Nothing. This movie killed Mutt, made Indy senile, (probably) permanently separated from Marion AND had his goddaughter humiliate him at every turn.

3 of the 4 things you wrote are factually untrue. I suggest you see the film, or at least read an accurate synopsis before posting. Yes, Mutt is said to have died in Vietnam, which is a powerful, believable, and well-conceived plot point. The other three things are completely wrong. Watch the movie.

I did watch it. OK, so Indy still had his marbles but is very old, but at the start, Indy WAS separated from Marion (we see the form) and it's only at the end that she comes back to him, and his goddaughter DOES mostly treat him poorly, like mocking him because he believes artefacts should be in museums (good for him) while all she wants to do is sell them to pay her bail.

I just don't like Helena Shaw! Got it?

In part because people wanted one final Indiana Jones adventure. After all, you can make the same case for many, if not most, films in a franchise. Harrison Ford is very old, and he had one Indy film left in him, and thankfully he made it for us.

I think more significantly-- Crystal Skull is a very poor film. While it does what you say-- gives Jones a wife and child-- it doesn't do so in a particularly enjoyable or effective way. A strong case could be made that it tarnished the franchise, and it certainly was not a fitting end to a beloved character.

Despite what the contingent of people who were prepared to hate this film no matter what say, Dial of Destiny is actually a very good Indiana Jones adventure movie, and it far exceeds Crystal Skull in pretty much every way imaginable. It earns its happy ending for Jones in a way that its predecessor did not, and it puts a true bow on what has been one of the most beloved and enjoyable film franchises of my lifetime.

Really? Which people? The fans did not even ask for something as shitty as Chrystal Skull. Hollyweird was just trying to milk the cash cow one more time because of their lack of original ideas.
The fun is: There are thousands of brilliant and original movie ideas, all secretly hidden in books! Maybe they should start to fight against illiteracy in Hollyweird?

Agreed. Now THAT is the experience that I had in the theater. Seems to me that the haters didn't bother actually watching the film and are taking pot shots at it because they dislike Disney and Kathleen Kennedy. I also dislike Disney and Kathleen Kennedy, but that's not going to prevent me from enjoying this final Indiana Jones adventure.

I'm very anti-Disney, and dislike what Kennedy has done to the company, but I keep an open mind. It really does seem that a large percentage of the people bashing the movie haven't seen it-- they are boycotting it no doubt-- and are posting made-up reviews based on what they've heard about the film, or what they think might be in the film.

It wasn't, not really anyway, but it did supply a little bit better adventure for him than Crystal Skull did. I just think its coming too late.

It at least succeeds in being better than Crystal Skull. That film was such a massive misfire that going into Dial of Destiny my primary thought was, "Please be better than Crystal Skull." It was.

The true send-off for Indy was in TLC. But at least Dial allows the character to go out in a solid, well-made film rather than a movie that made fans gnash their teeth and tear their clothes in grief.

Star Wars fanboys said the SAME thing about Star Wars at the time The Force Awakens came out: "Man, after that AWFUL prequel trilogy, I was SO worried they screw this up, but NOPE! They learned their lesson and gave us a REAL Star Wars movie like we had from our childhood. They've obviously learned their lesson from the prequels and now we can look forward to a bright future for Star Wars and blah blah blah...."

Now, those SAME Star Wars fanboys retroactively claim that Disney "ruined" Star Wars and that the Force Awakens was 'soulless' and the prequel trilogy was at least creative and "did something different".

Makes you wonder if they'll be cursing out Dial of Destiny a decade from now...

Ford is too old now to ever reprise the role, so we'll never see a SW-esque trajectory, at least not with him in the lead. They would essentially have to reboot the franchise. If they do that will they ultimately ruin it? Probably. My guess is it was James Mangold that kept Dial from being a total dumpster fire.

As for Star Wars, I never had the hate for the prequels that many did. Revenge of the Sith is one of the best movies in the whole series and AOTC I think is misunderstood. I would definitely rather re-watch the Prequel Trilogy than anything Disney cooked up, save perhaps for Rogue One, which was pretty good.

My biggest problem with Force Awakens was that it simply felt bland and boring. But then TLJ openly disrespected the OT and the fandom. And then JJ was left trying to put the pieces of a shattered franchise together by the end.
