MovieChat Pet Peeves Of Yours?

Posts and/or posters. No need to name anyone who is still active here.

I wish there was more movie talk... I get tired of the gossip and trivia, and I don't like putting people on ignore, but the good posts get buried, so sometimes I have to. It would be nice if there were more movie thread ideas, as opposed to the simple stuff (which I have posted) like "Favorite thrillers" or "Top 10 Movies Ever?"

reply

1. all the racist posts
2. all the sexist posts
3. all the hateful, nasty, cruel posters
4. not enough movie discussion
5. too many stupid posts and comments

reply

You're a movie buff who is sincere and thoughtful. You've probably seen more movies than anyone else here. Try and create some movie topics? I promise, I'll answer.

reply

Alright, I will see what I can do.

ALLABY IS THE KING...BUT THE DUDE IS REALLY HANDSOME...BEING SO DESIRABLE TO WOMEN HAS TO HAVE SLOWN HIS VIEWING DOWN AT TIMES...I THINK I MIGHT HAVE HIM BY A NOSE.

I'm pretty sure you are much more handsome than me, Kowalski (but I appreciate the compliment).

Although I'm in disagreement with a lot of the ratings I see you give certain movies in the what have you watched this week threads. I can't help but be in awe of the amount of movies you watch. I wish I still had that hunger to watch so many. It's not that I don't have the time, it's just I feel Ive become disillusioned and jaded. But I'm striving everyday to get back in the swing of things. You are an inspiration, and I say that with complete sincerity.

reply

Thanks. I'm glad to be an inspiration. Happy movie watching! Are you on Letterboxd at all? I find it can be fun and helpful to rate, review and track the movies I watch on Letterboxd.

reply

I'm not. I should be. I'm just to slack. It would help me keep track of my movie habits though.

reply

LETTERBOXD IS CAKE...I PUT IT OFF FOR YEARS AND NOW REGRET IT...I ALSO FALL BEHIND IN MY REVIEWS...SOMETIMES BY WEEKS...THEN I CATCH UP...GOOD SITE WELL WORTH THE TIME.

- When I somehow double post.

- When your notification doesn't scroll down to the proper post.

- When someone brings up politics in a non-political post.

- When my thread gets bumped to the second page after only 15 minutes.

- When I reply to a post from 4 years ago that someone else bumped.

- When my search doesn't appear on the drop down window.

reply

There is certainly something gone wrong with that search feature lately. It's been frustrating me for 2-3 weeks now. It failed me several times today with 2 different movies. The first was a 1999 movie that actually was at the top of the drop down window and yet the board refuses to appear when I click on it. Just tried it again and still a no go.

reply

I can't tell you how many times I've had to Google "(movie name) IMDb" and then copy the numerical portion of the URL and copy it here.

reply

It seems to be getting worse. I've acquired another movie app, crackle, which seems to have a lot of films I've never heard of. Every movie I've entered today has failed to appear when I clicked on it, although it clearly shows in that drop down menu. If this doesn't get fixed, it could lead to more members leaving.

reply

Could you please let me know the names of these movies? I will pass the information along to Jim.

reply

Appreciate the response M5 but that's kind of asking a lot. I've always relied heavily on that feature, both before and after a movie. I would have to wade through several weeks of my posting history to compile that list. It would be like being loaded down with excessive homework over a holiday week end and I'm just not up for that. I'll just have to be satisfied with venting about it.

reply

Sorry for being unclear -- I didn't mean all of the movies over that 2-3 week period. That would indeed be excessive homework! I was only asking specifically about these two movies:

"It failed me several times today with 2 different movies. The first was a 1999 movie that actually was at the top of the drop down window and yet the board refuses to appear when I click on it. Just tried it again and still a no go."

The reason I ask about these two is that this is the first time I've seen a report of search results that appear in the drop-down window not working properly.

reply

Ok, much better homework assignment, lol. One that immediately comes to mind is, When Justice Fails (1999). I just tried it again, it was at the top of the drop down window, I clicked and it failed. I have a new Chromebook, purchased during the spring, and it performs beautifully everywhere else.

reply

Thank you.

reply

You're most welcome. Hope we can fix this.

