I give this movie a 7/10 too. It's a good horror movie with a very brutal ending.

I'd probably give it an 8.

Zero, crap for crap heads

I rate it 7/10; it's a good movie, but not an enjoyable one.

The plot is part "Deliverance", part "Last House on the Left" (2009), part "I Spit on Your Grave" (2009) and part "Village of the Damned". Is it as good as these films? It's definitely not as good as the first two and the remake of "I Spit", but it depends on your definition of 'good.' The remake of "Last House" addresses some of the same themes and is both horrifying and thrilling, but it's also ultimately redeeming and life-affirming. You can say the same for "Deliverance," although "Last House" is arguably better, a masterpiece, in fact (the 2009 version). Even "I Spit" leaves you with a sense of justice served. But "Eden Lake" lacks these qualities and just leaves you with a depressing sense of disgust and hopelessness. If this was the goal of the filmmakers then it's a "good" film.

Yet "Eden Lake" is good in other ways too. I understood the pack of kids in the story because I hanged out with a similar pack at the same age and we were almost as bad, although we didn't torture or kill people physically. Like the kids in the film -- we came from dysfunctional families with parents who had largely lost their moral compass with the passing of spiritual devotion. The kids are merely the result of the immoral (teenage) wasteland we live in.

There are many parts of "Eden Lake" that are ripe for interesting discussion. For instance, the guy underestimating the malevolent power of the kids due to age; and the folly of the couple to obliviously hang around after repeated bad omens.

The film is also effective in depicting the female protagonist fleeing in a dazed state of shock -- injured, bloodied, muddied. This was reminiscent of the post-rape scenes in "I Spit." There are also parts that don't work so well, like the man roaming freely through a stranger's house (Why Sure!). Still, "Eden Lake" works if you're looking for a horrifying, disgusting film that's a sad commentary on the human condition.

Its somewhere between 7 and 8 to me. Plenty of stupid decisions all around, but panicked people make stupid decisions. Otherwise the writing and acting seems to be pretty damn good. I only wish the movie dared to actually show crucial scenes instead of editing away because of "ratings".

It's on the low end of a 10. I rated it a 10 but a 9 would be fine also.

They should have gone elsewhere to camp or just headed back to town
