Comparing MovieChat to filmboards, the movie boards.

"Body Heat" on filmboards, not a single original thread in 5 years:

https://filmboards.com/board/10082089/

"Body Heat" on MovieChat, consistently active with over 20 new threads in the past year alone:

https://moviechat.org/tt0082089/Body-Heat?page=1

By comparison, filmboards is nothing but trolls and spammers on its busy GD. MovieChat is the only forum making real use of the IMDb legacy boards.

I was frankly astonished by the comparison.

I was on Imdb2 for a while but it's a real troll haven. Same with rotten tomatos.

I like this site for the individual movie boards some even imported from IMDb.

reply

That’s great Mustang. Glad your here.

reply

Thanks!

reply

I was on that imdb2 as well and then they banned tons of people for no reason and then took it back… just weird. Is it still alive?

reply

I joined imdb2 soon after IMDB closed its boards. From the start it was a bit of a mess. Most people seemed to want to.talk politics rather than movies and tv. I left a while vack. Not surprised they had a mass purge but they probably purged the wrong folks and kept the trolls.

reply

They banned me for no reason…. It was crappy and disorganized anyways. 😝 I was just happy to find somewhere to go but once I found this site I liked it much better.

reply

All the old boards from IMDb were imported here after The Fall.

But my point is that while filmboards has the same individual movie and actor boards, they are dead. On MovieChat they are active! filmboards has degenerated into a sock troll site.

reply

I checked out film boards but I don't think I joined. As you say it seems dead.

reply

We have a single troll here. But he has like 5 personas.

reply

Moviebuffoon/Intotheshite/Pressplay/Ticketsplease/OhJason/Cunny69

reply

You forgot the sneaky Milsey who trolls just softly enough to escape troll police.

reply

His college professor told him to be subdued.

reply

I never met the Milsey troll

I’m lucky like that

reply

THAT IS A PLOT HOLE.

reply

No, I honestly don’t think I have met Milsey which is weird because I seem to chat with everyone except for a couple of dickheads

reply

I’ve not yet had the displeasure.

reply

"Moviebuffoon/Intotheshite/Pressplay/Ticketsplease/OhJason/Cunny69"

dont forget new sock-on-the-block: Silverscreen81

reply

Oh good grief - I need to create a spreadsheet.

reply

No, we have another one who has like 500 sock puppet accounts.

reply

I also suspect we have a weirdo here that wears dozens of socks…I don’t suspect any of our long term Regs, they are all solid, even the couple I don’t much care for are above suspicion, they are just jerks, they are not Trolls

It will likely be a poster that turns up every now and then but is largely unnoticed, blends into the crowd, white male, semi- professional, aged 30-40, seems a bit boring on the surface, probably married and drives an average commuter car and has a tool shed and a smallish dog because his profile suggests he likes to be in charge…This is what the FBI has given us to work with

reply

Too many emoji.
I prefer moviechat.

reply

Emoji are your only reason?

reply

😲

reply

I believe that less is more.
Love the simplicity of the forum here. More content oriented than filmboards.
Even the emoji much more nicer here.

reply

I was the Admin on filmboards for 4 years. So I never posted here until a few months ago after I left FB.

I must say MovieChat is far superior to FB. There is zero film discussion on FB though they have all the same IMDb board as here. But no one there bothers to use them. It's a gang of trolls.

My only criticism of MovieChat is we need to be able to embed YouTube videos.

And since the founder, Mr Parsons has disappeared, we need someone at the top to help grow the forum. There's so much great potential here. What do you think? Do the mods here have the ability to make any necessary changes? I'm still trying to fathom the power structure here.

reply

this is no "power" structure.

reply

We need one. For example, embedded videos would be nice. Who does that?

Think growth.

reply

I am not fan of embedded videos at all.
But I think we need to do something with the editing, we don't know if someone edit is post or not.

reply

Overall there needs to be a "go to" when issues arise. Do any of the mods here have the authority to rewrite code?

I love this site and I think it can go places, but not as a headless chicken.

reply

One major problem is how a thread gets narrower which each subsequent reply. Given enough replies to your original comment this thread will get so narrow you'll eventually have comments where the words/sentences are vertical. Doesn't matter whether you're using your phone or PC. Very frustrating, That needs to be fixed as a matter of urgency.

reply

Yes, and these are the types of issues which need to be addressed.

A lot of work went into MovieChat, but it needs a CEO. It can be a flourishing site, even take advertizing one day. filmboards is no match for it. But they have an Admin. MovieChat doesn't.

Every ship needs a captain and I'd hate to see MovieChat fail for lack of direction.

reply

we are in need of new ceo for sure.

reply

Hownos, we need to figure a way to make it happen.

reply

we have tried.

reply

Odd situation. I've been on forums where the founder has to leave for some reason and he hands ownership over to someone else.

Are the mods able to do everything which needs to be done? Do they have ultimate authority?

reply

send jim a pm

reply

👌

reply

QUIT PM'ING ME,DICKHEAD.🙂

reply

That's what I suspected. Jim has been here all along posing as one of us. What a scamp!
