Does anyone here not think this show is funny?

I tried to watch a few times, but just don't get the humor. The cast is great, but the writing is really bad.

reply

Yup. Cut and paste sitcom dialogue. Terrible laugh track and everything. I couldn't watch 2 episodes.

reply

You just don't get the science writing intregrecies!

reply

Not trying to be rude, but I'm not sure what you're trying to say?

reply

Like if you don't understandf the writing you wont get it or think its funny so maybe this is not the show for you

reply

I'm pretty deep in nerd culture,so I get the jokes. I think the issue is more that I'm 41, and I'm aware that these are tired rehashings of the last 30 years of sitcoms.

reply

I think what really grinds peoples gears by the go nads is that Penny, Bernie and Amy are all WAAAAYYYY to hot and good to be with those three little weiners. All the guys do is bitch and whine and these hot women still have sex with them even thouigh the guys are awful to them.

Makes sense?

reply

Lol, that's a lot of movies and TV shows. Look at King of Queens. She was WAY out of his league.

reply

Yeah that is true. Used to love that show. She was super hot, but she was also pretty mean. She was DTF like 24/7 but wouldn't shy away from smacking him around a lot!

reply

captainbucky----Well, sorta makes sense...lol For me, it grinds me that they took a great, interesting concept of four socially inept guys who are geniuses in their fields and turned it into just another domestic family sitcom.

Leonard, Howard and Raj were hilarious while they were searching for love and failing miserably. Sheldon was brilliantly funny as a guy (in love with himself) who had no need for female companionship. Now they are all p#@@% whipped guys who are scared of their women.

There are still funny moments in the show. But nothing in the last few years has come close to the brilliant writing and originality of the first three seasons.

reply

Yeah I agree, but isnt that why Stuart is still around? LIke Raj and leonard were super creepy around women and expecially Howard. Howard was the worst. Now Howard is the normalist? Like he will have 2 kids a slammin ass wife a house, doesn;t live by Sheldon.... Weird right. All the guys are whipped and horrible at the same time. And Leonard just wont stop whining about Penny. You've already trapped her, take her to bed and enjoy a good thing.

But if none of them found a women by now would they all be pathetic like stuart>

reply

Yes, I sometimes think that they guys would be pathetic if they didn't have steady girlfriends by now.

But I think the girlfriends should have remained UNSEEN, like Mrs. Wolowitz. The show could have remained all about their antics and exploits. They'd mention their girlfriends, but we'd never see them on a date.

I just don't enjoy it when so many of the scenes are completely focused on Bernie, Penny and Amy. They aren't that funny. And I just do not see Penny being "besties" with Amy. Sure, Amy would want to hang out with a cool girl. But they have nothing in common. I often wonder what happened to all of Penny's friends from the first few seasons. She used to go dancing with her girlfriends. She used to have a bunch of friends over on Saturday to watch football. Now it appears that she gave up everything in her single life just to hang around the apartment with Leonard (and he's still insecure!).

reply

I agree !!

reply

This is exactly how I feel.

The writing was terrific in the first three seasons. I always got at least one good laugh out of every single episode. Then, as Bernadette and Amy were introduced, I didn't see myself smiling as much as I used to.

Since this is the last season, you figured the writers would be pulling out all the stops, but they just can't seem to make it work anymore like they did years and years ago.

Now it seems like more whining and complaining than anything.

reply

I agree these women are way too hot for them, but also the show (at least what I have seen of it) is laughably bad and the characters are beyond annoying. I have no idea how this became a hit.

reply

The women are way way to hot for them. I can understand why it became a hit, but now it is the complete polar opposite of what the show started as. Leonard is way way to whiney all the time

reply

[deleted]

Amys hot , i'd imagine , if you could get her out of all the cardigans and other wool wear.

reply

the first two seasons were great. After Bernadette and Amy came into the cast it went down.

@captainbucky.

Do you mean intricacies? Because it's hard to tell what you are saying. You really shouldn't talk down to people.

reply

Le what ?

reply

No laugh track. It's filmed before a live audience.

reply

I'm not sure if you know how that works, but they still add laugh tracks despite being filmed that way. Also, they prompt the audience to laugh with a sign.

reply

It sure is funny: the laugh track "tells" me so.

Seriously, the laugh track is brutally overbearing and is constantly injected into seemingly every other line, no matter how insipid.

This girl, nice kid but not especially learned, went nuts for this show and couldn't understand why I didn't. "It's smart dialogue" she would say, "You just don't get it". I said "I'll agree it _portrays_ "smart people", but the dialogue/writing is straight-up lame sitcom BS".

"Cut and paste sitcom dialogue". Nailed it.

reply

yeah... non funny show...

reply

Flicking channels saw a recent episode.
not funny, I didn't laugh, in fact repulsed by it. no science, maybe its too dumbed down, suppose after the inflationary period it just flattened out.

reply

try out the first two seasons. they are great. after that it went down.

reply

I like the show, but seriously, the laughter is fukin annoying. It happens almost after every line. I love some of their facial expressions and how they react to jokes, but other than that, I don’t understand the science stuff.

reply

Show's more cringey than funny if you ask me. I especially hate Sheldon with a passion.

reply

I watched some of the first season, but the show wasn't for me.

My mother loves it, though.

reply

I have never understood the fascination with this show or how anybody finds it humorous. Didn't someone once say "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the tastes of the American public"?

reply

H. L. Mencken: “Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public.”

More true now than it was when he wrote it.

reply

I'll get my geek on and paraphrase the tragic Matt Decker from Star Trek's "The Doomsday Machine" and say "It was (funny) but not anymore. The fans called and begged me for help but I could'nt........"

reply

I think the earlier seasons are funnier than the newer seasons.
