Remember the Twinkies Panic of 2011? The Hostess Company had shut down but was soon revived under the same name but with different owners.
Hostess products were at one time one of my favorites. The new products are definitely inferior and smaller in size. Hostess CupCakes are now dry and topped with a thin, brittle layer of frosting that shatters when you bite into it. The frosting used to be thicker and was more moist and creamy. I stopped buying Hostess snacks after this.
Dolly Madison Zingers were another one of my favorites that took a downturn. I found out the reason: the same company that revived the Hostess name took over Dolly Madison in 2013. Another brand to cross off my list.
True bakeries seem to be disappearing, too, and are being replaced with the in-store bakery departments found at the supermarket chains. These products are pre-mixed somewhere else, sent to the individual stores to be baked or reheated, then are touted as being "made fresh daily." The difference in taste and quality is obvious. Did they truly believe customers wouldn't notice?
Yet people continue to purchase these inferior items.
