“So I’m afraid to say in this world that’s gone down the toilet in all aspects, I’m afraid the success of Taylor Swift—and again, God bless her work ethic, God bless her musical dreams—but that’s cartoon music,” Nugent said while making an appearance on The Joe Pags Show podcast.

He continued, “I mean, it doesn’t have any piss and vinegar. There’s no fire, there’s no sensuality in that. It’s all poppy nonsense, as far as I’m concerned. And it’s the most popular stuff in the world, which is an indictment to the music industry and music fans.”

Nugent said that fans aren’t “looking for that fire from a ZZ Top or from a Mitch Ryder in the Detroit Wheels, or from a Brownsville Station or an Amboy Dukes. And I miss that.”

“Thank God I’m still around,” he added.

Wolfgang Mozart died broke.

reply

Her daddy was a rock star named Pig Nugent.

It is quite ironic and humorous that the same man who released the album "If You Can't Lick 'Em...Lick 'Em" way back in 1987 is calling another artist's work, "cartoon music," especially with the title of track #7 below.
That song isn't exactly some "world changing deep intellectual track."

This album is a bunch of "love sounding song titles and poppy nonsense:"

1. "Can't Live with 'Em"
2. "She Drives Me Crazy"
3. "If You Can't Lick 'Em... Lick 'Em"
4. "Skintight"
5. "Funlover"
6. "Spread Your Wings"
7. "The Harder They Come (The Harder I Get)"
8. "Separate the Men from the Boys, Please"
9. "Bite the Hand"
10. "That's the Story of Love"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_You_Can%27t_Lick_%27Em..._Lick_%27Em

Nothing wrong with writing those types of songs but don't act like you're so above that, especially when you make an album cover like that, too.
Yeah, it's such deep art!
Lighten up, Ted!

Who is Ted Nugent? Never heard of him.

I am guessing another one trying to be relevant, and tail ride on Taylor Swift's fame.

People trashing her I think mostly because she has democrat leaning, because of her politics, that guy is no exception.

reply

Ok Gen Z, Ted Nugent is the last rockstar in the world trying to be relevant and doesn't need bubblegum popstar Taylor Swift's coat tails to ride on.. He was making music when she was nothing more than sperm in her father's dick

reply

Look, I am not a music fan, and I rarely listen to music, and even I know Taylor Swift.

From the fact I did not ever hear anything about Ted Nugent, it means he is a has been.

reply

The fact you're not a music fan means you don't know who Ted Nugent is and he's been around long before Taylor Swift ever decided to embark on a singing career

Ted Nugent "Stranglehold"

reply

Yeah, I just listened to it.

The guitar play is too long and is typical of rock music, the lyrics are hard to make out due to the overwhelming music, so I had to search for the lyric and read it while listening, and it is not impressive, very cliche rock type lyrics.

I don't think it is good enough by today's standards.

Do you remember the "Everybody Knows" song sang by Sigrid during the opening credit of 2017 Justice League movie, I was so impressed by that song I found and listened to the original, and I got the same feeling. The new version is so much better in my view.

That reinforced my opinion that not all the old rock legends are good enough today, both in the songs and the ways they are performed.

The music scene has evolved.

reply

Some musicians (rock or other) music take up a permanent place in culture and is listened to decades later.
Not by 'da kidz' who are busy listening to the latest manufactured shite obviously.

I dont think Ted Nugent has attained that status the way other rock legends have .
The bitching about it on his part is very unbecoming.

You might think Guns & Roses' "Paradise City" is noisy crap compared the the mumble rap or whatevers on the radio right now . But the song has "paid its dues" is loved by millions and will never fade.

btw , the "everybody knows" song gets tiresome once you've overplayed it , trust me .

reply

Some songs and musicians can stand the test of time, for example I only recently listened (paid attention) to Michael Jackson's "beat it", it is still a very good song.

It doesn't need to pay its dues.

Good music is good music.

reply

I disagree, I think Nuge is a legend. Is he on the same level as Clapton, Hendrix, Page? Probably not.

