Should there have been a black "Friend"?
If it were made today there would have been.
Blacks are about 13% of the American population. One sixth is about 17%.
It seems only logical one of them would have been black. So why not?

Give it a rest. The producers did try to bring a few black characters into their lives. Charlie being one of them.
shareGive it a rest? As if there are 20 threads on this topic?
Personally I think all white shows are fine. White people tend to hang out with white people.
It's just a rhetorical question.
If you weren't sentient in the 90's, folks were just as "woke" then as they are now. It was called "pc" political correctness.
You have a point, Woke was most definitely a thing in the 90's. Saved by the Bell was extremely woke in its time but now is being punished for being too problematic by recasting the reboot with all Transgenders. It just goes to show the woke will always eat their own.
shareDo these people complaining ever stop to think that maybe certain types of people weren’t included on the show because the story didn’t call for it?
Also, there have been black people featured on Friends in several episodes.
I don't get it. Is Chelsea black?

Speaking of diversity I would have preferred lesbians. Black lesbians would be ok too.
shareI always thought Chandler was a rather useless character. He could have been replaced by a black lesbian.
shareMonica and Rachel are trans, does that count?

Dude, that is legit hilarious. But thanks, I have a friend who believes this stuff. I wanna show him this. 🤣
sharecheck out this one too!

Can I ask you if you believe this? It seems almost like a parody of right wing conspiracy theories.
shareCom'mon man! this pic of Cameron Diaz shows an Adonis belt. that can only happen on a man!

...For the famous ones like in Hollywood, and music industries, they actually convert them very early in the womb using hormone blockers. And, then for the rest of their youth, they give them intense hormones of the opposite sex, and it really works well for a long time. But, as they get older, the hormones have less and less of an effect. They worship the dual sexxed Baphomet goat god, and feel they get closer to their goal by crossing the gender spectrum. These hollyweirdos have been doing this for decades, and it's actually quite obvious if you know what to look for.
Some men can't come to grips with it because they feel like they've been had, or possibly lusted after these transformers, and are unconsciously embarrassed to admit it to themselves. Are you aware that in olden times, for many years men used to admittedly dress up, and play the parts of women themselves because they felt they could do a better job than the women? Well, this is just a more sophisticated/modern version of that same point of view.
Now, knowing what you know now, take a look at Pink at the beach, and still tell me you think this is female:

Clearly he believes it!
shareA classic case of paranoid delusions. Yes, there's a lot of hidden closeted people, but not everybody. The video creator needs help, he's in denial of his own desires.
shareNo.
Bye.
The kneejerk hostility to the idea on this thread is very telling.
shareI son't think you need to think about the question too long. If you see everything through the lens of race then the answer is yes. If you don't then the answer is no.
share☝🏾
shareUhuh. Explain the hostility though.
sharePeople are tired of this endless race baiting. Most people are just trying to live their lives.
shareHere it is again.
This is not "race baiting". I have no problem with the all white cast of Friends. Lol. But I know that if it were made today the cast could not be all white. It's a legitimate topic to be discussed rationally.
I'm not sure why white folks are seeing race baiting where there is none - unless they are racists.
So I'm a racist now? The leftists need to look that word up otherwise it is in danger of losing it's potency.
You started this thread, you must have known what the outcome was going to be. The definition of baiting.
I agree that they would have to have a more diverse cast if they made it today. Only because idiots like you would be frothing over their smoking keyboards if they didn't. Would we be the better off? Well let me ask you this, which of the original cast would you fire because of the colour of their skin?
Lol. If you actually read the thread you'd see I'm against changing this or any cast for race diversity. I just have a knack for starting threads which really explore a topic. It's just a hypothetical and yet angry white males are getting angrier.
shareThere is no reasoning with this troll. He’s totally race-baiting, and he’s not above calling you a racist if you disagree.
shareBlacks were 11% of the population in the 1990’s and 13% today. Not a big difference.
But given how the characters grew up, with the exception of perhaps Phoebe...who would have black friends? Rachel? She came from a rich family. Ross and Monica? They went to school with Rachel so they were upper middle class as well. Chandler too came from a relatively affluent background and worked a well paying job downtown. Joey? From a blue collar Italian-American background? Not likely either. That only leaves hippy free spirit Phoebe.
So where would they encounter black people enough to strike up long term friendships with them? They just didn’t have the cultural and socio economic contact with them.
Despite this thread's spammer and his obstructive trolling, I actually don't believe there needed to be a black character among the 6 Friends. I merely broached the topic because it's a relevant one. Not every group of friends has a token black.
And as I said before, most whites hangout mostly with whites, and most blacks hang out mostly with blacks. So the casting of 6 white actors was entirely appropriate.
My point here is that if it was cast today, one character would have definitely been black.
Also, here where I live, in Los Angeles, the population is more diverse. So any large group of friends is usually multi-racial.
Today it would be mandated lol
shareWhat, exactly, makes it relevant?
shareIt's relevant because no show featuring the interplay of six single major characters would be all white in 2022.
shareBased on? Networks desire to appease demands for "representation"? In real life, people of all ethnicities tend to hang out mostly with their own.
shareI agree with you. And for the same reason that the regular cast of a show like "Living Single" was all black.

AWESOME FUCKING ANSWER...THEY COULD NOT BE BLACK BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO WELL OFF...JESUS CHRIST.😐
shareI've heard "woke" people actually use that argument. I once heard someone say that hockey is racist because it's too expensive for people of colour. That's a fancy way of them saying they think non-whites are poor.
shareTAKE AWAY A SMALL PORTION FOR UNTENABLE HARDSHIP AND THE TRUTH IS...YOU ARE ONLY AS POOR AS YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE AND ONLY AS RICH AS YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE...SKIN COLOR,NEIGHBORHOOD,SEXUAL ORIENTATION,GENDER,HAIRSTYLE,POLITICAL VIEWS,ADVANTAGES OR SILLY PANTS JUST DO NOT REALLY MATTER.
shareHockey is in fact a very expensive sport and very hard to get access to if you are poor.
