I hate that he's anti-Semitic.

I like the guy in movies, but I hate that being a fan of his means that I also have to acknowledge his Jew hate.

reply

I understand. I had the same thing with Kanye West, whose music I can no longer listen to.

At least with Gibson, because he's an actor, rather than a musician singing about his own life, I can separate the art from the artist so to speak. Film is a very collaborative affair, and actors are playing characters. Even a film like Braveheart, which is directed by Gibson, is still a collaboration, and one in which it's possible to disassociate the character, William Wallace, from Gibson's real-life shittiness.

That's harder to do with, say, Kanye West or R Kelly, or any solo musician who's said or done shitty things.

reply

Who knows how he really feels? People say all kinds of things when they're drunk.

reply

Don't they say that intoxication reveals your true personality?

reply

Some people say that, but alcohol shuts down the higher centers of your thinking, making people behave more like animals. I don't think people's animal instincts and thoughts are their true personality.

reply

When did this turn up?

reply

In 2011.

reply

That people actually take the bait on this one is funny.

reply

You think his anti-Semitism was bait? To what end? Or do you think he's being unfairly portrayed as an anti-Semite?

reply

Neither you nor I can claim with certainty if Mel Gibson is anti-semitic or not. He was drunk and said a lot of stupid things he has apologized for.

Was the expression of regret real? Who knows. it was a long time ago, and I for one think Mel is not a bad guy.

But, my point with the "bait" line is the way the original post was phrased.

reply

I think his drunken rant revealed some anti-Semitism.

But a lot of good people have a lot of strange views I don't agree with. I don't completely dismiss them over it.

I like Mel Gibson. I don't think liking an anti-Semite makes one an anti-Semite. That's where I disagree with the OP.

reply

He's been accused of it a few times in his career.

reply

I’m a huge fan but don’t like his current movies. Weak low budget drivel.

reply

I actually really liked Boss Level.

reply

He was only supporting there! It was ok.

reply

I suspect he's not getting hired for bigger gigs for a good reason... 🤐

If he'd behaved himself, he'd still be roughly on the same level of popularity that Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise are.

Then again, it's striking how many film stars of my youth have either died too young (e.g. Robin Williams), or fallen foul of controversy (e.g. Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, and even, to some degree, Jim Carrey). I guess Arnie and Harrison Ford are still liked for the most part, even if their careers have quietened down of late.

reply

Arnie had that incident where he said "To hell with your freedoms." That was in regard to the vaccine mandates that put people out of work. He also made that video at the beginning of the lockdowns while sitting in his jacuzzi smoking a stogie saying how everything was going to be alright. Of course, it was going to be alright for him he was a multimillionaire. Meanwhile people lost their jobs, their businesses, all of their money. It was a mess. Both of those things hurt him quite a bit.

reply

He got drunk and ranted about Jews. I'm against anti-Semitism. But honestly, it doesn't affect my opinion of him.

reply

There was rumours about his anti-Semitism during his Passion of Christ days.

reply

Yes, that's more great evidence. Gibson obviously believes the Jewish conspiracy theories.

I mean did the Jews kill Jesus? No, the Romans did. But it was Jews who saw Christ as a heretic who wanted him dead and they pressured the Romans.

Still, I see the logic of his position. I like Jewish people. But his anti-Semitism doesn't bother me.

reply

Mel Gibson is the man.

reply

Mel has SO much talent, both in front of the camera and behind it. You simply don’t see his level of talent in Hollywood much anymore.

Mel also has his demons, and he has come a long way in battling them. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was bi-polar. Yes, he said some awful things in anger. (Let he or she amongst us who HASN’T said some awful and hurtful things in anger—in order to push someone’s buttons—cast the first stone).

It’s not whether or not you sin. (Everyone sins to some degree). It’s about recognizing your sins, asking for forgiveness, and trying to do better. Mel has been doing the work, quietly and humbly.

He should NOT have been shunned by Hollywood for 15 years…and I hope LW5 reminds audiences of just how much screen presence and charm he has.

reply

Agreed. Apocalypto still blows my mind everytime I watch it.

reply

'So what' if he hates Jews?

Please show me this (unwritten) law that dictates that everyone has to like everyone?

Most sort of 'isms' nowadays usually revolve around people getting offended by the truth. Largely because it forces them to look at themselves.

If I say (for example) I dislike black people with 'slave mentalities', who always (conveniently) forget who sold their own into the very slavery they still bleat on about today...that's deemed as 'rascism'...purely because the truth offends those who think their shit don't stink. Yet no-one bats an eye-lid when the same blacks constantly try to re-write history to fit into their 'victim' narrative (and worse yet if you deny and/or question the Holocaust...and end up in prison?)

