Why the fuck is this SHIT even being made?

It's not a remake.

Depp’s version was an awful remake no one wanted.

This one is a prequel no one wanted.

Because millions will watch it. OTOH, all you do is shit all over this site!

Because the creators thought it will make money. That is the entire reason for it's existence.

18 years ago, to be fair. And personally, I thought that version was garbage and Depp was awful.

But... the reason this prequel film has been made is because it's a recognisable IP to be exploited for financial gain. We're not exactly dealing with high art here. It might be good, it might be bad, it might be indifferent. But it's just commerce.

It has been made because they know that the general public will pay to see any old shit.

I disagree that the Burton version is good. Depp was awful as Willy Wonka.

It was actually really good. Good songs, funny and charming characters, pretty good story. I liked it a lot but I went in with low expectations.
