Do some people really worship Satan?

As in for real, as if he was a God, including incidentally even many normal people who are officially religious, known as Satanists, thanks. :)

In high school when I was going through my angsty-teen years, I bought The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey. I thought it was an edgey thing to do.

It had nothing to do with worshiping some Christian fairy tale. It turned out to have some pretty practical advice for living life.

I no longer have the book but from the Wikepedia article:

The prologue to The Satanic Bible begins by discussing the concept of gods, good and evil, and human nature. It includes the Nine Satanic Statements:

Satan represents indulgence, instead of abstinence!
Satan represents vital existence, instead of spiritual pipe dreams!
Satan represents undefiled wisdom, instead of hypocritical self-deceit!
Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates!
Satan represents vengeance, instead of turning the other cheek!
Satan represents responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires!
Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development," has become the most vicious animal of all!
Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!
Satan has been the best friend the church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years!

Summing it up: "Avoid negative people, stop giving a sh!t what other people think and fully enjoy yourself to the extent that you do no harm to yourself or other people you care for."

I read it too as a curiosity and I have never forgotten the phrase about ‘psychic vampires,’ I used it just recently to describe an unpleasant person I know from the old neighborhood

That stuff is not for me but it was an interesting book

reply

But in this case, it seems to be used to describe anyone who asks for help, or who actually needs help. Which is the sociopath's view of compassion and altruism.

Not that there isn't food for thought in the rest, because human is indeed one of the few animal species that are vicious when we don't need to be. We're the ones invented means of starting fires, and used it to burn each other at the stake and flatten whole cities.

reply

We seem to view this differently, no shock there

Take care

reply

I don't insist that you view Crowley the same way I do.

reply

I give you permission to insist on whatever you like, I’m just doing my own thing regardless

You have a good one👋

reply

Do as though wilt!

reply

"So mote it be", lol.

reply

Nobody seems able to stop me, you go carry on with your life, have fun

Who in the fuck are you, to grant "permission"?

Unfortunately, yes they do. They've even sued to have the same protections of other religions.

As they should.

Church Lady!
She was so great…man was Dana Carvey just one of the top SNL cast members ever

reply

I think those people are just edgelords who crave attention and want to belong to something which inflates their personality.

Just my 2 cents.

reply

There is no Satan or God. Only people who are weak and tired.

reply

Yes, but a lot of the people who call themselves "Satanists" are actually atheist trolls. They're out to mock religion, and by forming a legal Church of Satan, and by doing so take gleeful advantage of the tax breaks and legally protected opportunities to become public nuisances.

But yes, there are people who genuinely worship something they call Satan. Some are perfectly decent pagans, similar to Wiccans, but with more emphasis on the male principle than the female. And then there are the bad kind, the ones who'll perform occult rituals and sacrifice animals, in the hope that Satan will stop them being such losers.

reply

Thank you. That is one of the best simple explanations I've seen of Satanism, both the atheistic mock religion of Anton LaVey, and the theists who actually worship Satan or Lucifer from the Bible.

When I dabbled in it mine was philosophical. I believed in the Christian god, but I had serious problems with how the universe was set up. Lol. I saw Satan as a cosmic revolutionary.

reply

Yeah, I can see how someone would object to how the Christian God does things, I do a lot of objecting myself!

I can't say it's a path I'd ever take myself, but well. I find pagans to be much more congenial than Christians.

reply

It's intriguing that you called Satanism the male paganism in contrast to the Wiccan mother goddess and female paganism. That's very succinct.

If anyone's really interested in Satanism, they should read Aleister Crowley. Though he was not a Satanist per se, he covered the dark male aspect of paganism.

reply

Well of course >:) How do you think certain people from a nameless political party got in power? Same goes for many people in Hollyweird becoming powerful. They make deals they never think they will have to cash in on eventually. I could name a few people here on MC who certainly sound like they follow that cult. They're stupid and mean enough.
