C is for Corpse. By Sue Grafton

reply

To Kill a Mockingbird- Harper Lee
In Cold Blood - Truman Capote
The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell

reply

Absolutely! I re-read In Cold Blood and To Kill a Mockingbird about 15 years ago. I am way overdue to reread Nineteen Eighty-Four.

reply

1984 is a favourite.

reply

Believe it or not, I went all through school without "To Kill a Mockingbird" ever being on a reading list. I finally read it about five years ago and it has become my favorite book.

I like "Herman" by Jim Unger.

1. The Stand - Stephen King
2. The Witching Hour - Anne Rice
3. The Lord of the Rings trilogy
4. Songs of Earth and Power - Greg Bear

reply

The length of The Witching Hour always put me off, I enjoyed reading her early Vampire Chronicles though.

reply

I LOVE long books and as far as I'm concerned, it's the best thing she's written. 🙂

reply

Having not read that series, it made it harder for me to enjoy the later Vampire Chronicles as much. I regret not reading the first, I bought it at one point but never got round to reading it.

Are you watching the new miniseries?

reply

The Guinness Book of Records 1992.

reply

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

reply

The Hobbit is excellent, great entertainment and some fine themes
Four times I've read it already and I'm due for another

reply

Tolkien certainly achieved something impressive with it, given that it's still being read and discussed despite it having been more than 80 years since it was first published.
Tonally and thematically it is something of a blueprint for many fantasy novels that have come since.
