Is this well balanced or to left wing?

Hollywood loves sticking to to Republicans.

Is it fair to both views? Is it just a hit job in disguise?

Should I bother to watch? It sounds intriguing.

I am a moderate.

far-left trying to draw parallels between the german and trump with insane mental gymnastics

Ugh...that is what it sounds like thanks.

The show is about America's descent into fascism during the 40s.

Trumpism isn't conservatism. Trumpism is closer to illiberal democracy or similar to Putin's type of government.

The show's creators and actors themselves state the show is about:

"What happens to a country lead astray by right-wing populism and the rhetoric of fear."
"What we're seeing right now is people demonizing whole groups of people."
"If you read the book, the parallels between that imagined time and ours are profound."
"What happens when the far-right and notions of isolationism takeover."
"What if people allowed Nazism, Fascism and anti-Semitism to become a part of the mainstream"
"We have to fight for the America we want or we won't have it."
"Pay attention, wake up, do something."

Fear, hate, division (demonizing the "other"), and isolationism are used by populists to empower themselves and slowly destroy democracy. Further descent happens when a society normalizes evil (ex. separating young children from their parents and placing children in cages).

A great book to read is the best-seller, award-winning "How Democracies Die" by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt. It explains the difference between liberal democracy and illiberal democracy and how democracy becomes slowly and deceptively subverted by an autocratic leader.

When Putin attacked democracy in 2019, Trump failed to defend it.

George Lucas addressed how democracies become a tyranny in the subplot of his prequel trilogy.
"So this is how democracy ends - with thunderous applause" (populism and support).
"My loyalty is to the republic, not to the chancellor." (fealty to an autocrat instead of democracy).

Lol. Stop projecting, Democrats! The Democrats are the ones who thrive on division and misery. They are the party of segregarion, slavery, the KKK and death.
Funny how libtard David Simon seems to have forgotten this historic fact about the KKK and slavery. If it weren't for Republicans there would still be slavery and segregation. No wonder MLK was Republican.
Nazism, fascism and antisemitism are all owned by Democrats. Instead, they're blaming the other side of what they are guilty of. I wouldn't expect anything else from satan worshippers.

You're off-topic and not discussing the show. Your rant belongs in the politics section.

reply

Isn't funny how they themselves are spreading fear (of the right) and demonizing whole groups of people (the right)??? A bunch of hypocrites. Have they forgotten the horrors the far-left has brought into this world (communism anyone?).

reply

The 2020 election is the first step into an illiberal democracy . I will give you Trump's style of populism set it in motion.

reply

AKA: Trumpism.

The next few presidential elections will be a dangerous time for American democracy. Trump's successors have paid attention, learned from his failures and will likely inherit his followers and news media support.

reply

Why not watch it (or at least just give it a try, one or two episodes) and make your own opinion about it?

reply

Pure leftard TDS lunacy.

Trump has been more successful at destroying the Republican Party than any perceived "Leftists" you think run Hollyweird.

reply

Interesting conservatives associate Nazis and the persecution of minorities with Trump and the Republican party. Hmmm...

reply

Marxist propaganda.

reply

the book came out in 2004, it has nothing to do with Trump

reply

Are you talking to me? I didn't mention Trump whatsoever.

reply

Having only 2 relevant parties does not automatically mean that one of them must be on the left.

reply

From the comments it seems too much sided on the left. Thats a shame. They should do a show like this about whats happening with covid restrictions, that is very much authoritarian too!
