I figure you never heard of Rita Moreno. Or Chita Rivera for that matter.

Performing arts did exist before the 1980s/1990s you know.

Longevity? LOL. Shakira has been at it less than Gloria, about equal to J-Lo.

Rita and Chita had careers spanning over 50 years.

Skakira IS very good and very talented, but , well, you read what I said here.

Rita and Chita were both singers and dancers too as well as actresses. Not to mention J Lo is an actress too (and singer/dancer)

Fair enough but I think Rita and Chita while they sang they didn't really have a musical career like Shakira or J-Lo for example which is why I think comparing them in that regard doesn't really works.

Your opinion is only an opinion and reality says otherwise, you are looking at their popularity based on a US view. They have both sold about the same number of albums, but then Shakira was pulled into performing at 3 different World Cups which are viewed by a lot more people than a Super Bowl. I think the biggest audience for a Super Bowl was back in 2015 which was about 111 million in the US and other 30 million outside the US... Compare that to any recent World Cup which gets an audience of a billion people. Now would the producers of the World Cup go after the least popular artist or the one that was more popular? They go for whoever is the most popular for their audience which has been Shakira time after time. She's probably much more recognizable across the globe than J-Lo... probably not in the US but then the US is less than 5% of the population of the planet.

Except J’Lo is also a big actress (and has been one for decades), and movies reach a larger audience than music and sports. As I said, Shakira is prettier and probably more talented. But if you talk just popularity, name recognition, box office appeal - J’Lo is a bigger name. Doesn’t mean better. Just bigger.

You keep falling into the same trap. J-lo has been in movies, okay.. how many of those movies got a huge international audience? None... So I don't care if every man, woman or child in the US was forced to watch Gigli, the total viewers would still be only a third of the people that watched Shakira during any of her 3 World Cup performances. J-lo is only a bigger name in the US... simply a fact.

None of her movies has an international audience? Not even Selena? It won a ton of accolades in Latin America-based award shows. Anaconda grossed $70 million internationally, and who knows how many more saw it on the small screen.

Selena wasn't release internationally, and if you were generous and said the average ticket price was only 5 bucks then your 70 million for Anaconda translates into only 140 million more people.. add that to the total population of the US and your still not even half way to the World Cup audience. You can keep swinging at the ball but you are just going to keep striking out.

You can pretend that the US defines who is popular in the world but it doesn't.

Yeah... one team has group of guys that can play non-stop, the other has a group that sets down on a bench or stands around patting another dudes butt more often than they actually play. Not really a fan of either sport but football is a joke and will be going the way of baseball in the future a game your grandpa used to watch.

Like I said, soccer ("football" outside America) is a bunch of men kicking a ball around the field, which gets dull after 10 minutes. It's fun to play though.

American football, on the other hand, is diverse, intricate, strategic and genuinely compelling (minus those guys with the yellow flags), not to mention you have to be a real badaxx to play it year after year.

And why put baseball down? It also is vastly more interesting than men kicking a ball around a field (sssnnnoooorrrreee).

Frankly I don't have an interest in any of them. If a sport doesn't involve a real risk of life and limb it isn't worth watching. I'll stick to motorcycle racing, boxing and sports where you risk more than sprained ankle.

You may prefer American Football to Football. That’s fair. Everyone has their preference.

But Football is more popular worldwide. Very few people outside of the U.S. care for American Football.

So, yes, performing in the World Cup is a bigger accomplishment than performing in the Super Bowl.
