Anything by Charles Dickens. Everyone should read at least one book by Charles Dickens.

reply

I’ve read A Tale of Two Cities. It was referenced in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan so that motivated me.

reply

I am way overdue to revisit and reread some Dickens. It's on my mind because I recently saw "The Man Who Invented Christmas."

reply

I recommend Bleak House and Our Mutual Friend. David Copperfield and Little Dorrit are also in my top five, followed by A Christmas Carol. I also really love A Tale of Two Cities and Our Mutual Friend. I’m not very fond of Great Expectations, though.

That movie borrowed quite a bit from Moby Dick; for example, Khan's line "from Hell's heart I stab at thee" is lifted directly from Ahab's last words just before Moby kicks his ass. I don't know if that alone justifies reading Moby Dick, it's a long book. But if the Trek connection intrigues you, you might want to give it a glance someday.

The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright. They tried to make this into a TV series - it didn't work. Great book.

reply

Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

The Last Werewolf by Glenn Duncan

Pretty much the ONLY werewolf novel you’ll ever need to read. It’s outstanding.

the life you can save by peter singer

Why only one????? 😁

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

reply

I mostly read trashy romances, but Grafton is my favorite author. She's very underrated.

reply

I've been reading a lot of cozy mysteries this year. I just don't want to read anything heavy, but even though All the Light is a heavy read, I loved it and have read it a couple of times.

reply

I am biased and only read fantasy. so The rune lords (first four books) by David farland. and "The Wheel of time" by Robert Jordan
