should Olympic athletes be suspended for smoking weed?

reply

I don't think so and perhaps they will change that rule in the future

As for this current runner who broke the rule they cannot make an exception...she stupidly broke a rule and that's that

reply

I just had this conversation with someone who was getting drug tested and smoked pot, he knew it stays in your system for up to 2 weeks. Its sad and a stupid rule, but as you say, its the rules.

reply

It is pretty stupid

But rules are rules

Maybe they will change the rules

reply

no

reply

Nope

reply

No.

reply

Yes you should be banned.

It reduces muscle inflammation, eases soreness and pain which will allow you train harder, longer and help with increased endurance.

It can help improve your sleep due to nerves so you will be more refreshed on the morning.

It helps with anxiety and can slow your heart rate down which will help with nerves and tension which would be very helpful in certain disciplines.

People only think of it as getting stoned but it has many qualities that will improve your performance so yes in certain circumstances it is a performance enhancing drug and yes should be banned.

IN the case of the American Athlete, she knew it was banned and did it anyway.

reply

sounds like i should be using it.

reply

Yes, especially since YOU should be banned according to sokar. I don't think you've been THAT bad.😕

reply

Nice condescending reply. How dare anyone disagree is that the mentality on this board.

The question was asked

should Olympic athletes be suspended for smoking weed?

I guess by the responses on here you can only reply if you are an expert.

You think being able to slow your heart beat has no athletic advantage. If so why are beta blockers banned also.

reply

I'm not entirely sure how your response relates to my comment?

reply

Hmm. Let me think.

YOU should be banned according to sokar.

You mentioned me specifically, so I replied.

You do realise how discussions work don't you.

reply

Well, normally in discussions, people comment on what was said. Maybe you could elaborate?

"You do realise how discussions work don't you."

Uhm, kind of hypocritical to accuse others of being condescending, don't you think? Seems to me my comment flew right over your head.

reply

Whats good for the goose.

You were happy to condescend me so I just returned the favour.

reply

You must've gotten up on the wrong side of the bed if you think I was being condescending to you in any kind of way.😕

reply

Reread the first line of your post

'Yes you should be banned'

Stratego was just having a bit of fun

reply

A simple typo that should have been blatantly obvious what was actual meant.

reply

Yes, a simple typo, we all do that

Stratego is a feisty one, she was giving hownos a good natured jab, not you

reply

That's exactly it, Shogie.👍

reply

It provided me with another good chuckle, Strat. ;)

reply

Phew. Thanks for saving my reputation!😅

reply

No worries, it's intact. You'll probably always be my favorite MC smart ass. ;)

reply

🤗😘

reply

Those all sound like good reasons why it should be allowed rather than prohibited

reply

Those are certainly some of the benefits. Have they decided if it causes lung cancer yet? The last I had heard there was still no evidence that it does.

reply

None of it looks like a serious basis for banning it.

Weed has some anti-inflammatory effects, but so has an Aspirin. It helps with anxiety and sleep, true, but so do (and much more) drugs that treat sleep and anxiety disorders. And as far as I know, those drugs are banned during competion, not during training.

It doesn't make sense to punish somebody because she smoke weed while she was training, while allowing her to take benzodiazepines, which are much stronger.

reply

while allowing her to take benzodiazepines

Maybe one day they will, but right now they are not and Marijuana is.

But currently it is a banned substance put down in the rules. She knew this and did it anyway. No one to blame but herself.

Sure, but that wasn't the question. The question was should Olympic athletes be suspended for smoking weed, plural. Not whether one particular athlete should be suspended, which she should since otherwise that'd mean law doesn't apply equally, but whether athletes should be suspended, in other words, whether the law banning weed during training is (or isn't) rational and coherent.

And I replied.

Yes without question.

reply

Doesn't alcohol also provide these benefits?

reply

Zero tolerance policy. So yes.

reply

Unless the drug rule is changed, then yes. She knowingly broke the rules.
