Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola

I don't drink soda that much, so I don't have a strong opinion at all about this competition. But I am fascinated by the history of this soda war, and I have several family and acquaintances that are semi-addicted to these caffeinated drinks

So pepsi or coke, and why?

reply

The primary difference is that Pepsi has more sugar to appeal to children. Coca-Cola has less sugar and more cola flavor.

Yeah, I rarely drink it either.

I do wish they'd reintroduce the version with cocaine though. 🤣

reply

What makes you think they secretly haven’t😈?

reply

Haha!
That might be a terrible idea😄

Half of these people can’t drive already lol

reply

I've always like Pepsi for the sweeter taste. However... years ago there was a "Pepsi Challenge" taste-test promotion at a mall and I ended up choosing Coke ...(!) Go figure.

reply

Interesting. I have often wondered what these taste tests are like. Since both brands hosted them Ive always imagined that it would be very awkward when someone picked the competitor

And I think I have only drank Pepsi a handful of times in my life. Coke, probably hundreds of times and that's considering that I have only scarcely drank soda for the past 10 years. I feel as though I should be able to instantly tell Coke apart from Pepsi, but since I have never attempted the challenge I could very well be wrong

reply

They gave you two small unlabeled paper cups and asked you to pick the one you liked best. This was set up outside in the parking lot of a mall, so maybe the weather had an effect on my taste buds, I don't know.

reply

I took a marketing class in college and the professor showed that in a blind taste test people couldn’t even tell the difference between Coke and Sprite. It was pretty hard to believe.

reply

That is a shocker. I guarantee I could identify Coke vs Pepsi blindfolded.

Unless maybe if you put "New Coke" side-by-side with Pepsi. Remember New Coke? It tasted very similar to Pepsi LOL.

reply

That is quite fascinating

reply

Pepsi. It always tasted waaaay better to me.

With that being said, I don't drink regular soda anymore and haven't for many, many years. I only drink diet sodas and seltzers. I think diet Pepsi tastes much, MUCH better than diet Coke (which I will occasionally buy once in a blue moon when it's on sale). But unlike a lot of other soda flavors' diet counterparts, neither Diet Pepsi nor Diet Coke tastes anything like their regular versions. Then they finally made a diet Coke version that tasted like regular Coke, which was Coke Zero. But for some insane reason, they fucked with it and now it doesn't taste like regular Coke anymore. And Pepsi finally made a diet Pepsi version that tasted like regular Pepsi, which was Pepsi One. I rejoiced at finally being able to have regular Pepsi taste in a diet version!!!! Then what do the fuckers do?? They discontinued it!!!! I don't know what the fuck is wrong with these soda companies. They both finally had diet versions that tasted like their regular versions, only to go and totally fuck it up. 😒😒😒😒

"Then they finally made a diet Coke version that tasted like regular Coke, which was Coke Zero. But for some insane reason, they fucked with it and now it doesn't taste like regular Coke anymore."

Really? I had not noticed that.

reply

So it still tastes like regular Coke to you?

Like I had said, I'm a Pepsi drinker so I only buy Coke once in a blue moon. I was very impressed with it when it first came out. You can tell it was finally trying to mimic the taste of regular Coke. I had only bought it a handful of times since then. So it had been quite awhile since the last time I bought it. I noticed immediately that it tasted way different. It tasted like they mixed it with TaB. It was horrible. Then I looked at the can and sure enough, it said "Now more delicious" and "New taste". This was last year sometime.

reply

I haven't noticed any difference. But you're right: https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2021/09/08/coke-zero-new-formula-taste/

reply

It's crazy how different people's tastes are. The people in this article barely tasted a difference. I tasted a huge difference. Probably because I wasn't a regular drinker of it so that might have made the change that much more pronounced for me. I thought it was horrible. But the first few years I thought it tasted very close to regular Coke, which I'm not even a big fan of to begin with.

reply

This may be off-topic but I only buy diet cola (not that it’s necessarily healthier) and I really can’t tell the difference between them.
The best diet soda is Dr. Pepper though it’s technically not a cola.

I generally only get sodas for drink-mixing.

reply

There is no off topic here. Think of this thread as a playground. And the jungle gym is made of cola

reply

Ah, you’re a good sport, we need more like you here, the trolls are trying to ruin the good vibes👍

reply

No problem. I try to take it easy

reply

Stay on topic or be Ignored (I think that’s the standard troll response, right?).

reply

I deserved this reply😄

reply

Ignored.

reply

Pepsi is definitely the better product. To me at least Coke has a bitter aftertaste.

reply

Even regular Coke? To me, all diet soft drinks have an odd aftertaste.

reply

I like both, but prefer Coke as it taste way better and has a cooler logo.

reply

The best beverage either side produces is Pespi Max. Truly the best carbonated cola on the market now and it's sugar free somehow!

reply

When dads shop: comes home with Shasta. "Look, I saved a penny."

reply

LOL! But Shasta also had Black Cherry Flavor.
