Hilarious!

I went and saw Blockers this afternoon. It was outrageously hilarious and wildly entertaining. The film is the directorial debut of Kay Cannon, who wrote the Pitch Perfect movies and was a producer on 30 Rock. Blockers is about three parents (Leslie Mann, John Cena, Ike Barinholtz) who are determined to stop their teenaged daughters (Kathryn Newton, Gideon Aldon, Geraldine Viswanathan) from having sex for the first time on prom night. It is consistently funny and the screenplay is well written. The entire cast is great and everyone seems to be having fun with the material. I rate Blockers 8/10 and recommend it to anyone who likes a crazy, fun comedy.

Man. that endorsement sounds like it was written by the advertising department of a production company. Was a funny movie though

"Outrageously" funny and "wildly" entertaining.....really? I would rate it a tepid 5.5/10. I guess it's a matter of tastes but I think Ike Barinholtz is wildly un-entertaining as well as...you guessed it...outrageously unfunny...

I've enjoyed it. Directed by Kay Cannon, of "Pitch Perfect" writing fame, what with both Seth Rogen producing and Judd Apatow's wife Leslie Mann, and the story, this is like a new twist on Judd Apatow films. (Not perving but Sam, as played by newcomer Gideon Adion, is helluva nerdy and cute). Not fammiliar with the often jealous Ike Barinholtz (Sam's dad), but found him probaly the funniest by far of all of the parents, not to discredit Leslie Mann or John Cena, both of whom were real funny, too.

Thanks for your response. I am a major Judd Apatow supporter from his Freaks & Geeks days(best show ever)! I also enjoyed Pitch Perfect. Comedy is so subjective. I have never laughed at anything said or done by Barinholtz...he just seems too obvious, too forced...energy masquerading as humor....not so fast!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was meh...

I'm curious, what are your top 5 comedies? thanks.

reply

I'm not the type to watch every comedy. Part of the reason I saw this one was for Kathryn Newton (as a Supernatural fan). There were some really funny parts but what I think makes it stand out is that pretty much every character is likeable. Without spoiling anything I'll just say that the route they took with the story was cool as well.

reply

it's directed by a women, and they say the movie is very "empowering" to women.... thanks for the Warning , i will pass on this one.

You are missing out.

I knew it reeked of feminist bullsh*t as soon as I heard John Cena's wife speak. No wonder he's so whipped and his daughter doesn't give a fuck about Dad's rules.

Men and Women ARE NOT FUCKING EQUAL and they never will be. Especially when it comes to sex and sh*t.
PROVE ME FUCKING WRONG!

The only truly Hilarious part was when the guys were all very gentle and emasculated, I've never seen any red-blooded male be so calm when he's about to hit it. LOL. What a fucking joke.

Awful comedy, 6/10 at best.
Timing was off on most jokes, including all of John Cenas scenes.
I liked this movie better when it was American pie, and funny.

reply

i concur. somewhere between 5 and 6. leslie mann is usually funny. i didnt lol at this movie.
laughter is my only criteria for rating comedies.
how the hell is it 6.8 on imdb? i saw 22% of people gave it a 10. thats with 17,000 votes. normally thats just people who worked on the film giving it a 10.... they musta had hoards of people helpin em out with those fake 10 votes
