Why isn't the Hulk getting his own movie?

To date, the only one he has is Norton's Incredible Hulk. All the other Marvel characters have two or three sequels by now. He's treated as just a side character acting as filler for other characters.

There are talks of him getting his own movie in the future. It is a challenge to have a full movie around a seldom speaking, perpetually violent character.

Vin Diesel could pull it off...

That got a chuckle out of me.

HULK MAD! HULK SMASH! GET REVENGE ON WORLD!

I don't think Marvel/Disney ever got the rights from Universal to do another solo Hulk movie (probably why they put Planet Hulk into Thor 3)

reply

I was just reading that there is basically a standalone Hulk movie being weaved into Thor 3, Infinity War, and Avengers 4.

I think that might mean that Avengers 4 will be the completion of the Planet Hulk / World War Hulk storyline that started in Age of Ultron when he left, and of course ended up on Sakaar in Ragnarok.

Maybe after his troubles in Infinity War, Hulk will take over Banner and his uncontrolled ego will make him into the villain.

I hope so!

It's not easy being green.

Unless it has a large cameo by Tony Stark or Thor (or both) it wouldn't be all that successful.

reply

well I think now after Avengers a hulk movie would be hugely successful far more than in 2003/08

reply

I guess much would depend on who writes it and directs it, so you have a valid opinion.

reply

Universal owns the license to Hulk at the moment. Disney could do a collab like they did with Sony-owned Spider-Man, but from what I've heard, Universal just isn't interested, and Disney is doing fine without it.

reply

Hulk and Spidey were household names decades before many of these b-list super heroes got their own movies.

I'd love to see Ruffalo in his own Hulk movie, he's far better than Edward Norton.

reply

Nah, Norton was just as good. Eric Bana was good, too.

reply

Norton was great. I love that 'Days without incidents' scene in The Incredible Hulk. I wonder how he would be doing in the MCU.

reply

Norton in all the Avengers movies would've been frickin mindblowing

reply

Norton’s excellent, but “That’s my secret, I’m always angry” - that line only works from Ruffalo (who does indeed seem to be always angry)

Norton’s line might’ve been a more resigned, “that’s my secret, I don’t HAVE to be angry”

I can’t even imagine what Norton would’ve been like as Banner in Wakanda. Mildly annoyed? He definitely wouldn’t have been crowing loudly at Thor’s return

reply

Issues with Universal over what rights Marvel has to the character and vise-versa.
