WE DID IT!!!

WE DID IT!!!
What do you mean by WE Kimosabe??!!

reply

everybody!! the fans, the cast and crew.

even the Russo brothers are thanking the marvel fans for helping Avengers: Endgame beat Avatar at the BO!!

reply

Allow me to apologize for my apparent skepticism to your announcement; and applaud you for what appears to be your honest enthusiasm!!

Count me in as one of those who were influenced by the reporting of the rather low International numbers and thought that it would take a few more weeks of domestic box office revenue before the "OverTaking" would happen.

Good job Marvel / Disney and way to go ghostrider in being the first to post the story here!

reply

are you sure?

I didnt expect this for a few weeks?

News and explanations

Yep just also saw it on Twitter....

I must say I thought it would take a few more weeks though

reply

I had a gut feeling they were holding international numbers to make the big announcement in Hall H during Comic-Con, and I was correct. If you noted box office mojo the last weeks, the way they were updating the international numbers was, more than inconsistent. That was a red, flag for me

Avengers EG officially Broke almost every record there is now....

I'm calling it right now

EGs Opening Weekend record wont be broken for at least 10 years...

Its record of beating The previous OW record by almost 100 Million WILL NEVER Be broken....

and I dont believe another film top EGs World Wide record for at least another 10 years(exception being If they re-release Avatar 1 before Avatar 2, but now that Disney owns Avatar I find that very Unlikely)

PS....

I saved this from Queen....

I knew it had the potential to fail the second he said it....

"Is This Going To Beat Avatar?"

[–] QueenFanUSA (1983) 2 months ago

Sorry...it ain't gonna happen this time.

This was Marvel's one shot and It's not gonna do it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the moment he said this I knew he screwed up....

at the time he made the statement, Based on the forecast I did and numbers I was seeing, I had EG coming up about 40 Million short and finishing with around 2.745 B

But Queen a few days before this was trolling and his predictions were that EG was going to come up over 100 M+ short of Avatar....

So I knew based on Queens complete inability to forecast where a film is going to end up....He was confident EG had no chance of topping Avatar thinking it was going to come up over 100 M+ short....

I on the other hand Knew it should get within 40 M, and I immediately knew if it got that close, Disney would do a re-release to try and get it over that top...I also figured Far From Home would give it a small bump....

I must admit, I did not know for sure if it would make it....But I was confident It would get extremely close and It had factors that could push it over the top....

Likewise, I knew Queen never considered a re-release or FFH, Because he was so far off on where he forecast EG to end up, He was 100% confident not only would EG not top Avatar but wouldnt really get close, therefor he never thought about or realized the potential of Disney pushing it over the top and EG benefiting from FFH

The second He posted the statement I saved it....I knew it had the potential to go down in flames and more importantly I knew exactly WHY it would go down it flames....

It is my goal in life to make Queens life HELL....thankfully he makes it quite easy!

reply

Do you still think it only made 900K last weekend internationally Billy? Lol.

reply

Its a fact....

This is getting so odd....

I've provided links proving it made 900K internationally...

stop confusing the total week, with the weekend....

reply

You have a really hard time admitting you are wrong I guess.

reply

nope, In my HUNDREDS of battle with Queen, I've Lost Twice...

and BOTH times I immediately admitted I was wrong and Gave Queen the Win....and BOTH Times I did LITERALLY IMMEDIATELY....I disagreed with queen for over 6 months about Solo and The Star Wars Franchise being in trouble....

With 10 Mins of The first Projections coming in for Solo's OW, I Messaged Queen and Told him I was Wrong, You've been right all along, This is A CLEAR WIN for you...

I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong

in this case, I'm just not wrong....I provided the links that prove EG made 2.8 M last weekend Globally and 900K was from Overseas....

You just for some reason cant get past were ONLY talking about the weekend and NOT the entire week....

reply

What is more likely Billy? Endgame made 4.1m from Monday to Thursday, then 0.9m from Friday to Sunday, or that Variety made a typo?

reply

nevermind....

I guess EG is officially The highest grossing movie of all time

Inevitable. Disney has reported that Marvel’s AVENGERS: ENDGAME will pass AVATAR today and become the #1 film of all-time worldwide. Excelsior!

Nightmare Weekend for Queen.....

Nightmare Year For Queen...

Nightmare Decade for Queen....

Another Nightmare of a decade coming for Queen watching Disney dominate...

reply

Marvelous. This is so damn well deserved.

*cue the boring adjusted for inflation crowd, their excuses and the fact that they’ll ‘forget’ to mention things like the tons competition in the world of entertainment today and the multiple rereleases the ‘real’ highest grossing films of all time have had*

Now, will another Avatar re-release pose a threat? Maybe... maybe not. But Endgame finally did what many/plenty of detractors thought was impossible (underestimating the MCU still? Hehe) and I’ll bet that it can stay at the very top with its own second re-release.

In any case, congrats to everyone at Marvel & Disney.

Possible but IMO very unlikely now that Disney owns Avatar...

reply

highest grossing needs to be done in real dollars to be accurate

reply

That's probably the least accurate way to do it.

reply

how else do you accurately measure comparative gross across years if not through real dollars

highest gross also doesn't necessarily reflect most popular due to inflation and the change in value/asking price of a ticket

reply

There's no perfect method, but adjusting for inflation skews things significantly. Movie ticket prices haven't mirrored inflation, and usually lag behind it. Often prices remain static for years, and when they do change, they don't change in line with the price of milk, cars, soybeans, and so forth. More importantly, doing so doesn't factor in the advantages older films had. Home recording, video rental, piracy, the internet, DVDs, cable TV, streaming services, and a general decline in people leaving their couch all make it harder for a modern film to compete with an older film. And then there are advantages a specific film may have. In the case of Avatar, it was something nearly everyone saw in 3-D, which made for a massive boost in revenue, and also the peak of the modern 3-D film, which meant many viewers went simply because it was in 3-D, not caring what the film was. Furthermore, films stayed in theaters far longer in years past. Avatar played for 32 weeks, I believe, compared to 12 weeks for Endgame, which is about to be pulled from theaters and released on home video. Lastly, if you go back before the '80s or so, there was no real tracking system in place. Theater owners were basically asked "how many tickets were sold?" and that was it. If someone said "oh man like 1000 people showed up," then 1000 was recorded, even if it were only 100. There are likely many other factors, but the bottom line is that simply plugging dollars into an equation to adjust for inflation gives an almost useless result.

not from the numbers used to rank grosses which was my point

reply

Gross box office is the best way I know to compare films from the late '90s onward. There really is no viable metric for comparing films from about 1996 forward to those of the past, as far too many changes have made it into an apples to oranges comparison. And then, comparing any films before the early '80s to anything after that is basically impossible; apples to shovels, that one.

Looking at the "adjusted for ticket price inflation" chart tells you absolutely nothing about how popular or successful a film was in comparison to another.

reply

gross can be a misleading measure due to inflation and ticket value/pricing as i already said

the average ticket price in 1969 was $1.42 which adjusted for inflation would cost $10.14 in 2019 dollars

in 1997 it was $4.59; last year $9.11

in '91 $4.21; '94 $4.08, a rare case where the price dropped