Horizon 2019

reply

Thanks for providing this example, which seems to be part of the original search results problem where results presented after clicking on the magnifying glass icon or the "See more results..." link sometimes do not work.

In this case, the correct link can be found by entering Horizon 2019 into the search bar and clicking on the link that appears in the drop-down list.

reply

Here are a couple more from me, M5, if it helps in pinning down the problem. This morning, I was unable to get the 1975 and 2015 versions of the movie, Of Mice and Men. The 1992 version came up instantly.

reply

It definitely helps to have more examples, so thanks again for taking the time to provide this information.

reply

No problem. Another one from this morning was, Frank the Bastard (2013).

reply

the search engine has been wonky for months mostly for new movies.

reply

That hasn't been my experience.

reply

it could also be happening to older movies which haven't had any posts in years.

reply

It is. I've had at least two now from 1999 where they appeared in the drop down menu but I couldn't get to the board. It seems to be very arbitrary.

reply

I just searched Black Widow and had no trouble...I even left a stupid post just as a test, no issues

reply

what i noticed is new movies/tv shows with no posts, you have to try it several times before getting access.

reply

The try again approach worked for me for awhile also. And the magnifying glass icon worked at first. Now, neither do. I used to be able to get movies as recent as this year, with no rating applied. That's why I see it as getting worse.

reply

I'm always on a phone, are you guys laptop users?

reply

laptop

reply

This Apple phone gives me no trouble...this is in NO way an advertisement for Apple...

reply

i love bumping old threads.

reply

I enjoy it also.

Just the not agreeing with her part. Trust me I know, I got bruises.

The first thing that comes to mind could apply to all message boards: People who ask questions that could be easily answered with a simple Google search.

yes

People want to discuss on a you know, discussion board.

This is my only favorite joint and I lurk like a spider all day but those are reasonable complaints

The Mods seem to catch some shrapnel sometimes and that's not cool, they are unpaid volunteers and do a good job in general

I do wish we had more quality posters here on MC...We seem to have a good mix but we are lacking in numbers

reply

Totally lacking in numbers. I mean there are only like 4 people here and all of their socks.

reply

I think we have more than 4 posters here love, I've recently gone to the mattresses with three or four of this lot for acting fresh...We have a nice crew of regs, I just wish there were more quality posters

Anyway, you are swell and sweet👍

reply

It was a joke....but it does seem like there are more socks here lately.

reply

I get it, we have picked up some oddballs lately, this site is pretty important to a lot of us, we will best them Lady

reply

WE NEED FOUR OR FIVE MORE KOWALSKIS.

reply

I'm not sure I could type in all-caps in the case of a KOWALSKI takeover!

Maybe one KOWALSKI is all we need here

reply

that's not true at all.

reply

Okay, okay.....there are 5 of us. 🤣🤣

reply

most of the posting goes on in the individual boards.

reply

I am just joking around you know.

reply

see my update.

a pet peeve of mine is people crapping all over mc. i know you were joking.

This is all that there is

Anyone takes a wizz on MC we take the air out of them fast, no conversation

MC is the best of the lot

reply

So I'm not allowed to joke?

reply

sure you can as long as they are funny.

reply

No idea where all this hostility is coming from. I thought it was funny. Sorry if you didn't. Seriously what the hell? I thought we were cool.

reply

we are cool.

reply

SAMOANJOES.

My mom still loves me.

That's not true, she doesn't.

reply

😀I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD SEE THAT...LOVE YA BUDDY.😘

reply

She loves me.

Dad?

reply

Checks in the mail I swear.

reply

Absolutely all of what Allaby said. I recently put 2 posters on ignore for the first time ever and the board seems tidier and not as chaotic. It's like a breath of fresh air.

reply

this is a pretty cool joint. i've seen lots, lots worse. and at least we have a bit of moderation.

peeve: all the marvel, kid stuff. just not my thing, don't take any of it seriously. its like arguing over minute flavor variations of cotton candy. and the bad puns. and australians, in general. and canadians, excluding the maritimes.
