Phone troubles on MC?

I love this site, it’s all I do ‘online’ but goddam, the pop up ads have become an annoying distraction!

Some ads pop up and shrink the screen and sometimes the page willl drop me mid-post and I have to start over.

Anyone else having trouble with this?

reply

Yes, and I can tell you're using iOS. The same exact thing happens to me, and a few other people have mentioned this too. The ads that take over the screen are really bad and make the site practically unusable on my iPhone.

reply

We all need to take the hint and find sinewhere else to go.

reply

I hear you, but I like most of the people here. We were already scattered across the internet once, when IMDB split up, so I'm hopeful that Jim will take the initiative to optimize the site for better use on mobile phones and we can avoid something like that again.

reply

Nobody would care if you went ‘sinewhere’ else to go, but many of us love this site.

where?

reply

Very well said.

reply

Blimey! This is unlike you.

reply

Yeah, I’m on my IPhone which oddly didn’t work for months out of the blue some time ago.

It works fine on Google now.

reply

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm on Android using Firefox

reply

I generally use Safari but MC only works on Google now for me.

I don’t understand it either!

reply

What are these ads people have been speaking of the last few weeks? I haven't got one yet except for the usual ones on the bottom.

reply

Are you on android?

reply

Yes, sir.

reply

This seems to be limited to affecting iPhones.

reply

Every browser?

reply

AFAIK yes. I'll need to try out different browsers on my phone to make sure though.

reply

I’m an Apple guy, you are probably right.
The site is really cluttered and annoying on Apple but I suppose if this is my biggest worry in life I’ll get by somehow lol.

reply

Mozilla on iOS is a mess for some reason.

The DuckDuckGo Browser worked well though. I think that might be the way to go for iPhone users.

reply

DuckDuckGo is my main browser for moviechat. Somehow it handles it the best.

reply

On my iPhone they pop up midscreen on the right and block what you are reading or writing. Then sometimes it just reloads the page without notice.

reply

That sounds incredible annoying. I'd be copying all my text every few seconds in case it reloaded.

reply

Same here. It’s absolutely unbearable. If you try to post anything longer than 5-6 sentences, the site re-loads in the middle of you typing and your post is gone. Started happening to me about 90 days ago

reply

They have been really bad for me for weeks now.

reply

I just attempted to agree with you about dumping posts and my post got dumped.

Damn Bro, there is a bug in this system.

reply

I only use my kindle fire and my laptop and none of the problems happen with those things.

reply

I have the same issue. If you want to write anything that isn’t short you need to write it in short pieces and submit/re-edit or write in a text editor and cut n paste.

reply

I don’t understand how that could be Amigo. These tarts on other sites go on and on about their hair and makeup horseshit for pages and it posts, why the hell would MC malfunction like this?

reply

Apparently this problem only effects iPhones. You might try a different browser. I like Opera Browser because configured properly pop-ups should be mostly elimated. Plus it has many options and you can customize Opera just the way you like it. Might be worth a try.

reply

I just took your advice and it completely solved the problem. Thanks for the suggestion

reply

Cool! I'm glad I could help.

reply

I do have an ancient laptop that I had to use for several months because MC didn’t recognize my account on the phone for some reason.

Suddenly the iPhone started working again but it got bugs again.

Major upgrades are required here, my most favorite site on the whole goddam internet, but I don’t expect them…Jim is dead, RIP.

reply

Get a kindle fire, they're small, bigger screen then a phone, and you can do everything on them. I recently realized I could do my banking on it. I even have a 7 inch in my car for audiobooks.

reply

Jim let me know that the ads are not supposed to work that way and asked me to capture some screenshots of MovieChat on iPhone/IOS in order to show him the problem. I've done that, but I have a very old phone (iPhone 8) and wanted to check what others are using.

It would be helpful to know which version of iPhone and IOS you and VinceD and other are running.

reply

Hello Mod5,

I'm using an iPhone 12 with iOS 17.1.2

I noticed that some browsers performed better than others. The DuckDuckGo browser worked the best for me; I didn't encounter any issues with it. Opera seemed okay, but Mozilla and Safari both had numerous issues.

I hope that might be useful.

Cheers and Merry Christmas 🎅🎄

reply

It is very helpful, thanks. Merry Christmas to you as well.

reply

Same exact iPhone and iOS system for me and I too was using Safari when I was having the problems described in this thread
