Fuck South Africa

A family friend on holiday has just been robbed and beaten up there. This has been happenening way too often to Western tourists. The country has turned into an absolute shithole these past 30 years.πŸ–•πŸ–•πŸ–•

reply

While we're at it, fuck whatever planet Kowalski is from.

reply

It should be blown up like the Death Star.

reply

Your friend is lucky to be alive. Life is cheap over there and nobody cares 🀬

reply

I have no clue why she went, she even knew someone who got shot and killed over there. Just visit a safari park in Europe.

reply

That's what I was thinking:

South Africa sounds like a shit hole honestly, can't see why anyone would want to go there.

reply

Also adding to the trauma is that she had to fly back via Dubai right in the middle of the heavy rainstorm and the crew were going crazy screaming that the plane was going to crash.

reply

☹️

reply

YIKES IS THE ONLY WORD FOR THAT TRIP.🫀

reply

That’s even scarier than being mugged!

reply

That’s what I was thinking also!

reply

I really dislike flying. I love movies and shows about aircraft but man, I don’t like it when I’m up there!

reply

They dont want you up there!

reply

You've been?

reply

I have many friends that have been - they all have bad stories to tell.

reply

I WATCH A YOUTUBE CHANNEL WITH A GUY THAT IS ORIGINALLY FROM SOUTH AFRICA...HE HAS FOND MEMORIES OF GROWING UP THERE AND SAYS THERE IS STILL A LOT OF GOOD THERE...BUT OFTEN MENTIONS HOW DANGEROUS IT IS AND THE DANGER LEVEL IS WHY HE NEVER
GOES BACK AT ALL.

reply

That guy who sounds like a CIA agent who's always ragging on China and tells you to stay awesome?

reply

LMAO...NO...I ONLY SUBSCRIBE TO CHANNELS FOCUSED ON MOVIES,COLLECTING AND RESELLING.

reply

Why lie man?

I know you subscribe to samoanjoes' channel about toenail maintenance.

reply

THAT CHANNEL SERVES A PURPOSE...WHENEVER I FINISH EATING...I IMMEDIATELY FLIP ON A VIDEO AND VOMIT ALL OVER MYSELF...YOU SHOULD SEE HOW MY BIKINI FITS.

reply

Would South Africa be a better place if whites still ran the joint? Serious question though of course I oppose colonialism and support majority rule. But lets get real, why did it turn into a shithole? Teh blacks?

reply

It bears consideration, as I have read increasingly disturbing stories about how things have deteriorated there since the end of apartheid.......

But delving into that aspect could turn political, which is verboten here in GD, so I won't go there.

Just saying......

reply

Haha. Isn't "Fuck South Africa" political to begin with?

reply

Massive corruption in government. 32% unemployment rate. 40% for youths. High rates of poverty and inequality.

I speak about this coming from a country that has a very similar situation with our indigenous peoples. I really hope that the situation is improving here, but the effects of generational trauma don't disappear overnight. I think it will take a while for South Africa to find a way to make it work.

reply

32% unemployment?!
Wow. The US topped out at about 25% during the Great Depression and we were a shambles.

reply

I think they have the highest unemployment in the world.

reply

A recipe for disaster. 'Idle hands...'and all of that.

reply

The country is fucked.

reply

However, if the Europeans had never conquered South Africa, and it didn't have a legacy of apartheid, it might not be such a mess now.

So maybe I should reconsider my snide comment about "teh blacks". The cause of the problem may really be "teh whites".

reply

Are you aware when there were White farmers everyone was fed. After the Black South Africans either murdered or ran off the White farmers crime skyrocketed because the Blacks didn’t know how to farm. People began going hungry. When hunger starts crime increases especially when the warlords take over. South Africa is a lost cess pool. Some people aren’t meant to rule which includes people of all races. Do you know of any prosperous country run by warlords?

reply

I think that the point is that before the white farmers came, people had existed there for 1000s of years and were able to feed themselves.

I do agree that warlords aren't meant to rule.

