Why hasn't he had a bigger career?

Inquiring minds want to know!

reply

Why not just look at his past output and put two and two together?

reply

I did, and still don't understand how some hacks made it bigger than him..

reply

don't know. not for lack of trying. for a while there he was all over the place. movie buiss is a crowded racket. think there was just too many big names scooping up the big roles ahead of him.

reply

He was great in Q&A as a Puerto Rican drug lord, as his performance in Gotti was great too.

Always thought he’d have been great for something like The Sopranos

reply

Indeed.

reply

amazing in judge dredd

reply

πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

reply

It says on his profile that he's "known as an Actor's Actor." This makes me want to check out his work. I know nothing about him.

reply

what does that mean?

reply

To be called "an Actor's Actor" means that he must be a heck of an actor.

reply

I don't know if it is the role he takes or his lack of skills but I'd say from what I have seen him in is that he has limited range. Or maybe people do not like to work with him.

reply

It could be that his IMDb profile was written by his agent or somebody else working for him, then.

reply

A character actor

reply

When he was young, he was one of the handsomest men walking. But he liked character roles. Maybe that's what did him in -- he wouldn't play the Hollywood game of being typecast as the pretty boy.

reply

IDK. I thought he was pretty decent in the few films of his I've watched. I've seen him in Judge Dredd, The Odyssey, Gotti, & American Gangster. He was solid in all but I thought Judge Dredd and The Odyssey were his stand outs.

reply

He probably simply had no interest to be an A lister. He acts as a job. Not for celebrity I would think.

reply

I remember him in "1492".

reply

Remember him in 80's mini "Evergreen." Played Jewish very well.

reply

It's the name Armand Ass-Ante ? Sounds like a gay strip poker player. ;-)

reply

Poor man’s Al Pacino, just like Ron Silver.

reply

Al Pacino should have been replaced by something long ago. His acting has gone way over the top, and his looks are scraping the bottom. Assante has his little niche, and occasionally he hits a good part. As someone said he is more of a character actor, and maybe his type cast of gangster type has not been good for him because he is actually a better actor than that.
