reboot of the reboot coming

NBCUniversal's newly named streaming service, Peacock, is revisiting Battlestar Galactica with a new, straight-to-series take from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, set as part of its initial content lineup. Peacock will also be the streaming home for Ron Moore's Syfy take on Battlestar Galactica.

Details about the new take on the beloved drama are being kept under wraps, though sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that it will be an updated, more modern look at the world as told through the lens of the sci-fi favorite. The updated Battlestar Galactica, sources say, will be inspired by Syfy's 2004 series, developed by Ron Moore, and not based on the 1978 original from creator Glen A. Larson

What an unbelievably stupid idea.

reply

Maybe its not too surprising as no doubt they are taking note of Star Wars/Trek coming back to (mostly) big success and that's what BSG did back in the 70s

and then there was the Bryan Singer movie a few years ago (that originally started out as a proposed TV series) that was going to be a new take on the story despite the 2004 reboot that has no doubt been cancelled now..(so maybee they are now adapting it as a series?)

even though it states it'll be more inspired by the reboot maybe it'll be closer to the 70s series (male Starbuck, proper cylons, not so 9/11)

reply

Hold on.. the guy has said it wont be a reboot but actually set in the Ron Moore mythology??

BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because… why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!

So maybe it'll be like a 'legacy sequel' and Galactica/Adama/Starbuck etc will feature in some long lost way similar to Luke in TFA/Deckard in BR2049

Unless he's just worded it so he means it will be respectful to the Ron Moore series but will still be a reimagination of BSG

I hope they don’t bring back any of the original cast (except maybe the Angels). Their story was told.

I would recomend that they set the story 155,000 years (yes you read that right) after the series ended.

That would be around 5,000 years after present day.

Humans have developed light speed and have colonized Mars and Venus.

Then they create centurions again.

Now they could have another nuclear Holocaust or do something different.

They could go back the original colonies who should be healthy and thriving.

Or they could encounter the original cylons who have evolved during the last 150,000 years.

Or they can interact with the descendants of the original Colonies and New Caprica who have been watching us and are more advanced since they never abandoned technology. That could explain UFOs.

There are so many possibilities and they could do it with an entire new cast and characters.

I agree bad idea to reboot. Good luck living up to the last series.

reply

You mean the last series were everyone turned into Angels and ferries in the end. Yeah how are they going top that. How they going top a show about a bunch of A-hole in space. Who deserve to die from the there own incompetence.

reply

Well, the man made Mr. Robot.
That's good enough for me.

Although I never liked the "Final Five" baloney we were fed in Seasons 3 and 4 of the RDM show, I actually prefer the new Battlestar series takes place in the RDM universe, there's so much to explore and check out. We haven't even seen the other worlds of the 12 colonies and those who survived the nuclear attack, let alone revisited the "thousands left behind on New Caprica", the freed Cylons and their Basestar, etc.

No doubt, this whole Wuhan Coronavirus throws this series "reboot" into dissarray. We're not going to be getting any new shows for a while because of this.

reply

Not a reboot. Takes places in the same universe.

reply

Another depressing SF series. yay.

reply

More depressing the better.

reply

FFS, don't these people have ANY ORIGINAL IDEAS ANYMORE????

reply

Ron D Moore didn't have any 15 years ago.

reply

No, it's that Battlestar Galactica's vision was never truly realised until he made his show.

Come on, you have to admit that the 1970s BSG is utter CRAP, especially Galactica '80!

reply

All Ron D Moore did was take a cheesy 70's family show about "likable" people trying to survive in space. And turn it into a show about a bunch of narcissistic assholes who should have died from there own incompetence. But instead turn into angles and shit. At least in the original the Cylons were a real threat. In this show there biggest enemy is there themselves. I watch this show until i realize i liked the concept, but not the asshole characters.

reply

Who are you, and why should I listen to you?

reply

No unrealistic, one-dimensional and stereotypical characters, how dare they!

theres the Bryan Singer connection...probably a version of what he was going to do - which I think was going to be more an update/re-imagination of the original 70s show maybe like a vague sequel than connected to the 00s remake which is completely done.. in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Kinberg wrote the Singer version previously and has now been bumped to producer and probably end up being director too due to Singer being blacklisted

reply

Jesus, direct a huge flop and they give you another franchise?

reply

I imagine he'll end up directing this too.. they'll just keep it under wraps for now as its too soon since Dark Phoenix

reply

I can't help but think of that episode of Star Trek, the Next Generation when they ran in to the colony of clones.

You make a copy of a copy too often and eventually it's going to degenerate. I feel like that's what's going to happen here.

reply

The 2004 series was one of my all time favorite sci-fi series to this day. Syfy provided an excellent series with a good closure. I don't see any reason not to give this reboot a chance. Hopefully, it will be half as decent.

reply

Good Closer??? didn't they turn into angles and ferries at the end. Do remember the end of Star Trek TNG were they all turned into Dinosaur and shit. Yeah that didn't happen, because the writers of there show weren't bunch asshole who ran out of ideas.

reply

angles and ferries, man. Awesome!
