The theory is spreading!! (SPOILER)

See for yourself.

Looks like I might be right!

Really intersting. Both Johnson and Disney executives involved in this need to be immediately fired. Unfortunately the damage is done unless we get a re-do of E8. I'm sure Hamill would do it, but this will never happen. I hope Johnson never directs again and I will not be watching any future movie he's involved in.

reply

VIII? TFA started all this nonsense. This whole trilogy is a big, fat failure! JJ is still a hack

I concur

Made it clickable because...people NEED to see Hamills face after the premier!!! I'm sure that is exactly what I and millions of other Star Wars fans looked like after viewing TLJ! Now I ask you this...if Mark Hamill can be upset by Lukes death...why can't we?

GREAT THREAD!!!

reply

He looked like he was about to tear of Johnson's head LOL.

reply

Right? I've been on the receiving end and the one dishing it out...and that look at the end is..." You motherless cunt!"

reply

I thought the same. One thing is clear Rian Johnson is not a decent or honest person, even by Hollywood standard, not just him, everyone at the top of this project is no different. Now these awful people have control of star wars franchise, making trademark Disney teen movies. Then again we shouldn't be surprised, it is a Disney movie after all.

reply

he has more to be upset about as it means he won't get hired for the next 6 movies... that's the look of millions of dollars forgone... not the look of fanatical moviegoers upset that a movie didn't telepathically match their preconceived notions...

it's a subtle difference 😉

Or maybe he was just "acting" sad as a PR stunt... Probably not, as he's not that good an actor 😁

reply

He's not upset there. He's out of breath. My guess is COPD. He was out of breath on Ellen as well and he has had hand tremors for the last few years...

Honestly, I understand why they had to off Luke. The new crop of Jedi/Sith are weak. Rey's never had formal training and she beat Kylo Ren. Luke would easily take him apart if he was still around, which creates a big fat plot hole if you're trying to create any tension between the good guys and the bad guys.

reply

That's why you have Luke go up against Snoke...and you know...don't kill Snoke either...it's not rocket science it's the plot to a pop corn vehicle...

reply

So what? He agreed to make the film anyway, and participated in how many years of filming and production work?

reply

The premise of he video was that he did not know of his characters fate until the premier...that due to some of his less than shining comments, last minute changes in the final cut were made, eradicating him from the rest of the series. Obviously no one outside the loop would know, but one thing is certain...Hamill looks like Rain gave him a bad touch during the screening LOL!

reply

What's atrocious was the lame ending battle they had where Luke hardly did anything but portray the same method nostalgia when Vader struck Obi-wan down. Instead of being struck down, he just evaporated... -_-

reply

yikes, just saw the video and mark looks devastated.

reply

Unfortunately, you are wrong.

Interview with Hamill -

Johnson said that he collaborated with Lucasfilm on Luke’s fate to make sure his death made sense for the franchise. The goal for bringing Luke’s character arc to an end was to “push the audience and thus the character.”

“Well, I’m still in denial,” Hamill joked about the fact he’s no longer alive in the “Star Wars” universe. “I just think he transported somewhere else…The first thing I said [to Rian] was, ‘Can’t you wait and do this in Episode IX?'”

Notice 'the first thing I said to Rian' bit? He said that when he was told Luke would die in this chapter - either during the shooting or the script reveal.

In other words, the theory of Hamill not knowing crap before seeing the final cut is a troll job.

reply

Yeah, I highly doubt Disney and Kennedy would just allow Johnson to kill off Luke without anyone knowing or planning for it. Luke was meant to die in this episode and he did.

reply

I wonder if Mark might be right. Part of me hopes that might be why the novelization isn't available until March this time. It will reveal Luke is still alive!

Wishful thinking, but it would be cool.

reply

Thank you for posting the IndieWire article.

But, Mark looks absolutely shell shocked! Very sad. Something must have gotten to him between before seeing the movie and after seeing the movie.

Hamill does have to play ball with Disney, though. His going to the official conventions, etc. depends on it. And he, I am guessing, understands his previous public reactions did not go over well. So, it could be that he has simply had to process what happened to Luke over the past few days.

Luke's death could easily have been done in post, with zero involvement from Hamill. Mark could have understandably thought that Luke watched the twin sunsets and was still perfectly alive, and that was his last scene in XIII.

Especially if that is the case, I really hope that Luke can come back in IX in a way that goes beyond the conventional Force Ghost way, where he can interact physically with the world and be a true part of the story.

reply

He's just acting shocked. Theres no way he won't have known he was going to die.

reply

Why would he be "acting shocked" just sitting there doing an interview with Johnson? What would be the point of that?

reply

Chocked can come from simple

.... by how boring it felt, perhaps?

.... by how random some of the stuff in it felt, perhaps?

... by how wrong... flat out wrong... Luke after all came out to be, perhaps? One thing is reading it on pages, another is to see it all cut nicely together...

reply

Because hes an "actor" and playing up to the cameras. Shocking, but true.

reply

Why? For what reason? His disposition is completely different (to put it mildly) in that after-the-premiere interview.

reply

Wheres the context? Thats a 20 second clip with a voice over telling you what to think is going on. Perhaps hes playing up to the fact the he was killed off, or perhaps he really is pissed off. If he was pissed off, why? Its not like force ghost luke wont be turning up in episode 9. Its not like the character didnt get the send off he would have wanted dying a hero, while giving birth to new hope in the galaxy.

IF he didnt know, you think he doesnt have a better poker face than that? You think all those reporters wouldnt have told rian to stfu and bombard mark with questions for the "big scoop"? Show me mark walking out of the theatre and after the interview.Which is a point, where is the rest of the interview? Surely someone asked mark what he thought or why he looked like that?

reply

Oh with Star Wars? Might want to google David prowse to find out what can happen behind someone's back in Star Wars...hell Google cast of empire no clue big reveal...

reply

Maybe the person in the seat next to Mark farted during the entire movie. That would ruin any movie experience.