No race, creed or colour are exempt from past/present faults/attrocities...it's just that *some* (like the Jews or the blacks) get more of a free-pass for constantly bleating on about it.

Unfortunately, there's no 'go-to' buzzword/organizations/laws invented yet, to help/assist/ defend or protect pissed-off white people (who are officially sick to fucking death of being the scapegoat for other races having no personal responsibilities for their own actions, past and present)

Therefore all we can do is rant (and get cancelled) Hence Mr Gibson's predicament.

reply

There's a difference between hate and calling something out. I think circumcision is a barbaric practice, but I don't hate Jew because of it.

reply

No-one is calling for any physical harm upon them. But so what if you dislike them (or they feel disliked?)

As I said, there's usually some truth behind someone's offence (hence the reason it offends) but once we start censoring 'facts' over feelings...then we're fucked as a species (regardless of race, creed or colour)

If Mel said something inaccurate about Jews or blacks during his rants, then that's slander...but as of yet, he hasn't been cancelled for any inaccuracies...only offence and hurt feelings?

reply

If you were married and your spouse says they hate you and points out all of your faults, would you just think, "so what if my spouse hates me"?

reply

Not the best analogy amigo, because obviously, we'd not be married in the first place (or at very least, divorced, if she..or I suddenly felt that way)

Happens all the time all around the world. Even worse, some people actually continue to live with spouses that hate them.

reply

But if hating someone is not such a big deal, or in your case when you said "so what", what would be the big deal if the two of you stayed married?

reply

And as I previously said...Many people *do* stay together despite any (sometimes, mutual) grievances they may have for each other.

That doesn't necessarily make them (or their situation) right...and what truly horrible lives they must lead in order to continue such a facade?

reply

I think you make great points about there being good and bad in everyone. This is absolutely true. It's also true that we don't have to like everyone, it's our individual choice , as long as we don't go on public hate filled rants or cause fear or harm, etc.. However, I cannot agree when you say "it's just that *some* (like the Jews or the blacks) get more of a free-pass for constantly bleating on about it.

First, I don't understand what you mean about Jews getting a "free pass"(?) Second, according to ALL law enforcement throughout the country, anti-Semitism is number one in hate crimes. The amount of vandalism done to Jewish schools, places of worship and cemeteries throughout the country is astounding and Jews are being physically assaulted in New York and elsewhere. With the Holocaust occurring in the 20th century, with some of the survivors STILL ALIVE, and with the amount of anti-Semitism around, it's no wonder that Jews are "constantly bleating on about it." There is a definite fear of recurrence. It's important to remember - not to blame, but so that it NEVER EVER happens again.

PS - Regarding Holocaust "denial", aside from the obvious, why would an entire country (Germany) accept responsibility for the most heinous acts of violence ever and accept world condemnation? One really has to be not only anti-Semitic but also at the least willfully ignorant, at the most mentally ill, to try to "deny" this.

reply

By definition of the fact that there's 'anti-Semitic-laws' in place, that cover a wide range of any offence that Jewish people may take on the matter.

Please feel free to name me a 'similar' organization that prosecutes any and all anti-white sentiment (or at very least, give me the buzzword for what that daily act of constant blame/guilt-trippery is?)

'Black lives matter', despite doing zero for it's actual cause, is a recognized charity and/or buzzword (despite the fact that year-in, year-out, the biggest killers of blacks...are blacks)
Try saying 'White Lives Matter' and you'll be labelled 'racist'
So (with that aside) try saying 'All Lives Matter' and *STILL* get labelled 'racist'..primarily by those who preach for equality (but have been proven to actually want preferential treatment...on top of apologies from those who never actually owned slaves..that they, themselves have never actually been?

No members of the NOI (who constantly refer to whites as "The Devil" ) have ever been prosecuted (let alone persecuted) for their constant hatred of the white race.

And, do you know what?

White people are (by and large) OK with the constant hatred heaped upon them for centuries now...Because we don't (nor are ever allowed to) forget our past. We've hoipefuly learnt from it and pretty much created the very science/appliances/technology THE WORLD itself, uses (and takes for granted) today...but are (in the name of 'political correctness') only allowed to remember any historical wrong-doing...because even 'White Pride' is deemed 'racist' these days?

Even Winston Churchill (whose actions during WWII, arguably and inadvertently saved a lot of Jewish lives) is now (unbelievably) seen as a 'Racist' nowadays...and I don't any Jews campaigning to have that crazy notion cancelled...do you?