There's nothing wrong with catchy pop music. I like a few Swift songs, I think "Mean" is a great song, the rest of her stuff is a distant 2nd.

reply

Ted Nugent turned out to be a moron but he did make good music in the 70s and 80s. Here is an excellent example of Nugent's music.

reply

Another old guy yelling at "the music young kids listen to these days!"

reply

Oh JFC the kids who listened to Micheal Jackson 40 years ago are the kids who listen to Taylor Swift now. The hip kids are not listening to Taylor Swift just like they didn't listen to Michael Jackson 40 years ago.

reply

yeah , also It just comes across as bitter when its an old musician saying it .

reply

Because he's old, he's seen, heard, and done a lot more, which gives him a better perspective. What he thinks about popular music is more informed than the opinion of a young person.

reply

Music has become mostly a visual medium, people's eyes override their ears.

Swift is very, very "visual"...

Her popularity is mostly about her beauty (best legs ever?) not her music...and when it fades so will her sellout crowds.

Janis Joplin (no beauty) songs transcend generations, I really don't think Swift's will.

I could be wrong, what percentage of Gen Z has heard of Shania Twain?

"Video killed the radio star. Video killed the radio star. In my mind and in my heart, we can't rewind we've gone too far. Pictures came and broke your heart. Put the blame on VCR." ~ The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star

reply

Gen Z: "What's a Shania Twain?"

reply

It is not that, at least I don't think so.

Good songs are good songs.

There is this thing called "song cover" I found on youtube, some nobodies sing popular songs. One of them I heard is Taylor Swift's "blank space", covered by a youtube rock band called "Our Last Night", I still like the song when it was sang by a bunch of guys.

They also covered Justin Bieber's "Sorry", I thought that was pretty good too.

You know a good song when it is still good when other people sing it.

I listened to some of Selena Gomez's songs because she was so pretty, but none of songs was any good. The fact she was a singer confirmed what you said.

But I just don't think Taylor Swift is that.

reply

Speaking of cover songs, SInead O'Connor shaved her head because she wanted to be judged on her vocal performance, not her beauty

Do you think Swift would have sellout crowds if she did the same?

I am not saying that Swift does not have artistic merit, but beauty does play a role in her fame.

reply

It is pretty easy to find out, just see how many of her songs were covered.

Song cover is not about the looks.

reply

Covers can be about name recognition, not the quality of the song.

Hey I'm covering a Taylor Swift song
..what's ya think..will get a person noticed.

reply

That too, but you would notice not all her songs are covered.

It has to be a good song to be covered.

I don't think you would be able to find any of Selena Gomez's songs are covered.

Because of this discussion I just listened to Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and the "Our Last Night" cover again.

I am definitely not interested in Justin Bieber's looks, but that is just a great song.

reply

Covers is no more of an indication of artistic quality than how much money she's made.

reply

That would have been true if she did not write those songs.

Ted Nugent lyrics

I've got no inhibitions
So keep your keys out of your ignition
I steal a car like I got the curse
I can't resist the old lady's purse
Jailbait you look so good to me
Jailbait won't you set me free
Jailbait you look fine fine fine
I know I've got to have you in a matter of time
Well I don't care if you're just thirteen
You look too good to be true
I just know that you're probably clean
There's one lil' thing I got do to you
Jailbait you look so good to me
Jailbait won't you set me free
Jailbait you look fine fine fine
I know I've got to have you in a matter of time
So tell your mama that I'm back in town
She likes us boys when it's time to get down
She's got this craving for the underage
I just might be your mama's brand new rage
Jailbait you look so good to me
Jailbait won't you set me free
Jailbait you look fine fine fine
I know I got to have you in a matter of time
Honey you you you look so nice
She's young she's tender
Won't you please surrender
She's so fine she's mine
All the time, all mine mine
It's all right baby
It's quite all right I asked your mama
Wait a minute officer
Don't put those handcuffs on me
Put them on her and I'll share her with you