I don't think that Jacob Zuma was a warlord though. I do think he was corrupt as hell. I do hope that he doesn't win the next election as in my opinion the country will just get worse. Not that I think that Ramaphosa is doing much better.

reply

”I think that the point is that before the white farmers came, people had existed there for 1000s of years and were able to feed themselves.”

True, but as usual when the White man wanted something he would take it by any means necessary. Look what the White man did to our American Indian. As I grew older I became wiser. It was horrific what they did to them. But, back to South Africa. White man took the land from the natives thereby having a cash cow for each. Decades went by resulting in the Black man losing the skill to farm leading to hunger.

All over the world there are warlords stepping in to take power. This gives rise to tyrants. They kidnap young girls for pleasure and they take young boys to be trained to murder. They abscond with the relief supplies…leaving the populace going hungry. This is how they are controlled which leads to more soldiers.

reply

Are you aware when there were White farmers everyone was fed
I appreciate not starving is a priority, but in prison everyone is fed

reply

Please explain further. πŸ€”

Let's just say I'm not going to act like the transition into a democratic and equal society has been a succes.

reply

Yes, the REAL Mandela effect...

reply

”…Let's just say I'm not going to act like the transition into a democratic and equal society has been a succes.”

It hasn’t. Democracy is a β€œMajority Rule”. Christ was executed due to majority rule…hence a democracy.

When our Jamestown was being settled it was set up for all to be rewarded the same. They would all farm then share equally. Trouble occurred when some of them became lax and let others do the farming. After a while the ones who continued to farm couldn’t produce enough to feed everyone, thus it was the beginning of β€œThe Starving Time.”

This in essence is the U.S. Everyone gets a piece of the β€œpie” whether you earned it or not. Losers partake of the rewards which at one time only went to the winners. No longer is there an incentive to do better. Several years ago a Florida school gave a reward of pizzas to those who worked hard to achieve the goal of a better grade. Then came the hue and cry from the parents of the losers. β€œIt’s not fair!!” The rewards had to be for all or not to have any rewards. I’m unable to recall the decision.

This is what’s known as β€œThe Dumbing Down of America”.

reply

Yes and yes πŸ˜”

"Would South Africa be a better place if whites still ran the joint?"

No, the majority of citizens were poor under white rule, also. The system was set-up that way. In order to improve the country, the system needs to be completely dismantled.

If I gave you substandard housing, education, healthcare, etc. then said now the president is black instead of white, your life won't change if you still have substandard housing, education, etc..

"The social architecture formed over more than three centuries of White rule has maintained South Africa’s position as the world’s most unequal society, according to the Thomas Piketty-backed World Inequality Lab.

Attempts by the now-democratic government to wipe away the legacy of apartheid and colonialism have failed to narrow the imbalance between rich and poor, with 3,500 adults owning more than the poorest 32 million people in the country of 60 million.

During colonialism and structured apartheid from the late 1940s, Black South Africans were largely denied economic opportunities. More than a quarter century of democratic rule has seen the growth of a Black middle class and a Black business and political elite. Yet, most South Africans still suffer from a woeful education system that leaves them ill prepared for jobs, while townships, built for Blacks during apartheid, leave them far away from workplaces."
https://time.com/6087699/south-africa-wealth-gap-unchanged-since-apartheid/

"Crime, poverty, and inequality remain widespread, with about 40% of the total population being unemployed as of 2021, while some 60% of the population lived below the poverty line and a quarter lived below $2.15 a day. South Africa is considered to be one of, if not the most, unequal countries in the world."

Why is anyone making less than $2.15 each day???? Why are 40% unemployed? Why can't housing be built closer to jobs? Who are these rich 3,500 adults? Do they pay taxes? Are they beneficiaries of the apartheid system? If so, should they keep what was taken through because apartheid?

reply

Well it's a shame because they have some of the most outstanding tribal cultures in sub-Saharan Africa. Like the Zulus for example. But the Zulus were criticized by Mandela and the left for allying with the whites.

However in terms of crime and standard of living, are they worse than countries like Nigeria and Kenya?

