Isn't it Weird How...

...the original, made in 1988, made no reference to racism, privilege, or woke shit. It just tried to tell a story, entertain, and make you laugh.

Yet this sequel, made in 2021, repeatedly brings those things up.

Did racism get worse in the last 30+ years or something?

Oh, and also it wasn't funny. Murphy and Hall were great, but all the modern introductions were awful. And too many songs.

reply

Other than the guy at the job interview, I didn't really notice much wokeness, and my woke-BS radar is pretty sensitive. It seemed to aim mainly to be just entertaining. One thing I did notice was that the three bathing girls or whatever they call them were topless in the original, but were wearing brown leotards in the sequel. And one of them was plus-size.

reply

The whole "worthy daughter being passed over for her unworthy brother" storyline was peak 2021 "wokeness".

They also had 3 young girls whooping Wesley Snipes' ass, really?

reply

Even thought the idea was a welcome one they didn't really have to take it to the extreme because in 80% reality situation those big muscled soldiers and Snipes character would have beaten the girls asses unless they had a rocket launcher.

In history there are women who were powerful smart and actually ruled but Hollywood just want to show us that women can do anything ALONE, well honestly 80% of them can't :)

reply

In a real situation Snipes and his men would not have gotten anywhere near them before their security swooped in on them.

reply

Yeah Palace with no guards was also a stupid issue...unless the general bought them off.

Translation:
In the past a woman is a mans property and i dont see whats wrong with that , men are superior to women.
Why would a woman be considered for a position that is rightfully a mans.

GROW THE FUCK UP YOU CAVEMAN

reply

I'll translate your post -

"I couldn't find anything to be offended about so I will just make it up"

Pathetic, spineless, humanshaped sack of soy.

reply

The guy i was replying to was clearly "offended" that the daughter was a worthy contender for the throne.

reply

Nope.

reply

Completely false.

I talked about the son being UNWORTHY while the daughter being WORTHY as peak 2021 wokeness.

It wasn't just about the girl being worthy, they had to make her brother patently unworthy and ghetto to justify her being the only possible person who was truly worthy.

And what progress the brother made was only because the saintly sister helped him out.

reply

The worthy daughter thing made sense to me - she wasn't worthy because of her woman-ness; she was worthy because she trained in the fighting arts just like Akeem did in his youth. The son was "unworthy" (and that's overstating it) because he didn't have that background and training.

It might have been better if the son WAS a total goofball. Maybe there could have been some laughs to be had with that! I actually thought Tracy Morgan was going to play the son, which could have been hilarious (or not; Tracy was given nothing funny to do in this movie either. Crazy!)

It did seem weird that Akeem wouldn't have changed the rules beforehand about women being allowed to take the throne - even if he waited until his father died to make the change, maybe? I thought that's what was going to happen. But whatever; I was okay with it as a setup. As a comedic premise, why not? It was obvious that the daughter was going to end up in line for the throne in the end.

reply

i concur with all points

Today, Woke people run Hollywood, the news media and the government. Yet racism is presented as more of a problem now than it ever has been. If all these Woke people are in charge and systemic racism is so horrifyingly bad, perhaps they are doing something wrong?

reply

It isnt that racism has gotten worse, it is more that it has not improved as much as it should have over the last few decades. On top of that, you have more people aware of it (a LOT of white people really had no idea how bad it was until very recently), and you have more people out from under their rock causing it, between more common use of social media and people feel safe being asshats from behind a keyboard in a way they would not in real life, and the last several years of having a racist front and center of one of the most powerful countries in the world. So with that louder, the counter voice also has to get louder.

reply

Things were getting better though.

Since wokeness arrived, can that still be said (hint: the answer is no).

reply

Agreed. All this harping on racism and the "evil white man" is just making white people more racist.

reply

No, it's making everyone other than white people more racist towards white people... and each other.

reply

It'll be both then.

reply

But racism has improved to such a point that we are literally looking at “micro aggressions” as a form
Of racist offense! That alone tells you how much progress we have made. These days there are organizations that desperately try to find anything that can somewhat labeled “racist” to justify their existence in this world. It’s nonsense

There’s very little actual racism out there in America today

reply

Sounds about white…

reply

I keep saying all the woke shit is just systematic brainwashing of the today's generation by Hollywood's elite faggots.

reply

"Did racism get worse in the last 30+ years or something? "

I think it did , these days , every time a black guy gets on tv
assholes like you start screamning about "woke shit"

30 years ago the intrernet wasnt developed enught to let armies of closet racists vent their feelings of inadequacy whilst hiding behind the anonymity of a keyboard, so yeah , its got worse

reply

Bingo. How can you even know what people thought 30 years ago?

reply

And knowing what people secretly think is important to you, isn't it?

Grrr, let's build a time machine and find out what those bigots were thinking.

reply

You're the fucking idiot that thinks bigots like you didn't complain about a "woke agenda" or whatever dumb buzzwords they had 30 years ago.

reply

They didn't, you simpleton.

By the way, there's a guy on the Big Bang Theory board who said something that might be construed as racist (if you squint). You should get over there pronto!

reply

Door to door poll?

reply

"I think it did , these days , every time a black guy gets on tv

Except... no, they don't.

What they actually do is point out that white liberals have become so obsessed with race that they feels compelled to force everyone else to see it and identity as the sole defining characteristics of human existence. You're idiots. And we're pointing out that you're idiots.

Take the loss with more dignity.

Oh, and this film was actually racist towards all Africans. You know, the people you dumb cunt Yanks know nothing about.

reply

Yes it was. People like you either weren't born or weren't smart enough to use bulletin boards, forums, chats or usenet.

Guess what, online multiplayer existed 30 years ago, too!

*GASP*

reply

yeah yeah , i was there .i said
wasnt developed *enough* to let armies of closet racists vent their feelings

the knuckle draggers wernt there yet

reply

It's as if times changes. Weird concept, huh?

reply

Things got worse.

You're an imbecile.

reply

Yeah, because of morons like you fighting against progression.

reply

You literally had to invent 'microaggressions' because you couldn't find any racism, you muppet. 😂😂

reply

Racism became a more viable political sledgehammer over this time. For decades now there has been an industry behind convincing the herd that racism is worse than ever and actions must be taken to correct it, irrespective of any validity to those claims. I'd say that in the 1980s nobody would take seriously assertions like those made today, that "white nationalism" is the single greatest social threat the USA faces, as opposed to the manifestly obvious violence committed by BLM, Antifa, etc. It's essential for race industry hucksters to maintain these illusions. You must believe that the bozos who were invited by the police into the capital on January 6th are the single greatest threat to US traditions of democracy. The propaganda gets more absurd and venomous in inverse proportion to the validity of "woke" claims.

So far as this crappy new film is concerned, it obviously got production approval because it fits in nicely with the prevailing propaganda. Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, etc., didn't get "woke" suddenly in any honest manner, as if their social consciences were suddenly enlightened after deep reflection. Garbage like Coming to America II, like other trash of the past dumped upon the public (the worst of the 80s slasher films and sex comedies, for instance), is strictly a cynical business decision. Whether that business model is poisonous to social unity is irrelevant to these jackasses who decide what to bankroll.

reply

If everything is racist and far right... they can justify demanding more left-wing shit.

It's the same principle behind socialists claiming late-stage capitalism is failing. Yeah, sure it is.
