The number of “how woke is this?” threads on the MovieChat board are becoming exhausting.

It feels like every new film or TV series has at least one thread complaining about “wokeness”, which is constantly bumped to the top by baiting, attacks and long, paranoid diatribes.

I wish MovieChat’s moderation team would prune these types of posts back a little. While a lot of people might engage with the site via squabbling (that’s the nature of the internet, I get it), it doesn’t add anything constructive to the forum. It’s just negativity.

Just don’t bother reading that nonsense…make a joke, have a few laughs, talk about your favorite movie and music, puns and word play are popular here too!

Just have fun and good luck, there are lots of fine and funny posters on MovieChat

I usually wouldn’t bother mentioning it if the posts weren’t so frequent and prominent on the site.

Judging by the responses in this thread (which prompted multiple reply posts), a lot of people seem to be heavily invested in identifying “wokeness”.

I never respond, but it’s still rather mind-numbing to read over and over again when you’re looking for some interesting discussions about cinema.

Complaining about a film being too woke is the equivalent of complaining a film isn't diverse enough.

reply

This thread is too woke and not diverse enough.

You missed the words wheelchair, trans and black.

Oh shit! I might get cancelled now😯

I see a thousand times more people bitching and moaning about "wokeness" than I see of the "woke" people they're complaining about.

spot on

We see what we wanna see.

And there you are!

I've written the MPA suggesting they add a woke rating to movies along side the parental motion picture ratings. W1 to W10. 1 being nothing and 10 being unbridled wokeness interfering with plot viewing pleasure.

Still waiting for a reply

reply

That's great. Prolly need a 'letter' campaign to make any noise at the MPA.

How woke is this thread?

put me down on the side of the ledger of people who hates woke messaging & who thinks that all areas of culture and politics - not just movies - are polluted with that pandering hyper-woke nonsense. it makes me sick, & i think it's something to be pushed back against with alacrity.

there is one poster here, & we all know who that is i'm sure, who's very troll-ish on the topic. i don't particularly like the way that guy operates, but i think he makes a lot of good points.

The way I see it is this, if Hollywood wants to make endless sequels/reboots/Superhero movies that's fine but expect people to complain endlessly about sequels/reboots/Superhero movies.

The same applies for the 'woke' argument.

When you try and silence people from expressing their views they will only express them more often.

I like reading the Anti Woke threads. I’m tired of the bullshit as well.

They aren’t even creative in how they spread their “message” either. I’ve seen shows where characters just deliver political speeches that have nothing to do with the show or plot.