For Whites-only town Orania:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iB7cF3J72BQ

These racists should return to the Netherlands where they would happier rather than live in a black country with people whom they despise.

reply

I used to debate South Africa with my black roommate in college. The Bantu peoples came from the north at the same time the Boers colonized the coast. They really have as much right to be there as most the blacks. The true indigenous people of South Africa are the San or Bushmen. Neither Bantu nor Boer will return the land to them. It's not even discussed. Lol.

It's not reasonable to expect whites who have lived there for 500 years to leave. Damn, they have more claim to the land than the Ashkenazi do to Israel!

So one little racist town. Big deal. Apartheid has been abolished and most South Africans live in close proximity to the Bantu.

reply

ROTFLMAO! 🀣

reply

Meh, be realistic. 3 million Boers who have lived in South Africa for 500 years are not going back to The Netherlands.

reply

Unlikely that the Netherlands would want the hateful racists to return.

BTW, your ignorance about history is a hoot.

reply

Says the one who thinks the Boers can realistically return to The Netherlands.

Apartheid is over. They have to learn to live together. Your solution is farcical.

reply

Hateful racists don't want to live together which is why they segregated themselves in their for whites-only enclaves.

Maybe if they beg, the Netherlands will take them back.

reply

You gave the example of one tiny town in the hinterlands. The Boers can't be any more racist than white American southerners in the 1960's. People adjust.

reply

My initial comment stated nothing changed since the racist system remains intact. Of course, the hateful racists live in segregated enclaves

https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2019/oct/21/why-are-south-african-cities-still-segregated-after-apartheid

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NVH7JewfgJg

At least South Africa lead the charge of genocide against racist Israel before the ICJ. Hateful U.S. racists are complicit with Israel’s many war crimes and crimes against humanity.

reply

There is still de facto segregation in the U.S. The LA suburb I live in is like 40% white and 40% Asian and only 3% black. When I was a child in my elementary and high school in 12 years I remember maybe one black kid. Yet 10 miles from me in Compton there are few Asians or whites.

And yes, kudos to South Africa for calling out Israel.

My statements are rhetorical, just so you know. I obviously oppose colonialism and support majority rule.

Still think it's wrongheaded to say the Boers should leave South Africa though.

reply

"There is still de facto segregation in the U.S."

Absolutely! The U.S. racism is systemic and is still intact throughout its institutions. A great book:

"The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America"
Richard Rothstein

This book explains why segregation has continued and the remedy (which will never happen).

reply

This article is about ALL of Africa, but I would guess that South Africa would be disproportionately richer with its infrastructure...

https://www.unep.org/regions/africa/our-work-africa#:~:text=The%20largest%20reserves%20of%20cobalt,internal%20renewable%20fresh%20water%20source.
Africa is rich in natural resources ranging from arable land, water, oil, natural gas, minerals, forests and wildlife. The continent holds a huge proportion of the world’s natural resources, both renewables and non-renewables.

"Africa is home to some 30 percent of the world’s mineral reserves, eight per cent of the world’s natural Gas and 12 per cent of the world’s oil reserves. The continent has 40 percent of the world’s gold and up to 90 percent of its chromium and platinum. The largest reserves of cobalt, diamonds, platinum and uranium in the world are in Africa. It holds 65 per cent of the world’s arable land and ten percent of the planet’s internal renewable fresh water source."

On a personal note:

"African coffee production makes up 12% of the overall worldwide production of coffee beans."

"About 70 percent of the world's cocoa beans come from four West African countries: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon."

We're not talking Haiti here...

reply

And I'm having trouble believing that crime is worse in South Africa than Nigeria. South Africa is a wealthy nation, comparatively.

reply

The majority are poor. Poverty drives crime.

reply

Hell, I wouldn't even visit my hometown NYC these days, let alone South Africa!

reply

Man, I would love to visit New York, but it seems to get a scarier place every year.

reply

Just stick to the bright lights and you’ll be fine.

reply

Stay away! It sounds like you found a really comfortable place to live.

