One of the most offensive comedies I've seen.

Racist jokes. Homophobic jokes. Sexist jokes. Pedophilia jokes. Colonialism jokes. Abortion jokes. Suicide jokes. Religion jokes.

Can't tell if trolling or serious.

If you're serious, it's called "satire".

To quote the great Sgt Hulka: "Lighten up Francis"

reply

I don't think you know what that word means.

reply

Yep, it's fantastic!

reply

Looks like you picked the wrong week to watch classic comedies.

reply

Hedy's right, this is a classic comedy and not offensive in any way - unless one finds anything and everything offensive. Silly? Sure, but after all these years it's considered a classic.

reply

That's HEDLEY!!

reply

Oh, sorry.

reply

@strntz are you familiar with the reference to Blazing Saddles that HedleyLamar made with the "That's HEDLEY"? response?
Not judging, just curious.

People didn't have thin skins then. Now none of this would fly. It was a different time.

reply

You really, really need a life if you're searching 40 years old movies for jokes that offend you.

reply

And I loved it! I watched it again the other night and laughed all over again. The second one is hilarious too! 😊😁

reply

The second one is shit mate. The first one is glorious. They don't make stuff like it anymore sadly. It's all smart funny stuff by Judd Apatow.

reply

Oh lord, I am not a Judd Apatow fan. Awww, no way! How can you say that about the second one. William Shatner alone made it awesome! 😁

reply

I would have liked the sequel if it just had new jokes. LOL!

It's all the same jokes. I never understood why they made it if it was just the same as the first one. I suppose that's why they called it "Airplane II: The Sequel". Yep, it sure is. haha...

Shatner was okay in it though. He at least made it kind of funny and gave it a Sci-Fi feel.

In regards to the OP, it would be hard to make this film today but that's why it's so liked, its political incorrectness on steroids. At least by today's standards it is but back in the 80s we would have laughed at anyone that found it offensive. My, my... how times have changed.

reply

+1 for Shatner!

reply

+1,000,0000 for those courageous directors out there who will stop allowing themselves to be intimidated into not making hilarious movies like these once again

reply

The Zucker boys would say, Thank You!

reply

It's amazing, isn't it!
Love that movie.
