Shouldn’t Obi-Wan be as powerful as Vader?

I get that Anakin is supposed to be incredible, but shouldn’t Obi-Wan be up there too? It just feels a little weird that Vader helplessly threw him in the air. I mean, he could have clearly killed him right then and there.

I just think that Obi should be powerful enough to not be so vulnerable against Anakin.

Yeah, that could have been an epic scene instead it played out like garbage.

Even the setting was completely lacking in any kind of grandeur. I just kept thinking to myself this looks an awful lot like one street town set up we've already seen in the first season of the Mandalorian.

Still, cheap to produce and subscriptions are up so who can complain really...

reply

Viewers can still complain ...

Apparently, 95% of all events in the Star Wars universe take place on Tatooine.

reply

Obi-Wan has been sitting around doing nothing for 10 years.

reply

Exactly

Great plan!
The first thing you do when you have to protect a kid against the 2 most powerful beings in the known world.

PS You go out get a job at a meat factory although you are friends with a ruler of an entire planet that knows your plan and your plight.
Bail Organa would have been. "Here's a gazillion of (currency). You just make sure Luke is protected 24/7.

reply

Yes, but he's spent ten years feeling sorry for himself and turning into a sad little coach potato.

The whole point of the show is building him back up.

reply

How come he didn't get fat like Thor?

Actually, now that I come to think of it, are the weight challenged represented within the Star Wars universe (Jabba aside) at all?

reply

Porkins probably. The rancor’s handler in ROTJ too.

reply

He should and we should wait. Someone on yt compared this to the Rocky series. Where Rocky loses unceremoniously only to get up and win later on with the help of an old mentor.

I think a YouTuber using the handle "The Critical Drinker" hit the nail on the head in a recent video he posted:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3FF_vBwftw

He says (commenting on the criticism of the show) "...it's becoming increasingly obvious with every passing episode, that Kenobi isn't really about Kenobi. It's just another example of Lucasfilm milking a popular character for their name recognition, then altering their personality, removing most of their agency, charisma, resilience, skill, and intelligence, and generally diminishing them, so they can play second fiddle to the new, original character that the show was actually focused on." (Sounds rather like what happened to Luke and Han, doesn't it?)

The point of the whole video is that this accusation of "toxic fandom" is deeply unfair to the vast majority of fans, who are not racists, are not criticizing the show for anything to do with bigoted dislike of Moses Ingram, and the controversy just so happens to provide a useful distraction from the fact that fans are upset that they aren't getting the story about Kenobi they were promised, as well as provide a convenient way to dismiss such criticism, because if it's coming from "toxic" people, why should anyone heed it?

reply

Jesus. Stuckman sounds like Jack Ripper in Dr Strangelove talking about the flouridization of water conspiracy.

In truth he's just another youtuber milking all his miserable nerd subs for that hate dollar.

I cooked up a theory earlier than Obi-Wan has intentionally been abstaining from the Force to atrophy his control over it, so that his presence couldn't be detected and maintain his watch over Luke. Like Yoda had to hide with the Cave of Evil to cloak his presence. But Obi-Wan instead just kind of became a normal man again. If this was the plan, Obi would always be kicking Luke over to Yoda for his training when the time came. If this is what actually happened, that would pretty much make Obi the greatest Jedi ever in my eyes. To play the long game so hard you deny all your life's training and purpose, that's pretty dedicated. It's a goofy idea that doesn't really fit with established lore, but it would explain some things.

reply

But then suddenly, in A New Hope he has all his old powers and then some equaling Vader again? yeah... I don't think so. His weakness is a huge and un-explained plot hole.

reply

He still has 8 more years before ANH so it's not a plot hole. Yet.

reply

I thought they were 18 in A New Hope. Sorry.

reply

don't apologize, for years it WAS 18

at some point it must have been retconned to 19 ( probably by Dizney )

i only found out about the change when i googled it ( cue Mandela Effect music )

reply

I like your theory, but wasn't he constantly trying to contact Jinn through the Force when he was in hiding?

reply

I don’t think that will be the last meeting b/w Obi Wan and his former padawan.

reply

Being disconnected from the force to avoid detection for all these years has left him weak. While rescuing Leia from the spice lab, notice he hurt his hand after throwing a measly punch. Then later he just barely saved her from going splat after falling from the building. I assume he's slowly building back up his mojo!
