The Ana de Armas character.

Ok she was fantastic and lovely as has been mentioned in other threads but I’m curious about the “3 weeks training” line. It seemed to be serious in its delivery like they’d hooked Bond up with a rookie but then she kicked ass and was clearly a talented agent. So was the whole rookie thing just bullshit?

reply

She said I did 3 weeks training FOR THIS. She was a good agent who trained hard for just one mission. The line was also ad libbed by Ana De Armas and was not in the script because she herself had trained for 3 weeks to do her scenes for this Bond film. I got this from interview with Fukunaga.

reply

She should be the in the next "Bond" as the lead. Just continue the story with her and some new foes. No need for the Brits In a spinoff continuation, is there? Maybe some more crossover later on.

reply

I really liked her too.

It's one of the only times we see someone with all these skills who seems to actually enjoy her work with no need to be "cool" about it.

Aside from the fact that she's played by Ana de Armas, she just seems like a really cool co-worker: reliable, competent but not afraid to have fun

reply

Yeah, would love to see a 007 with her as the lead ...

reply

But she was the American agent. She would have to quit CIA and join MI6, how would that work?

reply

No need for MI6, just keep the universe the same and have some crossover. But keep Bond dead. It would be refreshing and exciting.

reply

I don't think there is going to be a next "Bond" movie. I mean Bond is dead, this could be the last one.

reply

Wow, we have a new Nostradamus right here!

reply

But at the end of the film the screen said "James Bond Will Return."

reply

Yeah, that is why they killed him, just so he could return.

reply

Plus, what the producers say. Keep informed. ;-)

reply

Sure, there will be more Bond films, but IMHO it won't be soon. I think they'll wait until the pandemic has sorted itself out... and the world has decided whether it still needs movie theaters. The business model based on the production of monster "tentpole" movies seems to have crashed and burned as of 2020, and they aren't going to invest in a new Bond film until they have some idea of what kind of business model will work in today's world.

Five years at least.

reply

She was fantastic and they gave her some great lines. She really came out of nowhere to steal every scene. I don’ think she should be the next Bond but I would watch a movie centered around her playin that character. I have to admit though, that character reminded me of the fun bond from the old movies.

reply

She was great but I will admit after seeing Knock, Knock recently her voice is still as bothersome as ever XD

reply

Why was she even in the movie? Her role seemed pretty pointless.

reply

It's a very eye-catching guest appearance and I liked it. But in a sense you're right and it didn't really do anything for the story.

reply

She was the American agent after the same poison. Bond at the time was working for CIA.

reply

Craig liked her in KO and asked for scenes to be written for her

reply

Really? Interesting.

There are always secondary Bond Girls, wearing something sexy! Usually there's several, and typically there's a villain's girl whom Bond seduces and who gets killed, and a hot young female agent who sometimes betrays Bond and who usually gets killed.

She was the traditional secondary Bond Girl agent, one who did indeed wear something sexy, but who didn't take the "getting killed" option, and she was great fun. I'd be happy to see Paloma return, but since I think it'll be quite some time before the next film comes out, and that film will be a total franchise reboot, so I don't expect that to happen.

reply

Looked to me like they had shot two entirely different versions of that sequence and then just stitched together the best bits. In one she was a rookie and the in the other she was femme fatale and they just said screw it.

reply

The only enjoyable thing in the movie.

reply

she was awesome, as was the entire Cuba sequence.

too bad she left after
: (

reply

Agreed — she and the Cuba sequence were the highlight of an otherwise disappointing movie.

reply

Or here is the underlying message: Any woman with 3 weeks training could replace Bond, he is actually only slightly above average.

reply

I thought she was very funny and a good character, I wish she had a bigger role. I also really liked the way they used her dress, all its fluid motions. I'm wondering what that was like to film. I've worn long dresses and they actually tend to get caught up in the legs. But mine are probably a lot cheaper than hers. Maybe expensive, well-made evening dresses are better for fighting than cheap off-the-rack evening dresses. :)