But as I said, it's OK. Because whites (believe it or not) are actually more concerned about the thickness of someone's skin (as opposed to it's colour) and (as such) are the most tolerent race...despite being the constant scapegoat for other (malcontent) races having zero personal responsibility for their own actions...

reply

I'm not going to comment much on BLM except to say that I feel and sympathize with your anger and frustration. I do not think you're wrong but that is not the issue I responded to you about.

My reply to you was strictly pertaining to anti-Semitism and Holocaust "denial". "By definition of the fact that there's 'anti-Semitic-laws' in place, that cover a wide range of any offence that Jewish people may take on the matter." Do you mean laws that protect Jews from hate crimes? I'm not sure I even understand what you mean by this statement, specifically "a wide range of any offence that Jewish people may take on the matter"??

reply

Which is why I brought up Churchill (who is now...in clown-world...deemed a racist, despite his mighty war-effort which likely saved millions of more Jews from extermination)

Do you think th( those poor unfortunates rounded up in death camps, would give a wet-fart about 'hurt-feelings' or 'mean-names'?
Which is why I abhor the term 'hate-crime' (as it's far too open-ended an expression...and generally makes a mockery of victims of genuine crime)

reply

The point you're missing is if people openly and constantly spew untruths about a religious or ethnic group, it becomes dangerous because a certain amount of the masses start to believe it, i.e. like what happened in Germany. This goes way beyond "hurt feelings".

Targeting Jewish temples, cemetaries and schools and physical assaults of obvious religious Jews ARE hate crimes.

reply

What exactly did Gibson say that was 'untrue'?

Also, state-funded groups like BLM would have their followers believe that the (evil) white man rounded them all up in darkest Africa (with Butterfly nets) whilst conveniently forgetting that they sold their own into slavery (and still practice such today)

Or that white Police are out to kill them, day-in-day-out (despite the fact that blacks kill each other at an alarming rate...only for these poor disenfranchised cherubs to then go on and blame 'poverty' and 'racism' rather than take responsibility for their own actions) which puts a target on an already stressed police department.

Please give me links to your moral outrage at these 'hate-crimes' (which far outweigh any abuse/untruths that Jewish people suffer) and sadly whites don't even have buzzwords (like 'anti-Semitism' to fall back onto, either)
Blame 'Whitey' all day long...with little or no recourse (in fact you're likely to be rewarded for blaming white people for your failings in life)

Down come the statues, churches, street-names changed, etc, etc...

Or are you only bothered about Jewish hate-crimes?...

reply

I never said it was Whites assaulting Jews in NY!! If you go to the NY Post FB page and search for Jewish or anti-Semitic hate your question will be answered. If you go to Stand With Us or any other reputable Jewish protection group (not ADL) your questions will be answered, everything is documented. This discussion was about anti-Semitism and you're going off about other issues and are actually accusing me of things without knowing me and sound quite nutty now. I'm going to excuse myself at this point.

Edited to post these and now I'm out:

I never brought up anyone (of any colour) assaulting Jewish people. I don't think Mel Gibson (or anyone else) ranting about Jews constitutes a 'hate crime' (which was the crux of my initial statement on the matter) Anyone assaulting another...is flat-out wrong (end of)

However, I did give examples of white people facing far more persecution (but lack the backing of the jewish-centred protection groups you mentioned)

My question still stands (however 'nutty' you may find it) Where's your outrage over the examples I cited?

You seem exclusively hung up on Jews (as if they're the only folk that have ever suffered persecution?)

reply

[deleted]

Damn. That's a frickin weird position.

"So what if he hates Jews?"

So what if he hates an entire group of people on account of their ethnicity or race?

Imagine how you'd feel if you were Jewish yourself, and you were bombarded with publicity for a new movie by a man who viscerally despises you simply for an identity you were born with.

No one is exempt from criticism on account of their race, creed or colour, but to attack an entire race of people and tar them with the same brush is the height of irrationality.

reply

So what if he hates jews (it's as simple as that)

He's not calling for their death (unlike other races who call for the death of others all the time...and who you likely give a free pass to?)

As for your movie analogy...See Jordan Peele (he gets a free-pass for spewing his dislikes/preferences...so why not Gibson?)

BTW, aren't you the self-hating white apologist, who gets all het up about Black actors proportionality (ironically, every time they commit crimes?) Is your wife's (live-in) boyfriend 'black' or something?
If so, please go troll somewhere else.

Thanks in advance.

You are going to be reported for your white supremacists views. You said you supported Mel Gibson's words and views.
