"Obi-Wan is weak" isn't a valid criticism

Some of you have no depth or understanding of how stories are told. Ob-Wan didn;t just beat Anakin, he mutilated him. He left him with little more than a torso and 100% was left was melted into mush.

He then disappeared, stopped using the Force, and then finds out he's not only alive, but a terminator that has been doing the Empire's dirty work for 10 years; all while he's stopped using his abilities. Go take karate, BJJ, or hell even just lift weights frequently Dedicate years to it then stop for a decade. You'll be terrified and gasping for air if you get into a situation you have to defend yourself. His current situation makes complete and total sense.

Not to mention, Jedi's abilities going in and out - as their confidence wanes - is WELL-ESTABLISHED in this franchise.

Absolute morons making this argument.

reply

Wrong! It is very valid criticism and a plot hole. And when did jedi's ever practice karate or do any weight lifting?

reply

Except wrong. I studied Chinese martial arts avidly for many years then quit for at least 10 and came back very close to the top of my game. I did stay in good overall shape during the break however.

reply

Does it get old staying in character all the time?

reply

I am today stopping my karate lessons and will resume them on June 9th 2032. We shall see in 10 years how much the lay off affects me. I'll let you know

reply

He had the high ground!

reply

I love watching you retard NPC's argue about some mass-produced BS Disney made up for you to consume, so funny.

reply

I had to google what NPC means because I am not 12 and don't speak this language. You aren't in a position to make fun of what anyone else likes.

reply

The term "NPC" has been around since the 1970s.

reply

You need another lobotomy, the first one didn't work.

reply

Just call me McMurphy

reply

If you don't care about mass produced Disney -BS , then why are you even on this board?

reply

Don’t bring common sense to a Star Wars forum.

reply

There are things about this show that annoy me, but "WhY cAn'T HE FiGhT?!" has no merit whatsoever.

reply

Aside from those that are just trolling, I wonder how much life experience some of these critics have.

Are they not familiar with PTSD or being out of shape?

reply

How dumb or delusional can someone be? I bet they are the kind of person who hasn't done anything physical in years and think they can go out and run an 8 minute mile or get into a fight no problem.

reply

Nice trolling bro, although it's kind of stupid and unoriginal.

reply

What arguments are you talking about? Yours?

So he stopped using the force so he is not detected by ... Vader (Anakin) ... then he acts surprised that Vader is alive? Makes sense.

So he stops using the force for 10 years so he is older and weak and lacking confidence and everything but in ANH although he is older (10 more years) and he is supposed to still hide (specially now that Vader is even more eager to find him) he has NO problems using the force or being confident. Ahem, makes a LOT of sense.

Al while Yoda is on Dagobah using the force as he pleases and having no problems to keep his force powers in control ...

Yeah, your arguments make so much sense. Not.

reply

Yeah but Yoda was low key and only used The Force to rotisserie hotdogs so you see it all kind of ties in and makes sense.

This of course may change with the upcoming show Yoda: The Dagobah Years, where we see Yoda reunite with Yaddle and has a family, but because Yoda kept cutting himself off from The Force while continually drinking the bog juice he had performance issues and Yaddle and the family end up leaving him. However, after discovering "the cave", he force projection battles the Emperor in another draw rising back to his former self.

reply

Hey, better written than Obi Wan Kenobi. Even than The book of Boba Fett, congrats!!

reply

go play fallen order and you'll see how jedi must rebuild their connection to the force in order to gain access to their abilities. For Obi wan who is a master it would not take very long at all to rebuild this connection and 10 years (I'd say more like 20 years given his age in ANH and his age in OWK, but that's beside the point) is arguably more than enough time to use the force again. It's no different from the concept of muscle memory in weight lifting or martial arts: The more trained you were previously, the quicker you'll rebuild your previous levels of stamina, endurance, strength, technique, etc.

reply

Dagobah was a planet that has a strong connection to the force. As such it is a great hiding place because no one can really differentiate the planet from Yoda. He can use the force and any one looking would just think it is the planet's connection.

reply

I think the Empire could work that out for themselves and expect that Jedi might use it for cover.

reply

So is using the Force like lifting weights? You get weak if you stop for a while?

Because Rey was juggling boulders with little practice. Seems like it's more mental than physical.

reply

A professional athlete in the midst of their career can go through a slump.

The Phillies went out and signed some hitters this off season: Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. Schwarber has come around, but Castellanos is still hitting poorly. These are guys in the prime of their careers.

And you think someone who stopped doing something for a decade can't struggle with it? Frankly, it's baffling to me this seems like an outlandish idea.

reply

Agree with you , Obi Wan pretty much stopped being a Jedi when he went in to hiding to protect Luke, he is reluctant to use the force in case he is discovered.

reply

It's blowing my mind how dense people are being about this.

reply

Regardless, you either have the force or not. Its not something you have to practice. Obi Wan should not be this weak compared to Vader. Its a plot hole and very lazy writing.

By the way, you are the guy who didn't even want them to meet in the first place. What a boring series this would have been

reply

"Its not something you have to practice."

reply

I get that, but Obi Wan was already at that level where he had the force mastered. Anyways, how boring would this series be if Obi Wan and Vader didn't meet?

reply

You stay the same skill level your whole life?

Why would it be boring? The only action Obi Wan can see his entire life is against Vader?

reply

The only worthwhile action for Obi Wan is against Vader. Who cares if he battles the sand people or bullies the jawas around. Obi Wan was a bad ass in A New Hope, so its expected that hes also a bad ass in this series

reply

No he's not, LOL. He's a faded old man.

reply

Dont entertain this guy he likes attention , his act is getting rather boring

reply

I'm familiar with his "plot hole act". I'm not sure why he refuses to break character, but this is one of the only instances I've seen him somewhat attempt a conversation.

reply

These are all people training to get to master level though. Obi-Wan was a Jedi Master on the high counsel, he is a Jedi at the highest level with only maybe a handful of characters more powerful. I get that he would be a little rusty I guess, especially with swordplay, but his force abilities should be fine.

The one precedent that is established is Luke Skywalker in the Last Jedi. He was a Jedi Master who cut himself off from the Force, but after reconnecting only after a couple days he is able to Force project himself across the galaxy, though he is one of the most powerful characters or supposed to be I guess. I get what you're saying, but I disagree that it's well established for Masters. It's well established that to get to be a Jedi Master you need to train.
