No whites? Or asian? Latino? Euro?

Where's the diversity? It's 2018, not 1918.

reply

I also find it odd thats its being released in February. And racism only flows in one direction.

reply

School break maybe? Less competition too. Only guessing.

While hypocrisy in racism and a marketing team influencing casting to hopefully maximize profits are two different things, one happens because of the other.

It's a circle that won't ever break until we stop seeing colour. Until we stop making decisions based on colour.

reply

February is black history month.

"It's a circle that won't ever break until we stop seeing colour. Until we stop making decisions based on colour."

My feelings exactly. We still live in a culture that is divided by race and skin color. I have no problem with an all black movie but when its an all white movie everyone claims racism and lack of diversity.

reply

Oh. Black history month. That makes sense.

reply

Where's me white history month then. and before anyone calls me racist, I am speaking for latinos and asians too

reply

do you really need/want to be reminded of white history?

reply

To be far the rest of history is white history. We all know about our exodus from europe but do you know the history of india chinda or latin america. Don't get me wrong I don't want to get overloaded with everyones history. Also what do we ever learn from black history month. Only the civil rights movments. Are black history only seems to extend to when they stepped on slave ships bound for the USA. Where were they before that and how were they captured is never taught.

reply

It's all too confusing. I wish they stayed slaves. Life would have been easier

reply

Considering it is nothing but a fictional movie they should have released it on MLK's birthday it would have fit right in with the fictional BS about how great a plagiarist and adulterer is as a role model for black Americans.

reply

School break maybe? Less competition too. Only guessing.
We'll just assume and pretend that you're not from the USA for the purposes of my response. In America February is Black history Month. The movie is being released during Black History Month to appeal to the pride of Blacks within the USA around this movie. BP was the 1st mainstreamed Black superhero in print form that was introduced in 1966. It was a rather bold thing to do by Stan Lee and jack Kirby.

**While hypocrisy in racism and a marketing team influencing casting to hopefully maximize profits are two different things, one happens because of the other.** Please provide us some background into your views on "Hypocrisy in Racism" so that we are discussing this from the same POV. How has the Disney marketing team influenced casting to maximize profits?

For me your entire statement is not decipherable, and I'm being serious, because it lacks any context as it appears to be a conclusion in search of a premise.

**It's a circle that won't ever break until we stop seeing colour. Until we stop making decisions based on colour.**

Based on your spelling of "Colour" I will presume that you are not from the USA. I will also assume that your perspective to racism is unlearned from a USA set of events and probably leans more to mainstream media and is also neither collegiate nor studied. Again forgive me if I am wrong and feel free to enlighten us all.

As to NOT seeing color or colour? That is like we have to actively ignore one's gender to get rid of sexism and we have to ignore age to get rid of ageism. Let's pretend that when a person rolls into a room that they don't have a wheelchair? The wheelchair doesn't define the person as having limitations but to ignore that they are wheelchair bound is the height of arrogance.

How about we NOT attach biases and stereotypes to the differences of people. Some are unavoidable, I know.

This is relatively TOO easy to unpack and critique for the sheer silliness of the statement. I apologize in advance if you put a LOT of thought into that statement but here goes:

February is a calendar month of the 12 months. Here is a list of movies to be released in February:
Black Panther
Early Man
Samson
The Boy Downstairs
Loveless (2018)
The Monkey King 3
Nostalgia
Oh Lucy!
The Party (2017)

So for you it is ODD that BP releases in February? Care to explain WHY it is odd to you?

So what is racist at the moment in regards to BP? Please provide some real world examples of this racism that you allude to flowing in only one direction.

Let's discuss!

reply

"The Miss Black America beauty contest is a competition for young African-American women"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Black_America

Here is just one real world example. Would you kindly explain this contest?

reply

Before I explain to you WHY it is and WHAT it is please explain WHY you think it is Racist? You're using a wiki reference and most of what you are looking for is in that reference.

reply

I provided an example and now you are balking at a response because you have none.

reply

The Miss Black America Pageant is a Racist pageant? Is that your answer as to an example of Racism flowing only in one direction?

When did the Miss Black America Pageant become a Racist Pageant? Did you find that answer in the wiki reference?

Where were the protests by Whites, Asians and Native Americans who were systematically excluded from this pageant? Is that in that wiki reference? Name me please all of the young women who wanted to compete in pageants but were denied access to compete and who could not participate in the Miss Black America pageant.

Please name them. Now answer my questions.

reply

I am sorry in advance if you put a LOT of thought into that statement but it is TOO easy to unpack just for the sheer stupidity of that statement. I will just assume you are not from America so therefore you do not clearly understand the English language and its intricacies. I am being serious when I say that your statement is incomprehensible and lacks substance to be taken seriously. May I suggest going to an American College and then come back in 4 years and try to answer my question again. At that point I will answer the WHAT and WHY of your proclamation. My apologies again if I am wrong but feel free to grace us with your eloquence.

NorrinRad
There, I fixed it for you. See the quotes? That way people reading it won't get the false impression that you're bright enough to write something that pointed, professional and profound.

That's a little alliteration for you to attempt to replicate. I'll wait while you look that word up along with Racism and BP.

