Why are they hiding the fact it's a musical?

Something tells me this one is going to be a stinker.

If You’re Making a Musical, How About Not Hiding the Fact That You’re Making a Musical?

Has there ever been a good musical? No.

Grease?

reply

Grease is probably the musical that makes people hate musicals the most.

reply

Grease is still the word and it rocks! That's not up for debate. 😎

reply

LMAO...NO.

-grease
-singing in the rain
-mary poppins
-sound of music
-Aladdin 1992
-beauty and the beast 1991
-charlie and the chocolate factory

We are using cartoons as examples?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a legitimate example but it's also an example of a movie that would be greatly improved without the musical numbers.

reply

"We are using cartoons as examples"

cause they are literally musicals??

i cant disagree. im trying to think of a single song i like. i actually always fastforward "cheerup charlie" to get to the good shit and story going. they are more icnonic now and for their impact.

I guess I overlooked Hakuna matata.

lion king has some solid ones.

musicals either are or aren't your thing

Oliver! (1968)

There have been many great musicals. If you happen not to like musicals in general, then you likely wouldn't like them. But for those of us who do like them, there are a host to choose from.

Author of the Sodality Universe:
The Road fro Antioch
In the Markets of Tyre
Flight to Lystra
The Theater of Ephesus
The Council on Jerusalem (coming real soon now. In final edits.)

The Shattered World Series begins in 2025.

Yes, South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut

reply

Cabaret?

reply

There have been lots of good musicals.

reply

Only the animated ones were good. We have been over this.

reply

theres literally no indication its a musical. the way its edited it makes it seem like people are dancing and music is playing, but not that its a musical

reply

Because it's going to be shit. It was suppose to be a streaming movie and Paramount is dumping it in theaters to make a quick buck due to the writers strike

reply

I wish they would actually try to understand WHY people hate musicals.
- It's because songs are annoying
- They go on for forever

Just make good hit songs for your musicals and make them short. Not having characters run around for 5 minutes singing annoying boring song with plot not moving.

Nobody hated "Let it go" from Frozen. Because it was good song. So people watched it over and over on Youtube.

Nobody hated music numbers in Encanto. Because songs were awesome and were driving plot.

Nobody hated music numbers in Aladdin. For same reason.

Songs in Grease were good also.

But most of the time they make boring annoying songs and then force people to sit and watch them. So public doesn't trust and don't want to watch them in general.

reply

The Greatest Showman also has some really great songs. :)

reply

There are also those of us out here who love musicals. Perhaps this movie is made for us, and not people who hate musicals?

reply

Maybe they hope to get people who don't like musicals to see it.

reply

It's bizarre because I thought Mamma Mia for example took a tonne of money at the box office.

reply

False advertising - clear and simple.
They rightly assumed that quite a few viewers wouldn't come once they found out it was a musical.
So they removed all traces of music in the trailer.

reply

i didn't mind the music so much.. but the acting is fairly atrocious

reply

I understand that from the trailer. Zero charisma.

reply

trailers can be misleading though.. however in this case 100% on point
