Keelai is correct, the series was always biased towards the diverse Rebels, who were made up of oppressed peoples of many species, and against the oppressive fascist regime of the Empire.
I honestly don't get why people who support the real-world equivalent of the Empire's oppressive policies consider themselves to be Star Wars fans. And it's not like they even realize it, I seem to be the only one who admits to being a huge Palpatine fan!

You never read the novelizations. It's made clear that humanoid males (white) are favored by the Empire in the original Star Wars book. It also details how the Republic became a tyranny and Vader's fight with Obi-Wan on a volcanic planet decades before Lucas made the prequels.
The Republic had true equality and pluralism in its democracy.
I did read the novelizations, and racism was never a thing even hinted at.
The closest equivalent in the old EU was an idea of "speciism," where Palpatine believed human beings were superior to all the other humanoid species in the Star Wars universe...
