i feel like this tends to happen with coronation street/soap stars
shareCan't disagree with that.
share💯
shareThey don't tend to be capable enough to go beyond that.
Or just aren't interested and find the gig comfortable
but why soap opera/ coronation street type show actors in particular?
because they tend to be long running and more stable guaranteed employment compared to one that may only run afew seasons?
>but why soap opera/ coronation street type show actors in particular?
Soap Operas aren't exactly known for high tier acting for the most part
>because they tend to be long running and more stable guaranteed employment compared to one that may only run afew seasons?
Pretty much
💯
shareGood idea for a thread!
Kit Harington's performance as Jon Snow was one of the best things about Game Of Thrones. He hasn't really done anything of great note besides that part. He starred in Pompeii but that was hardly a critical or financial home run.
that is another great example from GOT
shareFOR A LONG TIME I WONDERED WHERE THAT GUY CAME FROM...THEN I FOUND OUT...I DON'T ESPECIALLY LIKE HIM.
shareHe strikes me as very limited.
shareHE'S BORING LOOKING TOO.
shareThe thing is he fit the character from the novels so well. In the books Jon starts out as very immature, not sure of his place in the family and shaken by his station as 'The Stark Bastard', ambitious but uncertain yet still keen to learn. As the story progresses he becomes heroic, stoic, rarely complains and makes difficult choices all the while wrestling with doubts about his choices. He eventually rises to become a central figure in the intrigues and horrors North Of The Wall, the most important front in the entire war. I don't argue that the guy is amazingly blessed as an actor but this role fit his limited range like a glove.
Also, and I always found this charming about the guy, the various GOT actors were required to take sword lessons and he was considered amongst the very best in the cast, he really took this training seriously. I admire devotion and I won't be picking a blade fight wit Kit Harington anytime soon!
It's cool that he married that redhead from the show in real life.
shareEMMA WATSON WENT BACK TO SCHOOL AND HAS NEVER BEEN A COMMITTED ACTOR...EMILIA CLARKE IS A SOLID ACTOR WHO HAS DONE SOME GOOD MOVIES.
shareHands down, Anna Kavan in Dance Party, USA (2006).
shareOH WOW...THAT'S A REAL MOVIE...I JUST LOOKED IT UP.
shareOf course it's a real movie. Those are usually the type I tend to watch. ;-)

shareYes, Croc was cool, you are the only person who saw that other whatever the hell it was called.
'That's not a movie, now This is a movie!' lol.
DUDE...IT'S GOT HOGAN AS A BANK ROBBER WHO DISGUISES HIMSELF AS CELEBRITIES...LINDA KOZLOWSKI JUST LIKE DUNDEE...PLUS...CASEY FUCKING JONES!!!...ELIAS KOTEAS IS THE MAN.

Paul Hogan was a big TV star in Australia before Croc Dundee but yep he never managed to succeed with another film.
shareLIGHTENING JACK WAS PRETTY GOOD TOO.
shareI've heard he was pretty big over in The Land Of Aussie but we mostly know him from Dundee, tourism ads and some Foster's Beer commercials here in The States.
I've been informed that Foster's isn't even that well respected in Australia.
Anyway, very entertaining guy and good for him.
its worse than that (re fosters) they go on a tirade everytime its mentioned , or they catch sight of it .
I think of the 70's when I see the Foster's label. I have never heard anyone go on a tirade about it as such but I think it is one of those stereotypes that make people's eyes roll. Like Italians only eat pasta and Americans all ride horses and own guns etc.
It's not a popular drink here.
Yeah he had the Paul Hogan show with his side kick "Strop" who was also his manager and the brains behind everything. It was kind of like an Aussie Benny Hill show.
Fosters isn't very popular here. Been ages since I have been in a pub but you don't see the logo very often here.
I like Fosters, it's not a super popular beer here in The States but I like it well enough.
We call it an 'oil can' here because it's available in 24 oz servings.
It's only about 5% alcohol but good enough and tastes fine.