When quoting a piece of work one should attribute the work to the author with a citation. Otherwise it's plagiarism, theft or smacks of dishonesty. You'd never do that would you?

reply

I apologize again if you did not understand MY original statement. But I will post it again just in case your online translator is not working correctly. In America its impolite to steal someones quote from them even though they are the originator. I am not sure how it works in your Country but I would double check the laws of your governing body. I will also answer your WHO and HOW once you answer my WHAT and WHY to my original statement as stated above in the quoted statement. Also there is a fallacy in your statement that is incomprehensible. May I suggest you download Google Chromes online translator to help better understand what I am saying. Otherwise it can misconstrued as something else and we wouldn't want that to happen.

Bubbathegut,

I found this quote about you and for you from the Mad Titan himself:

"In time, you will know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail all the same. Dread it, run from it, destiny still arrives...Fun isn't something one considers when balancing the universe. But this does put a smile on my face."
Thanos

Yes this puts a smile on my face. Your quixotic quest at running, ducking and dodging is coming to an end.

Dread it, run from it, destiny still arrives....

reply

Destiny is yet a myth constructed by the elves of the wandering forest. My ability to duck, dodge, dive and dodge is truly astounding indeed.

Here is quote from a great man that once lived and is still living.

"Lucky Day: In a way, all of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!"

You sir are my El Guapo and I will rise up and be victorious!

reply

To which that same living icon quotes himself again: C.D. Bales

"Let's start with... Obvious: 'scuse me, is that your nose or did a bus park on your face? Meteorological: everybody take cover, she's going to blow! Fashionable: you know, you could de-emphasize your nose if you wore something larger, like... Wyoming. Personal: well, here we are, just the three of us. Punctual: all right, Delbman, your nose was on time but YOU were fifteen minutes late! Envious: Ooooh, I wish I were you! Gosh, to be able to smell your own ear! Naughty: uh, pardon me, sir, some of the ladies have asked if you wouldn't mind putting that thing away. Philosophical: you know, it's not the size of a nose that's important, it's what's IN IT that matters. Humorous: laugh and the world laughs with you. Sneeze, and it's goodbye, Seattle! Commercial: hi, I'm Earl Scheib, and I can paint that nose for $39.95! Polite: uh, would you mind not bobbing your head? The, uh, orchestra keeps changing tempo. Melodic: Everybody. He's got... Everybody [singing] The whole world in his nose!"
There's more where that came from...

El Guapo just means and is the Handsome Guy. But you knew that Amigo.

reply

I provided an example and now you are balking at a response because you have none.

The Miss America pageants are sexist because a man can't compete... See how silly that is?

There is a concept called "bona fide qualification" that makes it obvious there are times when discrimination is necessary. It's used mostly in employment. An airline can refuse to hire an unattractive flight attendant for this reason. Hooters can discriminate too. There are tons of examples.

If someone wants a black beauty contest, then they create it.

reply

What are your thoughts on Augusta National Golf Club? It was for white men only. Until recently blacks and women were finally allowed to join and play.

reply

Huh? What about Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis? Or are they just really pale blacks?

reply

They're obviously cast as the Tolkien white guys.

reply

"Tolkien"

very clever!

reply

*golf clap*

reply

Oh Bravo, sir...

Bra-friggin-vo!

I bow to you.

reply

Please point out the LACK of diversity in this film. Do you have an understanding of the definition of Diversity in and out of context that you are willing to share that supports your 2018 not 1918 statement?

reply

Bilbo Baggins being the token white character is kind of funny.

reply

Here, let me fix that for you.

Bilbo Baggins and Gollum being the Tolkien white characters is kind of funny.
Serkis and Freeman, and You're Welcome!

reply

Thanks for stealing my thunder, you reprobate.

reply

I humbly submit to you that I'm more of a rapscallion than a reprobate.

reply

Only a true scoundrel would say that.

reply

Just so that you know that I am no scallywag:

If you go back to about 2 months ago I used the Two Tolkiens bit then. Oddly enough you commented right after I did about Madea? https://moviechat.org/tt1825683/Black-Panther/5a0f37c9b74739001284acd4/Nobody-in-China?reply=5a11f57369b24100127fa4ec

reply

Look, just because I post here whenever I'm blackout drunk doesn't mean-- *passes out on desk*

reply

I had no idea that you thought I pilfered or stepped all over your **joke** until you clapped back with the scoundrel. Very polite way to try and call someone out. You've gained a tip 'o' the hat from me with a taunt that was at least linguistically clever.

Who cares if there is no diversity in this movie. I'm going to see it. And I'm a mix of white and Native American, so I'm not someone that is black defending a movie that has pretty much an all-black cast. I don't really pay attention to skin color that much anyway. Plus I like a ton of black actors, black YouTubers, black music artists (I listen to Rap too, which is mostly black people), and so on. And there are a few white people in the movie, that's IF you paid attention to the trailer at all (Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis).

I don't really know much about Black Panther and Wakanda either, but I'm pretty sure Wakanda is in Africa where lots of black people are and Africa is known to be a place where you'd find a majority of it's people to be black (not all though). So having diversity wouldn't really make sense. Mainly in Wakanda. Unless people leave and get married and bring their husband or wife back, who are of different race and stuff.

But as someone who is white and Native American, I'm fine with most of the main cast being all black. I don't need EVERY movie I watch to be PC and stuff. I just want to see Black Panther fight some bad guys.

reply

Nobody cares about white people anymore.

reply

the chinese sure don't and they are out to own the world.

then the blacks will cry

reply

People call out American movies for lacking diversity because America is a diverse country that often under-represents that diversity in film. This doesn't take place in America... so there's your answer.
