What's so great about TikTok?
It's just a bunch of people in pajamas who never leave the house, dancing to other people's songs.

shareAbsolutely nothing. It's one of the biggest scourges to our society by enabling the spread of stupidity. See my other thread about the chicken cooked in NyQuil cold medication.
The site should be shut down.
NOTHING...UNFORTUNATELY IT HAS CAUGHT ON WITH THE COOL AND THE YOUNG.
shareThe same greatness as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (a.k.a. nothing.)
shareSeconded.
shareOh, and MySpace and Friendster too lol.
shareAbsolutely, all of it! The closest I come to 'social media' (even the term bugs me!) is LinkedIn.
shareWHAT IS LINKEDIN?
shareLinkedIn is an American business and employment-oriented online service that operates via websites and mobile apps. Launched on May 5, 2003, the platform is primarily used for professional networking and career development, and allows job seekers to post their CVs and employers to post jobs.
Members can invite anyone (whether an existing member or not) to become a connection. LinkedIn can also be used to organize offline events, join groups, write articles, publish job postings, post photos and videos, and more.
And Movie Chat. 🤷♀️🤷♀️
shareI don't use it but have something of an understanding of it's mechanisms.
It's just the latest social media fad for teens. You've had myspace, bebo, facebook, twitter, vine, instagram and now tiktok...there will be another soon. They gravitate to the latest craze, especially when older users flock to their older turf, they lose the cool factor. It's cool being on FB with your pals, but when your mom, dad and grandparents add you and see what you're up to it's time to branch out.
It's like a sugar rush. Short videos designed to be stimulating to your senses, slick moves co-ordinated to groovy music, quite addicting for some people. Similar to vine back a few years ago. Supposedly young folks spend hours scrolling through 5 second - 1 minute long video after video. The interface is smooth and transitional, a simple swipe of the finger takes you to your next short video. After a while it adapts to your taste and the videos you get are tailored to your likes and interests.
Youtube has introduced the new 'YT shorts' to try compete. People love short bursts of entertainment. It's basically gifs with music. I guess some would discuss lowered attention spans of younger folks who've grew up in the internet age.
YT has went this way too. Years back it was a somewhat decent platform (due to it's simplicity) but now it's rampant with 'personalities', exaggerated thumbnails, clickbait titles and so on. All trying to game the system, making longer videos to purposely contain more ads to earn more money. It's userbase is overrun with kids in need of instant stimulation.
That's the way media is trending. Simple, instant gratification.
That's an accurate description... basically it's for people with the attention span of a two-year-old who must have constant sensory stimulation. It's contributing to the dumbing-down of our society by enabling the spread of stupidity, like the chicken and NyQuil "challenge" that is downright dangerous.
shareFor me, it's funny and interesting videos. I get videos of karens, of police encounters, of cute dogs. Just fun while I take a dump.
shareWELL...YOU ARE AN IDIOT...SO...
shareHe has to have a distraction to forget how much his hemorrhoids hurt while on the porcelain throne.
shareTHAT'S FAIR.
shareSsshh... he meant videos of little boys. Preferrably struggling and/or stutter.

To me, nothing. I follow several people and organizations on Instagram, and occasionally one might post a video from their their Tik Tok account on Instagram. There is a world of difference. An Instagram video can have informative, serious content (as well as fun stuff).Tik Tok is just very brief cutesy-pie stuff.
shareTiktok saved my sanity in lockdown.
It's not all like that. It's very similar to YouTube but just short videos. Up to 5 mins I think it is now.
Whatever your interests, there's a section about it. I never get dancing videos when I'm scrolling. I watch camping, cats, true crime, renovations, cooking etc.
Once the algorithm knows what you like, then that's all you see.
I loved those guys, I really thought they were robots back in the 80's!
