On the 11th HOUR tonight they explained how This is all a DESPERATE effort on the part of the TX GOVERNOR to try and DIVERT ATTENTION AWAY from the way people have to PAY THOUSANDS of DOLLARS to their ELECTRIC CO. for the WEEK that the weather stayed BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES.

So by letting people run around MASK-LESS again, he thinks they're going to forget about having had their BANK ACCOUNTS CLEANED OUT and/or not being able to pay those ELECTRIC BILLS (which will also mean people won't have any HEAT or POWER again due to the way MOST of the heating in TX also comes from ELECTRICITY).

In other words, this SCAM that he's trying to pull is also NOT going to work because people who got those $17,000 BILLS are also going to STAY PISSED.

Louisiana and Mississippi are doing it, too. It's still too soon. This will only prolong the pandemic.

It's like breaking a leg. You must wear a cast until the bone has healed properly. Yes, it's uncomfortable and inconvenient. But you don't go and remove the cast after a couple of days unless you want to end up breaking the bone again or having it heal in a crooked position. A bit of inconvenience in the beginning pays off in the long run.

Or putting a bandage on a cut. You don't rip off the bandage before the cut heals because you are "tired of it." This only reopens the wound and sends you back to square one.

It's all part of the "I expect instant gratification" mentality.

I still see pop-up ads for cruise lines and resorts. Anyone who signs up for this stuff is just tempting fate. Go ahead and book a cruise... just don't complain when you have to spend two weeks in quarantine.

There was even some "spring break deal" which popped up a few days ago. Are the college campuses even open? Spring break should be the last thing on their minds.

reply

Except for the few cruises sailing in Europe and Asia, no cruises are sailing right now including US ports and nobody is even sure when they will start up in N America. Yes cruises are being sold, but that has been happening since last March - people book and then they're canceled by the cruise lines for refunds or future cruise credits - usually at 125%. It's a game being played by the cruise lines to stay afloat and customers willing to gamble on the future.

reply

I've seen ads for Disney resorts and Universal Orlando, which are in the U.S. Anyone who goes there is taking a big risk.

reply

Outdoors - absolutely no problem for me - I went to KIng's Island last October and have a season pass for this year - plan to be there on opening day in May. Universal has a lot of indoor "rides", so I would probably avoid that for now, but I think it's is a personal decision to go or not.

You can criticize their policy, but that's precisely the one critic that doesn't make sense.

What prolongs the pandemic is social distance and masks, since that reduces transmission and slows down the progression, so it takes longer to reach herd immunity. You could argue that this is a better policy so the health system is less collapsed and the mortality ratio is lower. But arguing that it prolongs the pandemic? It's quite the opposite.

reply

Perhaps, but there will be more deaths by the public not protecting themselves and each other which is what we are trying to avoid right?

reply

Has it been two weeks already?

Those stupid f_ckers are going to be in for a big shock. WTF man.

reply

are you calling Texans Stupid ? cause this decision wasn't made by a Vote and the majority of us will continue to wear mask so watch your Mouth John

reply

No way Texans are stupid. I never thought of that once. I prey most people will keep their masks on. And I think they will. And don't tell me to watch my mouth, Taz? Whatever the fu_k that is.

reply

Our restrictions have been pretty lax in Louisiana throughout this last year. I never stopped working but I always wear a mask inside public places.

reply

I look at it this way, by wearing a mask maybe I might be saving a life.
You never know.

reply

Same here.
