Here's a challenge: Convince me vegans are wrong

It's a lot harder than it seems. I myself am not vegan or vegetarian, and I doubt I ever will be. I'm extremely lazy and selfish, and I love meat too much. But I have no logical way to justify my choices. I am literally paying people to murder innocent, sentient beings, when I can easily survive on a vegan diet.

This is what you choose as your first post?

reply

First post of a new sock that is. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

reply

Which one?

reply

Who the hell knows, the socks and trolls are starting to outnumber the real people here lately.

We’ll outlast them though.

reply

There was one I noticed recently who has changed their M.O. from their first couple of posts. It's rather amusing.

reply

PM me the handle, I think I have a couple of suspects.

reply

Take your pick LOL. Lots of them are the same person. πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† Probably TheMan18.

reply

I feel like he'd be one of the easiest to recognize though lol

reply

Kinda seems like him even though it's a short post. Maybe he knows he's been busted that quickly so hasn't posted further... yet. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

reply

It does seem like a man18 post...lol but you're right. I was only judging the length.

reply

Having multiple accounts is sad and pathetic.

reply

If vegans are right, why do they try and make all their products taste like meat?

reply

Because meat tastes good, nobody denies that. Nobody deserves to die for taste.

reply

I’m a carnivore, I have canine teeth - welcome to the food chain.

reply

Good point!

reply

no its not , not really , its a nonsensical redundant pointless point .

sorry Andy .
fellow meat eater here too btw

reply

It was meant as a joke.

reply

As a nearly 40 year vegetarian (lacto-ovo) I can assure you that most of what you see on the shelves doesn't taste like meat and don't make any real attempt to. I personally find the meat-substitute thing a bit tedious but not terrible. And veganism isn't about how something tastes, it's about where it comes from. I'll also point out that a lot of vegetarian processed "meat substitute" food doesn't sell to vegetarians as much as you might think. A fair amount of it is for non-vegetarians (especially non-vegans) who have dietary needs. I'm been asked by a lot of meat eaters about "meat substitute" due to medical reasons.

reply

It was meant as a joke.

reply

And I can accept that from you. You seem to be one of the more level-headed people around here. I just see a lot of meat eaters who think this is a valid observation. Two companies make a bit of a stir in the meat-substitute world and the next thing you have tons of the anti-vegetarian crowd screaming bloody murder. Some have even claimed that the fact that meat substitutes often take the form of a patty is reason enough alone to call it a fraud... as if the beef burger patty is a natural cut of meat. This is normally from the same people who also think that turkey burger is a threat to the meat loving world and some kind of communist conspiracy.

reply

Thanks. Tbh I eat vegan food every so often and it’s come on leaps and bounds in recent years. Personally I have no problem with what people want to eat, as long as they let me eat what I want.

reply

Hello! Welcome to the forum! I am fairly new still but Moviechat has a nice forum here and everyone is really friendly.

I'm not sure if I could convince you or if you are even right or wrong. I eat meat, but I've known both men and women who were very healthy and fit, who were meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. I'm not sure if there is a perfect diet.

I understand some people take up that lifestyle because they are against the abuse of farm animals. I do admire that and I wish I could say I was that strong to control my appetite, but I love the taste of meat and for me it's hard to give that up.

reply

If you think everyone at Moviechat is friendly, you haven't been to he Politics section!

Don't. Just don't.

reply

Careful. This one likes to send members bipolar messages. And they're not a new member. Only a new sock.

There's a big difference between "surviving' and "living", LaKisha.

reply

So true.

I'm veggie because I'm fortunate enough to live in a country with an abundance of food. Many are not so lucky and eat what they can to survive.

If I were starving and on my last legs and a chicken strolled past, then instinct would kick in and the chicken would be no more.

reply

Likewise. These dietary limitations are a choice, not a necessity, and if someone is willing to die to spare a chicken that would also be their choice.

And some people really are willing to stick with a nutritionally inadequate vegan diet, even if the vitamin and protein deficiencies that come with a vegan diet make them ill. I'm not, and that's one of the big reasons I'm a vegetarian and not a vegan. The other big reason is cheese.

reply

Cheese 🀀

reply

Mmmmm..... cheese... delicious cheese ..

And butter!

reply

Okay then.

"I am literally paying people to murder innocent, sentient beings"

We've reviewed your request to redefine the term murder, and after much consideration, we regret to inform you that your request has been denied. We feel that it is best at this time to retain the well-established definition, i.e., the unlawful killing of a human with malice aforethought.

reply

They’re not.

I feel the same way!
Ideally they start growing non sentient meat in a lab soon ...

I think my main issue with meat (which im ignoring and vontiniuing to eat) is the amount of resource it takes to produce it, ie feeding the cattle/pigs . compared to the amopunt of food could be grown in that space

reply

I'm going to sit back and let some other folks try the non-sentient lab meat first.

Maybe even wait a decade or so to see if there are any lasting side effects like a useless third appendage growing out of your back.

reply

Animals can't murdered.
