Racists (and other cowardly imbeciles) have no idea about Tolkien

Tolkien wrote about beings that weren't white.

He was a Professor, you aren't.

He proudly rebuffed the Nazis. Real ones, not just Trump's uneducated asslickers etc etc.

Tolkien would not be 'turning in his grave' due to race, then, or now.

What about non-cowardly imbeciles? Do they have an idea about Tolkien?

reply

"Everyone who doesn't agree with me is a racist". Retarded argument.

White nationalist incels regularly complain about depictions of Jesus in the Western world. I'm pretty sure they protested the Mel Gibson movie. The real Jesus likely had an olive complexion and dark eyes. None of this chestnut brown hair and green eyes nonsense. Males at the time stood, on average, between 5'1" and 5'5", so they were super-upset about the casting of the very tall Jim Caviezel.

reply

Wait, you're saying that "white nationalist incels" are upset about Western depictions of Jesus because western depictions are unrealistically white-looking? And you're pretty sure that they protested 'Passion of the Christ' because Jim Caviezel was too tall and white-looking?

I agree that Western depictions of Jesus are probably unrealistic, and if he existed he likely looked much more Middle-Eastern, but why would racist white westerners be upset that Jesus has been depicted as "too white?"

Do you even know what you're saying?

reply

You make some good points. I bow to your superior knowledge.

reply

Tolkien wrote about beings that weren't white.

And Hitler wrote about the Jews. What was your point again ?

reply

Racists don't tend to have an idea about anything of worth, but racism. They don't tend to be the brightest.

reply

That's why they're obsessed with White, straight males.

reply

Black supremacists aren't

reply

Black supremacists aren't a thing but rather a mythological concept made up out of thin air by white supremacists themselves as a lame attempt to project their bigotry onto the primary victims of white supremacy when they dare call out WS for what they are. It's a standard, "I know you are but what am I?" grade school gaslighting tactic often regurgitated by white supremacists

Fixed that for you

reply

Black Supremacists definitely exist, and have organized groups. Even the SPLC recognizes many organized Black Supremacist hate groups.

reply

So you've never heard of these guys?

reply

Key difference. White supremacists invented the term white supremacy to describe themselves, their belief system & it was implemented systematically to benefit themselves and oppress others, black people especially. There is no "black supremacist" equivalent to that. "Black supremacy" is a term invented by white supremacists to describe any black person who fights against white supremacy while there is no group of black people who ever identified as "black supremacists" & oppressed other groups in the name of said "black supremacy". Now it still gets erroneously thrown around at black people who fight against racism (still primarily by white supremacists) but also to describe any (utterly powerless) black fringe religious group consisting of 20 or so people with questionable beliefs.

reply

This is just one example, there are many more. Why are you defending racial supremacy? Do you defend Asian supremacists too?

reply

With the discussion topic in mind, the real question is why are you defending white supremacy by deflecting onto fictitious white supremacist false equiveillances?

reply

Racial supremacy is racial supremacy, why do you do defend it?

reply

False equivalence is false equivalence & has no bearing on this topic since It's white supremacists who have been crying incessantly about the racially diverse casting in the LOTR series, not these imaginary non-white supremacist groups you're obsessively projecting onto. Your defending of white supremacists is the only relevant issue.

reply

I'm positive that you know that narrative is a deflection of the real complaints of fans of Tolkein's work. I'd honestly be surprised if you could find a handful of genuinely racist complaints about casting, if even that many.

Overwhelmingly the complaints are of the appalling writing, wooden acting, barely existent story, poor costumes, and pathetic portrayal of elven culture, most particularly the character of Galadriel, who IS woefully miscast. While there WERE many complaints of actress Sophia Nomvete's ridiculous (and utterly wrong) claims whenever interviewed prior to the show's broadcast, her character and performance in the show is one of the more well-received ones.

If there really were gangs of huwyte soopreemeecysts stalking fantasy shows, don't you think HotD reviews would be seeing the same treatment you claim is happening?

As it is, YOUR attempt to continue a ludicrous narrative to support a weak show in order to protect the shallow and broken dream of a pampered billionaire, only comes across as an ever more desperate projection of a truly racist leftist.

reply

You presume a lot. I have no investment in this show or LOTR in general but it's no secret that LOTR has long had a large following among the stormfront crowd & they've been actively decrying the racially diverse casting well ahead of the show airing. Dismissing the contingent of widespread butthurt among the heavily populated online white supremacist c̶o̶m̶m̶u̶n̶i̶t̶i̶e̶s̶/ cesspools as merely select "handful" of "huwyte soopreemeecysts" shows bad faith to your argument.

reply

I presumed ONE THING: that you are aware that the overwhelming amount of complaints are not about the amount of melanin a character's skin contains.

Perhaps it isn't a secret about "the stormfront crowd" (who are they? Some bad guys from another show?) but I for one, have no idea what you are talking about.

You seem to have some intricate knowledge of "white supremacist cesspools", so I'll make another assumption here; that you spend an overwhelming amount of time online totally absorbed by whatever political sand is currently in your panties.

I did not dismiss "the contingent of widespread butthurt among the heavily populated online white supremacist cesspools as merely select "handful" of huwyte soopreemeecysts". That is YOUR assumption.

I made fun of a seemingly false narrative, that is all.

You made no attempt to address any actual issue that I posted, but resorted to some sort of deflection, making assumptions about my knowledge of things, of which I have no knowledge.

Talk about "bad faith" argumentation...

Let's not play dumb like you don't already know that stormfront is one of the foremost white supremacist cesspools on the internet with vast spawns of stormfags who have been obsessed with LOTR for years. It's a known fact that LOTR has an embarrassing white supremacist following so if diverse casting is enough to make them cry that their attempts to claim & gatekeep the series to meet their white supremacist sensibilities are being dismissed, then I say good.

reply

I think a lot of people made up their minds about this series before it came out. I was one of them, but I am actually open minded enough to change my mind having watched the first 3 episodes. It turns out the series is rather good, and other than Galadriel's character, none of the political idealogy behind the casting choices have had an effect on the story.

If the cast had been all white, and there was none of the weird messaging in the weirdly cut trailers for the series that made it look like a trainwreck, I think most of the people hating on the show would have been able to admit that it is quite good.

As it is you have people who cannot admit they were wrong nitpicking costumes, and obsessing over Galadriel being a warrior and kind of a bitch(which is true, but it's one point in an otherwise excellent series).

In Valinor, a blessed realm, heavenly and free of evil, "The Rings of Power" shows us bullying and fistfights. In lore, Elves who look seven, are in their mid-twenties, they have very mature minds and are walking, talking, singing and dancing by their first year.

The portrayal of Elven culture is beyond terrible.

This show has little to no respect for Tolkein's work.

If you really believe that I have a bridge in Manhattan to sell. Cheap for you ;)

Wow, the sheer volume of woke bullshit in this thread is staggering.

"Tolkien wrote about beings that weren't white."
I have absolutely no doubt about that. But were they Elves or Dwarves?
