Is this guy as famous as Michael Jordan?

I don't think so

reply

This guy doesn't even compare with MJ's dingleberries..

reply

Nobody in sports is or has been as famous as Jordan in the 90's this guy was the most popular athlete in the world he was a real phenomenon

Basketball become popular in big part of the world because of him

reply

The only reason I know anything at all about basketball is because of Micheal Jordan.

In England basically everyone wore Chicago Bulls gear.

In comparison Lebron James is non existent here.

reply

Good post.

What about Gretzky? Close to MJ or miles behind?

reply

Gretzky isn't close - when he peaked hockey wasn't as popular as it is now. In fact, I'd say he brought it to the worldwide stage when he was traded to L.A. In the 90s the NHL expanded but it was too late and Wayne was winding down. The NBA was on network TV, cable, etc. I don't think the NHL reached that until the mid-90s.

Jordan had that massive Nike endorsement deal too. Air Jordans were huge.

I might argue that Gretzky dominated more than MJ, though.

reply

So kungfulord never heard of Muhamed Ali.

reply

Mohamed Ali was way before my time but fair enough maybe the athlete most popular in story is debatable but definitly after him there has hasn't been an athelete equally popular e influential

Thank you for your reply. Michael Jordan was certainly tremendously famous and liked, but basketball is not a cross-cultural sport. Violent physical combat is. If sport truly matters to you, you will enjoy learning about its history. For example, it’s very possible that an English medical student named Roger Bannister was, in his time, the most famous athlete on Earth. He ran the first sub-4 minute mile in history, in 1954. The achievement got as much media attention as the Moon Landing years later, because the feat was supposed to be impossible.

Muhamed Ali was a fascinating individual and way more interesting as a person than Jordan most of what i know about him is for the Will Smith biopic but i have saw some videos in Youtube is incredible a men so big was so fast his streng, his resistance, his velocity, he was super human for sure. For some reason im more atracted to Mike Tyson as a fighter (even when im not a boxing fan) beside is talent as a boxer Tyson also have his name in popular cultural sometimes for bad reasons but i think he was the last boxing super star i dont think since him have been a boxer who generate so much media interest

You have right about Basketball is not a sport that cross frontier but in the 90's it was and Jordan was the main reason also the dream team that was pure basketball magic i remember as a kid been fascinated by that team and watch every game with them, they just masacred my country LOL but still was an unique experience i dont think ever have existed a team in any sport as perfect and so relevant in popular culture like the USA basketball team in the Barcelona olympic games the world was just crazy about them

Thank for the story of Bannister i never have hear of him before very interesting and thanks for the polite response is cool when you can have a civilized conversation in the Internet

reply

He wish

reply

No. But I don't think any athlete is as popular as Jordan. I think it was a mistake for Lebron to take this on.

reply

i do as well

i mean really who was asking for a space jam sequel?

the original kind of made sense because as op stated jordan was massively popular. I was living in japan during his reign in the 90's and even people over there knew michael jordan very well. not to mention there were the like mike commercials so again it kind of made sense making a michael jordan and looney tunes movie, but the og isn't a masterpieve even though i appreciate it being apart of my teen years.

in my opinion roger rabbit wil always be the best live action/animation crossover film.

reply

Lebron's politics could have an affect on this movie. I'm very surprised his jersey is still the top seller. Jordan was smarter and quieter off the court. Wasn't controversial.

reply

Being Silent and on the Side Lines isn't Comforting these days.

I'm a life-long Sports Fan and I get pissed when players ignore social issues and gloss them over
They have a Platform and should Take On problems in society, not shrug their shoulders and be insulated from their Sisters and Brothers.

reply

I think a good question to ask who is more famous between the two would be: who is more likely to be known by an old person in Europe?

reply

Not even a little bit. Which sure makes him mad. If you don't follow basketball, you probably don't know who he is. I'm guessing that's gonna stay the case even after this movie. I don't think he's even Charles Barkley famous.

reply

LMAO...THAT'S STUPID.

reply

Not nearly as popular as Jordan, but almost as good.
By the time LeBron retires he's going to own the NBA record book, since he played a lot more games than Jordan (no 3 years of college, no 2 years spent playing minor league baseball).

Standings right now (and LeBron will play a few more years):
Points scored: Lebron 3rd (MJ 5th)
Triple doubles: LBJ 5th (MJ 18th)
Minutes played: LBJ 6th (MJ 29th)
Assists: LBJ 8th (MJ 47th)
Steals: LBJ 13th (MJ 3rd)
Games played: LBJ 19th (MJ 92nd)
Rebounds: LBJ 42nd (MJ 131st)
Blocks: LBJ 105th (MJ 121st)

reply

He plays in a soft era of basketball. Those stats mean nothing. Jordan will always be the best no matter what numbers you throw out there. More importantly, LeBron's a crybaby and he lectures people about being woke instead of just playing basketball. He's gonna be remembered for that shit over his skills and stats. Look at any diva athlete nowadays and tell me I'm wrong.

reply

He is a douchebag, can't stand Lebron.
