with? They set up the showdown with JON and the NK, not Arya. This makes no formulaic sense. This is a mess.

And then the battle plans. Holy fuck. Who came up with this shit? My 5 yearold nephew is more tactical than this.

But none of it matters because we couldn't see shit anyway. And when people complained they got told it was their TVs that were the problem. Oh right, so everyone could watch all the other episodes no problem, but everyone's TV decided to crap out on this one. Makes sense.

Then Dany, when she isnt gulping down her latte from Starbucks of course, leads a frontal assault on the ironborn and loses a dragon with three harpoons. When she has the opprtunity to purge them of fire from the back, she decides not to chance it, even though she knows that ballista can only go so far before stopping their projection.

And when Jon says goodbye to his dog...oh wait, he doesnt. And when people complained about it, the production manager said there wasnt any budget to make a cgi wolf andjon snow together. I'm sorry but what?!

How does this culminate out of one of the most beloved franchises in the world?

None of this shit happened on your other shows. True Blood and Dexter were always shit. Boardwalk Empire was good to the end despite Michael Pitts demise. Everyrhing came full circle toward the end.

True Blood started off great, then devolved into fan service and got even worse when Alan Ball left the show.

Dexter fluctuated between seasons but had a notoriously bad final season under showrunner Scott Buck.

Boardwalk Empire was cancelled, necessitating a time jump for its final season that had main characters die off-screen. The story also changed from being based on some real historical figures to a work of pure fiction.

It seems like you just can’t tell the difference between good and bad TV.

reply

Oh really? I'm not the one calling True Blood and and Dexter good tv. If the irony was any sweeter I'd have to start taking insulin.

No. Dexter and True blood were always bad. Even from the beginning. Just because you liked them, doesnt mean they were good, it means you have low standards.

And given that boardwalk was cancelled, they did a banging job putting the rest of the story to bed as best as they could. Tell me how a show that was cancelled held it together better than a show that wasnt. Game of thrones didnt even get cancelled and it still feels like a trainwreck. How the fuck does this even happen?

reply

They were well-reviewed by critics and drew big audiences, which is why they ran for so long on Showtime and HBO. You can find that out with a simple Google search.

Your opinion is in the minority.

Boardwalk Empire literally had to skip an entire season of planned material in order to rush out a conclusion after HBO announced its cancellation.

If you’re happy with that kind of messy, unsatisfying storytelling, it means you have low standards ... in which case, I’m not sure why you’re complaining about Game of Thrones.

LOL

reply

You know what else drew big audiences? Twilight. You know what else drew bug audiences? Transformers. If you gauge the quality if anything depending on how many people watch it then you truly are oblivious to any standard of quality. That's not how this works. Stop it.

And Boarswalk Wmpire wasnt perfect, but the writers tried as hard as they could to finish the series off with what they had to work with. That's why I appreciate it. And heres what's nuts, boardwalk, for all its faults, felt more congruent with the rest of the series, than season 8 of got does. That's how cataclysmic of a fuck up this is.

reply

Twilight and Transformers weren’t well-received by critics. I’m not sure why you used those examples since they don’t address my point...

So, Boardwalk Empire gets a pass because you felt that the writers were “trying”?

LOL

reply

Yeah. It does. Is that wierd or something? Crediting writers for trying to bookend a series as best they can instead of rushing it so they can work on star wars?

reply

The final season of Seinfeld was great (it was the final episode that was bad)... And the final season of LOST is way worse than anything on GOT... I agree that GOT have lost some magic but that already happened last season...

Is it as bad as you say... not in my opinion... Even though I can still not get over the stupid plan in 'Beyond the Wall' my god the idea to catch a wight was so stupid...

reply

BSG comes to mind. So disappointed with that last season, especially the last four episodes. I had just read a scifi novel called 'Spin' and I had my fingers crossed that they would do something similar to explain the cylon God (in the book there was an unseen omnipotent intelligence that guided sentient races once they reached a certain level of technology)

reply

Pretty much accurate...

It just gets worse episode by episode, but its going down in such a spectacular fashion that the destruction will be fascinating to watch

reply

Its not as bad as the Walking Dead, but when you watch a show for a decade you have to commit to it to the bitter end.

reply

Yeah, The Walking Dead hasn't been right in a long time. They need to just end that show.

reply

The Walking Dead was growing tired after the 1st season and we're on 10 seasons of that. Game of Thrones has given us 7 excellent - very good seasons, and while this latest season has been good rather than very good, it's still better than anything from The Walking Dead in a long time.

reply

WTD was great up until the 6th season. 7+8 were bad, this past season was better, but the first 5ish season where can't miss TV IMO. Game of Thrones has been great up until this season, which has been okay, hence why I said its not as bad as TWD.

reply

I got bored of TWD after season 3. They just kept going round in circles with the plot. There was only so much of 'group of survivors finds and joins other group of survivors and apparent safe haven, who turn out to be or have bad guys among them, and people get killed, and then becomes 1 group of survivors looking for another group of survivors, all over again'.

reply

Yeah that show's driving me a bit crazy with its circular storyline.

reply

I'm watching to see who survives..
I never gave a crap about the Iron Throne. No one that has ever sat on it was worth caring about.

reply

It is obvious that Danaeris, Cercei and Varis die. Probably Jamie too. Then again I am expecting my predictions to be subverted so who (cares) knows.

reply

Same. And we've already wasted 8 years, so what's 2 more weeks? May as well just finish it.
