I noticed that YouTube is laggy now but I'm not turning Adblock off, no way. I'd rather it perform a little slow than sit through unskippable ads every minute..

Seems I have found a trick on my laptop that if you pause adblock....it will get around CPU cycles and still skips the ad!

i've used it for years & i see little difference now from when i started.
it is loaded with nonsense that i love. no budget horror. mopey indies.
i pay for 6 services & i use tubi more than all of them combined.

i used to time the duration of commercials during movies,
sometimes it would be 3 minutes total, sometimes 5 or 6 minutes - which isn't bad at all...
but then it got upwards to 8 or 9,
then it started going over 10 minutes per movie and i ejected

i agree that the ads have increased. i'm not sure if it's 10 minutes. that seems high. i've never timed it, but the ad inserts usually are no more than a minute for me, and there are usually no more than 4 or 5 in a 90m feature.

perhaps it's a little different in canada (where i am).

even if it is 10m, considering the content you get for free, i don't consider that a heavy lift. weekly, sometimes more often, i find something i'd never heard of that i like/love/or is so incompetent & stupid that it's awesome.

edit: because i'm vaguely ocd-ish, i'm going to time the ads on the tubi movies i watch today, lol.

i just watched a 98m movie on tubi with my stopwatch on my phone at the ready.

there were 4 breaks, each one about 20m apart. three of them were 60 seconds, one was 30 seconds.

so 3.5 minutes of ads in a free full length movie.

& that feels pretty standard. i'm watching another movie that's about 100m right now. i'm tracking that one too cuz i'm annoying like that. & i'm watching it with my vpn set to the u.s. to see if there's any difference.

edit: just finished. the movie had fewer breaks with my vpn set to the us.

three breaks, & two of them were only 15s each. the other was a full minute.

so 90 seconds of ads in a 100m movie. crazy.

if we want to discuss lousy streamers, plextv is really bad in my experience. they insert tons of ads & they are long breaks.

i watched a 20m short a few months back & they had two breaks that ran about 3m each.

that service stinks & unless it has something i really want to see that isn't anywhere else, i do my best to avoid it.

Current reality is that my AdBlock works by pausing it and stops the YouTube cycles. Works for me!

Maybe if they weren't fascistic towards their content creators... I wouldn't have cancelled my Premium account.

What youtube needs to do is offer an ad free experience for a nominal fee. Their current premium is $14/mo for features I won't use. I'm not paying that just so I don't see ads. However, I would pay $3/mo for it. I'm betting others would too. Not sure if that makes sense for their financials, though. We'd have to know the details to figure out the lowest price point they could go to earn the same as they make from ad revenue.

Look, I hate commercials and ads all over every website I visit. YouTube is very high on that list, and frankly, my life on the web improved soooo much when I got ad-blockers. The websites look clean and quiet now, including this one. I don't care one bit if they need the money. It's not my problem.

The only reason I put up with the commercials when watching YouTube on my Roku is because I haven't figured out how to block commercials on there too. Only option is paying them $10 a month to go ad-free, and I'm not ready to do that just yet.

Plus, my computer got an upgrade last year, so the CPU thing isn't an issue for now.

If I try to comment on YouTube my keyboard locks up.
I cannot comment anymore and if I do try my keyboard freezes, even when I close YouTube , the keyboard stays.

I was actually going to send you tube an email saying they were really messing up my phone.

I would wait the 10 seconds. But this freezes until I get a massage saying the app stopped working, wait or close. There was a article the other day where it said companies will start being. More diverse by adding people with intellectual disorders and psychiatric disorders.

Wait, there are ads on YT? Never seen those before... Jokes aside, never had an issue with ads until only recently for a short while before it was all addressed and fixed. Also, it's not YT that's frying or rather slowing the view stream but the adblocker itself from a recent update which has already been addressed in a upcoming update.
