Bridge Collapse in Baltimore - Mass Casualty Event

Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday morning (March 26) around 1:30 am local time when apparently struck by a container vessel. Below is a video of the disaster.

When I watch, it appears to portray first responder vehicles with emergency lights stopped on the right side of bridge as if they anticipated a collision was impending. But you can still see a handful of vehicles crossing moments before the collision occurred. It looks like the ship has engine power with smoke billowing from the stacks but the ship goes completely dark and then lights back up just before the impact. It seems to steer right into the bridge support. Reports are saying multiple vehicles plummeted hundreds of feet into the river below but it looks like the bridge was relatively empty when it actually fell.

I just saw that on the news. That is horrifying.

I hope everyone is ok but the news is saying up to seven people are missing.

reply

I wonder if the Mothman was around to foreshadow something like this occurring like in Point Pleasant VA where that bridge collapsed and people reported seeing this thing before the event occurred?? 🤔

reply

Has President Trump been briefed?

reply

If they'd let him know beforehand he could have saved the day with his powers of negotiation

reply

This is terrible, tragic news.

reply

At first I thought the cargo hit the bridge as a miscalculation of the room above, but when you see the video it almost looks intentional.

reply

If it was intentional, then they also did some other work such as causing black smoke and killing the lights to sell it. Not saying no, but I think an investigation will pretty quickly determine if the technical failures were intentional or not.

reply

Yeah, I didn't notice the lights going out at first. I was too focused on the impact to notice.

reply

It doesn't mean it wasn't intentional, just that it's not a middle finger terrorist act. If it was intentional, they're trying to make it look like an accident.

Personally, I think it was accidental but I'll of course wait for the investigation.

reply

At first I thought it was intentional, but after seeing the lights go out, I'm guessing they couldn't see the support beams from the bridge and couldn't see where they could turn away.

reply

From what I've read, the lights out may indicate they also lost bridge and rudder control. They had also dropped at least one anchor but people in the know say stopping a ship that big at 8 knots would take a mile by anchor. They did send out a "mayday" which from what I've heard, greatly reduced the traffic on the bridge but I don't know why it didn't stop all traffic?

reply

Maybe they couldn't stop the cars that already began to drive across. From the distance of the bridge, it looks like it would have taken a few minutes to cross.

reply

Perhaps.

reply

Yeah, those images that the networks keep replaying are kind of mind boggling.

reply

The vehicles I thought were first responders turned out to be a road crew fixing pot holes. Terrible luck for those guys

reply

I keep seeing different points of view depending on which major network I'm watching. Someone just said that bridge had already been rebuilt once before.

reply

Does the City of Baltimore really send out crews at 1:30 am (local time) to fix pot holes?

reply

The media is reporting the answer is “yes.” It looks like they were contractors from a road construction company

reply

How often do you see crews fixing potholes in the middle of the day with busy traffic?

Through the night is when most highway maintenance is performed.

reply

A bridge collapsing when it's struck by a 985 foot freighter ship boggles your mind?

Buy a LEGO kit and ride a skateboard into it.

'Your mind' really IS boggled!

reply

Wow!
That looks really awesome!
The way the bridge falls apart is so cool looking.

And oh the irony of a bridge named after the composer of our Natl' Anthem.
If there was a flag on there it ain't standing no more!
Frankie goes down!

”Wow!

Yeah! Really cool looking, especially when vehicles (those things containing humans, etc.) went plunging into the water!

You continue to sound like someone still in middle school. “It’s so cool looking.” Maybe you’ll be crossing a bridge someday as it starts falling apart. Maybe you’ll experience that “cool looking” feel. Neato!! Totally awesome! 🙄

“Frankie goes down” along with breathing humans. You’re SICK!

reply

I can't help it.
It was spectacular looking.

Fuck all humans except me and those I know.

reply

I agree, he probably is an actual child, being cool and edgy, so dark man.

Hopefully he will grow out of it.

reply

I’m not just saying it as a slam against him. I truly believe there’s something amiss with him. He does write as if he’s 6th grade material. Adults don’t speak the way he does.

He has shown NO empathy over this and in prior posts. This is a tragic incident involving people who have lost their lives. He blasts all humans except himself and those he knows. Definitely middle school or mental.

reply

And I agree.

reply

Ignore the troll.

reply

Good advice as we’re just feeding the arsehole when we reply to him. Though it was difficult not to reply to him yesterday. I could not believe what he wrote after seeing that work crew and others plunge into 25 feet of water after the impact! WarrenPeace apparently has no soul. A juvenile with no soul.

reply

Just looking for attention

reply

Very tragic. I've heard there are more than a dozen still missing (I could have the number count wrong).
