What makes me really mad about this disease is...

The time to act was RIGHT AWAY when we knew Chinese were leaving and spreading it around the world.

But in Australia, they took weeks to cancel flights from China. They then allowed Chinese to enter Australia if they had spent 2 weeks in another country. Still, infected people came in.

Last month, they let the gay and lesbian mardi gras parade go ahead in Sydney. 200,000 people on the streets.

They were letting cruise ships continue to trade only up to last week.

Now they're in "lock down".

The horse has bolted. Had we had good leadership 3 months ago, Australia could have stopped it even arriving.

reply

Pretty much the same scenario in America.

reply

They stopped flights from China early in USA.

reply

That was a good move.

reply

Apparently not early enough

reply

^ this.

reply

Apparently not early enough

US stopped flights from China only 24 hours after WHO declared health emergency in January 30th.

reply

I understand that. My point was, look whats going on outside. No matter what, we didn't catch it early enough. I'm not really looking to blame anyone. This just all sucks.

reply

Oh it could be a DAMN sight worse here.

reply

USA just passed China for most COVID cases worldwide.

reply

Dear oh dear! Some people never let a chance go by, do they? No matter which side of government was in power, somebody somewhere will blame them for everything!.

When the Left is governing, the followers of the Right will repeatedly point out their economic failures. And when the Right is governing, the followers of the Left will accuse it of every natural disaster.

It's such a ridiculous way to behave.

reply

Yeah, I certainly don't envy any government who has to steer the ship through this crisis, what a nightmare.

Also, in Australia at least, I can't see how having a Labor government in power would have made the impact any less. They would have surely made just as many blunders. We are all dealing with unprecedented events and there is no manual on how to handle this situation. I have to believe that the government is doing its best.

All that said, I agree Scott Morrison is ill-equipped to deal with the humanitarian aspect of any disaster, as his performance during the bushfires proved all to well. Right now though, that's a problem to deal with at a later date.

reply

If we had the type of medicine that you guys keep telling us is the bestest system on the planet, that the Hollywood cocksuckers are trying to push on us, this is on all.

reply

I'm sure that sentence makes sense to someone.

Just not to me.

reply

That was a sentence?

reply

Um... what?

reply

Translation please.

Some things are hard to stop... here in Singapore very rapid action was taken right from the beginning, all outdoor events cancelled etc. One positive is that we have only had two deaths to date - both in the last week or so - but it is still spreading very fast, with a lot of new cases daily. I just found out last night that I have to take the whole of April as compulsory unpaid leave from work - efforts to stop the spread just aren't working.

reply

At this rate, let's just give up. If we die, we die.

reply

You go first. I'll be right behind you.

I’m from Louisiana and Mardi Gras was the first week in February. I didn’t go anywhere near New Orleans because of what was coming and I advised others not to either. I’m just an average citizen and you would think our damn local government would have more information than I would and should have cancelled the parades. Of course they didn’t and now New Orleans is having an explosion in cases. It’s obvious they chose the economy over the lives of the people. Our governor was asked on CNN why he thought New Orleans has a higher rate of daily new cases than anywhere else on the planet and he said he did not know. He just does not have a clue. It makes me feel disgusted.

reply

I'm about as Progressive as you can get (at least I think so), but cancelling events that are economic engines isn't a light decision. Shutting things down sounds easy and obvious but interrupting commerce has huge effects on people across all levels. I may have something resembling health but I was already concerned about my income and this is making it worse.

reply

I understand that being a hard decision but For him to then say he does not know why there is such an elevated infection rate is absurd.

reply

Because of political correctness...

People cannot reject anyone these days unless there are dire consequences.

And sadly they waited too long

Diseases and pandemics had much stricter guidelines back in the day.

Every immigrant was tested and vaccines on Ellis island before entering the country.

Today because of political correctness. they ignore these things

reply

Fuck political correctness!

reply

Yes, and it's now "racist" to call this a chinese disease.

reply

It IS racist ! Chinese people don't deserve to be thought poorly of because of this calamity any more than you do when the US steps into foreign matters they don't belong in.

reply

Sometimes people who eat dogs and bats need to be called out and be brought up by date.

Go on YouTube and look at the videos. The Chinese people need to change their ways

reply

I will take your word for it.
We take a lot for granted in the Western World but even and especially today what progress we try to make is faced with a ton of opposition, looking at abortion rights and climate change, health care, income inequality.
People cry about the government being over-bearing then when a crisis hits everyone wonders why they aren't doing more.

reply

I don't feel it's racist. The Chinese unleashed this movie like virus on the world. It's the truth.
