Sophie Turner thinks disappointed fans are "disrespectful"

“People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel,” she said. “All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

She's right about all the hard work that goes into these shows.

But I can be disappointed without being disrespectful to that effort.

And there is no hit show, that can afford 50 night shoots, without the loyal viewership.

So fans are allowed to express more than positive appraisals.

They clap AND they boo. That's the way it works.

reply

I don’t think she was saying that people can’t be disappointed or criticize the show/performance etc... she was talking about the petitions to redo everything. And I at least agree...that is disrespectful.

reply

The petition is absurd on its face -- but the passion behind it isnt. That same passion is what propelled the show's success and all the careers of the people she's defending. This is just an extreme example in a world where you can start a petition with a few keystrokes, and supporters can sign it with a few more. It's just an outburst. The fans are allowed their opinions, and she's allowed hers. It's all fair game for a show with an audience.

If I go to a restaurant and order a meal and it tastes terrible, am I disrespectful to the cooks and the waiters if I send it back? Am I disregarding all the time it took for them to prepare the meal and bring it to me?

reply

If you ordered pizza and send it back because you just discovered that you don’t actually like pizza...yes it is. If the dish was perfectly fine and you just didn’t like the way it was...yes it’s disrespectful, why did you order that?
Also, there is a difference between „ordering“ something and being invited to view someone else's vision of something.

reply

I think a better analogy is: You go to a pizzeria several times and enjoy the pizza very much each time. Then one day the pizza that they serve is nothing like what you received on previous visits. It's now cold, undercooked and tastes terrible.

reply

Well, that’s not what the OP said, but ok, let’s go with that.
If you find said pizza terrible one time, alright, might have just had a bad day, but if you keep going back for it, that’s just stupid...just find a different pizzeria.
And about the ‘sending it back’ part...again - I don’t think that ordering something and being invited to view someone elses vision is the same.
Doesn’t mean you can’t have and give your opinion- you can greatly dislike it and tell everyone who is willing to listen...but to ask for the creators to change it and redo it because some where unhappy is silly.
Can’t make everyone happy...how many redos and endings should they make?
For those who hate it I’d say: Just use your imagination, make your own ending and forget the one they gave you - be convinced that you are right, they are not, be happy and move on 🤷‍♀️

reply

The petition is obviously not a serious thing. Even the guy who started it said he basically just wanted to make a statement loud enough for the showrunners to hear.

And now I'm hungry for pizza.

reply

Yes, but I can see how someone could find it disrespectful, that was my only point I tried to make :p

Pizza does sound good right now :p

reply

If he pays for HBO it's the same as ordering something.

reply

There are more shows on HBO than just GOT. So one has nothing to do with the other. If he just bought HBO for GOT it goes back to: if you don’t like it...don’t order it.

reply

Actors like Sophie Tucker, Maisie Williams and Isaac Hempstead Wright have spent half their lives working on this show..Actors like Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke have spent their entire adult lives.
Do you expect them not to be defensive and biased?
I do believe the actors and crew worked very hard ...many of them realized it was rushed and maybe they can see the writing was not up to snuff but they're still going to be protective about it.

Let's not start on the actors now that all other gripes have been exhausted.
They're entitled to be disappointed at the reaction too. It must feel personal. I'm sure they wanted it to be as epic as we did.

reply

that didnt stop some of the those actors from expressing their own disappointment in the final season when they were supposed to being doing press to support it. so there's something to all of this. Critics have felt the same way. It's not just some sliver of butthurt fanboys.

reply

Hmm..didn't say that..
But I don't blame the actors for its failings.

reply

I dont blame them either but my point is many of the actors were priming the audience b/c they were disappointed as well. They seem to be more in agreement with the audience reaction since they telegraphed the same sentiment before it aired.

reply

Most of the actors are also fans of the show. Except Stephen Dillane.

reply

What does she care? She's finished the job and will be rolling in dough for the rest of her life. Screw what she thinks!

reply

She should try working 11 months in a real job without people catering to your every whim or constant pampering and emotional reinforcement.

reply

Don't oppress her!!!

reply

She can say whatever she wants. The show made her very comfortable I'm sure. But that said, the fans invested in this show and expected a good ending and it looks like most don't believe that's what happened and they have a right to speak out about it. It's not really that big of a deal. It's not the first great show to have a shitty ending and it won't be the last.

She finds the petition signers disrespectful

I think she was being kind. The people who start petitions for such trivial issues are not just disrespectful, they are a bunch of entitled nincompoops. They must be utterly senseless to think that such an action is actually going to have even an iota of affect on the path GOT is going to take. There was not even a 1% chance that they would actually redo season 8. A bunch of dweebs wasting their not so valuable time

Dont like Turner, but she is right and being overly kind

reply

Do you feel that you spent your time valuably typing that?

reply

He's busy starting a petition to declare people who start petitions a bunch of entitled nincompoops, incels, manbabies, oppressors, white supremacists, racists, fascists, atheists and satanic worshipers.

reply

Ouch, looks like you were one of the geniuses who signed that petition

Apologies for showing you the mirror, you pretty little snowflake

reply

Absolutely

reply

Looks at all the childish replies from angry fans taking Sophie Turner’s comments personally

So much butthurt