The homelesss, the cost of living, the completely senseless violent crime, migrant squatters and traffic congestion are out of control and that's just in The Bronx, I rarely venture into Manhattan but I doubt it's any better and it's likely worse.

reply

To be fair, a holidaymaker wouldn’t go to The Bronx.

reply

That’s a fair point, but I doubt Manhattan is worth visiting anymore. The fentanyl scourge has hit the entire city hard, these zombies walk right into traffic now while you’re just driving to your job. It’s insane!

reply

It’s been 9 years since I was in NYC. Every time I come over to the States, I notice the homeless problem has increased.

reply

NYC is much safer than states with lax gun laws.
https://news.yahoo.com/americans-hopelessly-confused-big-city-110054014.html

Europe and Canada are safer than gun obsessed U.S.

reply

I love the country. The natural beauty there is just stunning.

The violence there is not limited to Western tourists though. My partner's family is there. People are murdered in that country every minute. Women are raped even more often. Sorry to say that I don't think the criminals there target just tourists. Have you ever seen the video of the news reporter getting robbed while live on the air?

My very first night in Joburg, years ago, a woman was screaming nearby. My partner, and the friends we were staying with went to go see what was happening. Of course they took the dogs. I was told to stay put, but that this is sometimes a ruse to get the owners out of the house. If I saw someone hop the wall I should run upstairs, and lock the security gate behind me. Nothing happened to me, but a woman had been raped.

That being said, we have road tripped that entire country. There are certainly places that are worse than others, but with caution, it's a beautiful place. I'd never live there full time, but I certainly will go back.

reply

More and more South Africans are moving to the Netherlands, which probably says enough.

reply

Yeppers. There are a lot of South Africans here too. I was talking to a friend of mine working in Abu Dhabi and she said she found a South African store, and there are a few members of her team from there as well. We've been trying to get my partner's kids to move here as well as the grandkids, but they are just as stubborn as their father, and just don't want to move.

Cute story....We were taking a taxi in Belize City, and during the conversation my partner asked about the crime in the city. The driver said it was probably similar to any major city where we were from. Partner said, "I'm South African". The driver was like "Oh God! You will be so much safer here!"

I'm not saying that it isn't a violent place. I think it's one of the most violent, if not the most, countries, on this planet, but the beauty really is something. I don't know if I would have felt as "safe" as I did, if I wasn't almost always with a local.

I'm a follower of this YouTuber who is from S. Africa and relocated to Switzerland. She's a multi-talented, interesting and amazing woman. In addition to managing several channels, she's a great artist, has published several true crime books, has been a competitive swimmer and was also an airline pilot at one time. Her S. African accent is always evident and pleasant to listen to: https://grizzlytruecrime.com/

reply

IT IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL...I HAVE SEEN MANY WONDERFUL PICTURES OF THE PLACE.

reply

But, if it’s a choice between going to a beautiful place where you might get killed or going to a beautiful place where you probably won’t - guess which one I’m going to choose for the next King holiday?

reply

LMAO...ABSOLUTELY.

reply

Kosovo? Darfur?

reply

Funnily enough, I was trying to organise a lads weekend in Kiev when the war broke out. I was joking that we’d be holed up in a bar, bombs being dropped all around us and a Sky News team doing a story about a bunch of crazy Brits refusing to leave the war zone until all the beer had ran out πŸ»πŸ€£πŸ‘

reply

Do you understand how much world peace could be achieved with your handlebar mustache?

reply

It’s changed shape - I’ve been gradually making it shorter to resemble a β€˜normal’ moustache.

reply

But that thing could have won awards.

reply

Same in the UK.

reply

Netherlands is the Africaners country of origin.

reply

You’re not selling it to me, lol.

reply

I wasn't trying to sell it. I totally agree that if there are other places to go that are safer, one should go. I will say that more Canadian tourists have been killed in Mexico than any other country.

reply

Strangely enough we were in Mexico one December and we were fine.

reply

I was there 6 years ago and had a wonderful time. In Capetown, our hotel had a shuttle that took us to places to shop and dine. We were there for 3 nights before going onto our safari and I never felt unsafe.

reply

Yep, it's what happens when you replace a system that works with one that is known to fail.

reply

System works the same as it always did. That's the problem.
