What a shame, this had the potential to reboot Hollywood comedies but they’ve just used it as another Trojan Horse for more suffocating woke propaganda.
Expect a big opening followed by a swift drop-off as word spreads.

The genius of this is that not only do they get a captive children's audience to fill with propaganda, they get the parents to pay for the privilege.

It’s striking how fiendish these people are, but long term they’ll lose. Woke is already crumbling as normies catch up to what the rest of us have been calling out for years now.
They actually telegraphed the wokeness early on with the poster tagline ‘She’s everything. He’s just Ken’. It stinks of misandry and will hopefully be a warning to men, and those who don’t hate men, to stay away from this feminazi crap.

It was written and directed by Greta Gerwig who is very progressive, it was obvious from the trailer with the whole gender reversal theme. Just a pity there doesn't seem to be any kind of subtlety to it, we didn't need the brazenness of Ghostbusters 2016.
shareI saw this today. It does get pretty heavy handed and preachy at key moments. There are some laughs and Margot Robbie is great, but it is a disappointment that they went the route they did.

shareKowalski, you don't watch a lot of horror, do you? Mainly slashers. Horror (mainly slashers) most of the time (and since 1978 aka Halloween 1978) makes women look good and treat the men like crap. Men just think with their muscles and dicks in horror movies (either they want sex, or they think they can take on the killer because they got muscles/think they are strong). But they don't have get so in your face about stuff. Everything is just implied. Plus the female characters aren't verbally attacking the male characters and stuff throughout. Plus saying "I'm better because I have a vag, and since you got a dick, kill yourself." No. Usually there is never any battle of the sexes. The sexes work together. So this whole thing of women being better can be done. Hollywood is just being stupid about it nowadays, especially since with how long horror has been doing it, A24 horror movies take things to the extreme and is more in-your-face than other horror movies. Pretty much all A24 horror movies are "women are the best, and men, kill yourself for simply being men." You don't see that with any other horror movie from other companies/studios.

The point is that feminists whined for years about the demeaning depiction of women in cinema, but never advertised that part of the mission to address this was to have the freedom to be sexist pigs themselves and be lauded for it. Misandrist trash like Barbie wouldn't be so bad if men were also presently allowed to make films depicting all women as mindless sheep whose primary purpose should be to serve men. Instead, the message to men is that they should suck on the tailpipe of revenge and like it. share

shareI'm not a part of the hive mind- I'm not even a republican. I just see the world for what it is. I read a review that made an observation about the movie. There is nothing wrong with strong women, gay characters, "minority" characters and what have you. However, the constant hollywood man bashing is grating and costing studios billions of dollars(just look at the long string of Disney failures in the past few years) It would be grating if it were constant female bashing too, but that is not what is happening. If you don't see it- that is fine. But just beacsue some people see it, draw attention to it, and discuss it on a message board that is intended for discourse (that you may not agree with) about a film, does not mean they are a part of a hive mind.

You did it. You formed sentences and constructed a paragraph, all without using the word “woke”. My comment was aimed at bringing back language, reasoning, and critical argument. Lately, too many just shout “woke!” at everything as a lazy way to express their disapproval.
In 2023 anyone who is not living in a cave knows what the word woke means. I also placed a link to an article about the film. That way people could discuss what was in the article. It's not like you offered any enlightened words as to why this isn't a woke nightmare and you probably didn't even read the article either.

Since I have taught at the college level and am currently teaching at the elementary school level, I can recommend some good books that will help you to learn how to read, write, and analyze things better. I am sure that you already know it but, you write and think at about a fourth-grade level.
